History:
(Love Romances I#96) - Miss Parker left her hometown of Centerville, Ohio to start a new life in Manhattan. Unused to life in the big city, she found herself intimidated almost immediately. While walking down a street she saw a man smile at her, then he began to follow her. When the man tried a pick-up line on her, Parker fled to a taxi as quickly as she could, uncertain how to respond.
Miss Parker took a job as a secretary at J. C. Brown and Company. She noticed there were a lot of handsome men at the company but they all seemed to be married. One of the rare single men was Lou Stiles and Miss Parker grew interested in him but one day when he asked where she was from, he congratulated her on her "escape from the sticks." Offended at his rudeness, Parker told off Lou and stopped socializing with him.
Miss Parker started taking art classes taught by Mr. Nelson but when he told her that while he thought she was attractive her art was "ridiculous scribbling," Parker fled the studio and cancelled her classes.
Miss Parker's roommate May invited her to a party that promised to be attended by men from advertising agencies and television studios. Parker was excited to be at the party, thinking she could finally join the New York social scene and discover romance but after listening to the men at the party talk about their own jobs, the stock market and sports she realized she didn't want to be party of their social scene and left the party early.
Disappointed with life in New York, Miss Parker took a train home to Centerville, believing her entire experience had ended in failure. However, on the train ride home she met a man who was being sent to Centerville to manage his company's branch office. The two soon struck up a conversation and he invited her to dinner in the dining car. Parker realized she'd finally found her man.
