History:

(Nightmask I#2) - On August 17, 1986, soon after the Ballad Clinic of Dream Research was opened, Oakley was hired as the building's night manager. Oakley looked in on their patient Dr. Henry Salinger to find he had gone missing. Oakley alerted Dr. Lucian Ballad and Keith Remsen, who narrowly prevented Dr. Salinger from killing himself.

(Nightmask I#6) - On February 20, 1987, Oakley joined a game of touch football played between the Ballad Clinic and staff of the County General hospital. Calling themselves "Ballad's Raiders," Oakley played alongside Keith Remsen and Lita Mercado and won the game. The staff from County General asked for a rematch the following week while the Ballad Clinic staff went out to celebrate with pizza. When the Ballad Clinic staff returned to the clinic, they found Joe Greyfox waiting outside the building. Greyfox asked if Oakley were in charge of the clinic but Oakley deferred to Dr. Ballad, who took on the case of Greyfox's father Charlie, only for Joe's brother David to counter his wishes.

The following day, Keith's sister Teddy left the Ballad Clinic to try and aid Charlie Greyfox on her own. When Keith noticed she was missing, Oakley suggested she had gone to a movie but Keith doubted it.
