History:

(Squadron Sinister I#2 (fb) - BTS) - The Nutopians occupied a province on Battleworld called Nutopia which bordered Utopolis, which was controlled by the Squadron Sinister, a team of superbeings who were ruthless about annexing their neighboring provinces.

(Squadron Sinister I#1 (fb) - BTS) - At some point, the Nutopians sent Warrior Woman to infiltrate the Squadron Sinister and provide them with intelligence on the team's activities.

(Squadron Sinister I#1) - Jack Magniconte, Jennifer Swensen and Kenneth Connell entered Supremia Province, where the Squadron Sinister had just eliminated the provinces's local superbeings. Jack noted they'd conquered 8 provinces within 6 weeks. Jennifer had assumed Supremia's own version of Hyperion would have lasted longer against the Squadron Sinister; she calculated there was an 88.6% likelihood the Squadron would attempt to annex Nutopia within the next 10 days, suggesting they would have to advance their timetable. Later, Mark Hazzard entered Utopolis to meet with Warrior Woman.

(Squadron Sinister I#2) - Warrior Woman reported back to Mark Hazzard that Hyperion knew he had a traitor within his ranks but Hazzard believed none of the Squadron would see their attack coming - unaware Nighthawk was eavesdropping on them.

In Nutopia Province, Mark, Jennifer, Kenneth and Jack conversed on the Squadron's plans, which included an invasion of Europix province. Jennifer advised Kenneth to start sharing his Star Brand with more citizens of Nutopia, granting dozens of them access to the Star Brand's infinite power source.

(Squadron Sinister I#3) - Warrior Woman went to Nutopia province to meet with her allies; there were now more than a hundred people sharing the Star Brand's power. That night, the Nutopians invaded Utopolis and fought the Squadron Sinister. Jack and Mark attacked Nighthawk together; Nighthawk snapped Jack's neck. Mark shot Nighthawk with his pistol and believed he'd killed him, but Nighthawk proved to be wearing body armor, revived and stabbed Mark through the chest with a sword. Spitfire punched Hyperion but he flew into orbit with her thenoverpowered her and crushed her helmet, decapitating her. Ken Connell attacked Hyperion next but Hyperion overpowered and killed him too. Meanwhile, Warrior Woman had the Star Brand wielder Jacob Burnsley punch her to make it appear she'd been beaten in combat. Jacob and the other surviving Star Brand wielders retreated to Nutopia.

(Squadron Sinister I#4) - Sandman from Wittland province came to Nutopia and informed Jacob Burnsley that Nighthawk was making a move against Hyperion and there was no better time for the Nutopians to liberate Utopolis from Hyperion's control. Nighthawk ultimately slew Hyperion just before Burnsley and the other Star Brand wielders arrived with Sandman. Burnsley attacked Nighthawk but the fight was ended by the arrival of the Thor Corps, who enforced the laws of Dr. Doom on Battleworld. The Thor Corps arrrested Nighthawk and brought him to Doom for judgment. Burnsley told the citizens of Utopolis they didn't have to worry about the Squadron Sinister anymore and started to claim Utopolis on behalf of Nutopia but the citizens rioted and told them to leave Utopolis, saying they always knew where they stood with the Squadron but didn't know if they could trust the Nutopians.

"Burnsley" might be a typo but then again, since this was set on an alternate Earth, it can simply be the surname for this version of Jacob.

Note the costume worn by Star Brand wielders in this series is like the one Ken Connell wore when he became a costumed super hero in John Byrne's Star Brand stories, but with red in place of white and the Star Brand insignia off-center.

Hyperion was seriously OP in this series; normally just one person with the Star Brand should be at least a match for him, yet an army of Star Brand wielders meant just about nothing to him. But heck, average-strength Nighthawk snapping bulletproof Jack Magniconte's neck likewise seems highly unlikely.

CLARIFICATIONS:
The Nutopians should not be confused with:

JACOB BURNSLEY

Jacob Burnsley was Battleworld's counterpart to Earth-148611's Jacob Burnley. Like his 148611 self, Jacob came to possess the Star Brand, which granted him superhuman strength, near-invulnerability, flight and the ability to emit destructive energy blasts. Jacob was one of the hundreds of Nutopia residents given the Star Brand by Ken Connell to assist them in their assault on Utopolis. When most of their leadership was destroyed, Burnsley knocked out Warrior Woman to help cover up her assistance to their movement. Later, Sandman alerted Burnsley to Nighthawk's attack on Hyperion; Burnsley returned to Utopolis with Sandman and several other Star Brand wielders to find Nighthawk had already killed Hyperion. Burnsley attacked Nighthawk but their fight ended when the Thor Corps arrested Nighthawk. Burnsley attempted to annex Utopolis for Nutopia but the citizens of Utopolis refused to follow him.

MARK HAZZARD

Mark Hazzard was Battleworld's counterpart to his Earth-148611's self. Like his 148611 self, he was a mercenary with extensive combat training and access to firearms. Mark Hazzard was the leader of Nutopia's resistance against Utopolis and was responsible for planting Warrior Woman in the Squadron Sinister as their spy. When Hazzard led the Nutopians in an attack on Utopolis he and Jack Magniconte fought Nighthawk. Mark shot Nighthawk but didn't realize Nighthawk was wearing body armor; Nighthawk revived and stabbed Mark with a sword, killing him.

JACK MAGNICONTE

Jack Magniconte was Battleworld's counterpart to his Earth-148611's self. Like his 148611 counterpart, Jack had superhuman strength and bulletproof skin and belonged to a group called Kickers, Inc. Jack and Mark Hazzard fought Nighthawk together but Nighthawk caught Jack in a hold then snapped his neck.

SPITFIRE

Dr. Jennifer "Jenny" Swensen was Battleworld's counterpart to her Earth-148611's self. Like her 148611 self, she owned a suit of red M.A.X. Armor which granted her flight and superhuman strength. She had a keen mind for mathematics, seemingly able to calculate the odds of the Squadron Sinister annexing Nutopia. Jenny convinced Ken Connell to share his Star Brand with other Nutopia residents, giving them an army of Star Brand wielders to resist the Squadron Sinister. Spitfire joined the Star Brand wielders in their attack on Utopolis; she fought Hyperion but he overpowered her, dragged her into Earth's orbit and crushed the armor's helmet, decapitating her.

STAR BRAND

Kenneth "Ken" Connell was Battleworld's counterpart to his Earth-148611's self. Like his 148611 self, Ken wielded the Star Brand, which rendered him nearly indestructible and granted him powers of flight, superhuman strength and destructive energy flares. Jennifer Swensen convinced Ken to share his Star Brand with other residents of Nutopia, giving them an army of Star Brand wielders. In the Nutopian's assault on Utopolis, Ken saw Hyperion kill Swensen; Ken attacked Hyperion, attempting to kill him, but Hyperion overwhelmed him and incinerated Ken with his eye beams.
