History:
(Darkhold: Pages from the Book of Sins#3 (fb) - BTS) - Aurora Poule was
a poor young woman from Perfection, South Carolina. She was at one point
abused by popular senior student Billy Jack. When she told the
authorities what had happened, but nobody believed her. Considered a
liar by most people in town and a harlot that tried to besmear the name
of a good southern boy, Aurora completely withdrew and stopped leaving
her home for months and had a shotgun always close by in case someone
else would try to hurt her. Wally remained friends with her and knew how
bad she doing after everything that had went down.
(Darkhold: Pages from the Book of Sins#3) - One night the Darkhold Dwarf visited Aurora Poule in her home near the quarry in the outskirts of Perfection, South Carolina and gave her a page from the Darkhold. She explained that she couldn't read, but he assured her that she could in this case and should just say what she felt. Influenced by the magic of the page, Aurora inadvertently said the right words to summon the Other, who rose from the page as a translucent woman in a beautiful dress. Aurora liked the dress and believed the Other to be an angel because it offered her relief after all the terrible things that she had gone through. The Other offered her either the dress or revenge on those that had wronged Aurora. Because she wanted to be beautiful and liked by everyone Aurora chose the dress. Moments later Aurora was wearing a beautiful dress and looked gorgeous. She immediately went for her shotgun when someone else entered the room, but it was only her good friend Wally. He was surprised to see Aurora in a beautiful dress because she was poor and could hardly afford a decent meal, but Aurora told him that an angel gave it to her though she was unable to show the angel to Wally because it had disappeared. Wally thought she had gone crazy, which saddened Aurora because she didn't want Wally to believe that she was a liar like everyone else in town already did. Wally then asked her if she wanted to volunteer at the Halloween party at the school gym after not leaving her house for months since the attack on her and she took the offer. She took a few dollars she had saved and went to town to buy perfume. On her way through town she hoped everyone saw how beautiful she was, but people started making fun of her at the perfume shop. She ran away and encountered Billy Jack, one of her previous attackers and a popular senior, who thought she should have been more grateful to him and didn't like it that she tried to ruin his name. Billy Jack and his friends cornered her in a dark alley and forced themselves on her once again.
Aurora ran through the street with her torn dress and begged for helped, but nobody believed her one again. Sheriff Keane told her not to smear the name of a good boy like Billy Jack again because it didn't work the last time either. He threatened to have her arrested for stealing the dress. Aurora ran back home and the Other was back and this time Aurora chose revenge.
(Darkhold: Pages from the Book of Sins#4 (fb) - BTS) - Aurora built a small pile of rocks like the Other told her to and it became a portal for the N'Garai to enter Earth.
(Darkhold: Pages from the Book of Sins#3 - BTS) - One of the N'Garai emerged from Aurora's shack and then attacked the sheriff's office where it killed everyone but one woman, who was hiding in a closet.
Victoria Montesi, Sam Buchanan and Louise Hastings tracked down a Darkhold page to Aurora's home, but Aurora wasn't home. They decided to split up to see if everything was okay in town. Buchanan went to the sheriff's office where he found a bloodbath. The only survivor told him that something coming from Aurora's shack was responsible. Buchanan tried to save Louise Hastings from an attacking N'Garai, but it was killed by Sabretooth instead. Meanwhile Victoria Montesi was at the school and encountered a horde of N'Garai in the school's basement.
(Darkhold: Pages from the Book of Sins#4 - BTS) - The N'Garai attacked Perfection, South Carolina. Louise was sure Aurora didn't know what she was doing when she used the Darkhold page.
(Darkhold: Pages from the Book of Sins#4) - Aurora awakened in the woods when Wally called out for her upon finding her. He told her about the monsters attacking the town and that they had to get out of there. Aurora was shocked that the magic she had used had caused this. She witnessed Billy Jack and Wally both get killed by N'Garai when Wally tried to save Billy Jack from them. She was shocked that her only friend had been killed as well while trying to tell her to get to safety.
(Darkhold: Pages from the Book of Sins#4 - BTS) - The school was attacked by the N'Garai, but Sabretooth and the Darkhold Redeemers saved the children at the Halloween party and barely escaped in a bus to the National Guard Armory. With the children save inside the armory, the Darkhold Redeemers and Sabretooth went out looking for the cairn the N'Garai used as their portal to Perfection.
(Darkhold: Pages from the Book of Sins#4) - Aurora returned to the quarry and was shocked how the small pile of rocks had grown into a stone tower. Modred confronted her and revealed to Aurora that she had not only brought the N'Garai to Earth, but also increased their ranks with her unborn child, which devastated her.
The Darkhold Redeemers and Sabretooth fought through the ranks of N'Garai to reach the cairn as well and Louise Hastings asked Modred to destroy the cairn while Aurora was standing in front of it. Modred had no intention to destroy but instead wanted to use it to reach Chthon. He used a local woman to test if humans could pass through the portal and she was incinerated, which made it clear that the cairn was not an option to get to Chthon. Louise Hastings had a grenade belt strapped around her body and was ready to climb the cairn and destroy it herself when Aurora offered to do it instead to make up for causing this whole disaster. Aurora climbed the cairn with the grenade belt and upon reaching the top pulled one of the pins and jumped down to the portal. The grenades detonated and the cairn was blown to pieces with Aurora in the center of the explosion.
Comments: Created by Chris Cooper, Tony Harris & Jimmy Palmiotti.
The Darkhold title was different because Chris Cooper liked to tackle topics that were risky. I wonder what he could've done with the book if it had survived getting sidetracked by crossovers.
