Powers/Abilities: A powerful sorcerer, Narros apparently survived his physical death, existing in skeletal form.

    He can project mystical blasts/spells for which there was no defense in the time in which he lived, although in more modern times, defenses did exist.

    He commands or commanded multiple skeletal warriors, and he could summon giant skull-headed serpents (at least four) to do his bidding.

    He could sense beings approaching even outside of his field of vision, and he can generate force to project someone away from him.

    It is unrevealed what level of injury might terminate his existence, but a giant serpent head falling on top of him at least immobilized him long enough for his foes to escape.

History:
(Ptolus: City by the Spire#3 (fb) - BTS) - Presumably living an unrevealed but long period of time ago, Narros presumably died unrevealed circumstances, and his corpse was placed in the crypt beneath the city of Ptolus, "the Crypt of Narros." He apparently sat on his throne, and his corpse decayed into a skeleton, but he retained sentience, mobility and mystic power.

(Ptolus: City by the Spire#3 - BTS) - Seeking to recover the Book of Whispering Souls to restore the ghost/spirit of her friend and ally Parnell, retired treasure-hunter and sword-for-hire Sheva Callister led her allies, the elf Daersidian Ringshire and the dwarf Brusselt Airmol, into the crypts beneath Ptolus to gain access the meeting place of the book's owner, Kevris Killraven, and her ally Gatara Vladaam.

    Briefly traveling through the sewers, Sheva used her mystic Hungersword to cleave the chains sealing the door to access the Crypt of Narros. After they entered the crypt, they were assaulted by a massive crypt worm, which fed off death and decay, which the trio engaged before Sheva decapitated it with the Hungersword.

    Sheva subsequently stepped onto a trap slab, which caused multiple mystic blasts to project through the room until Daersidian magically teleported them into the next chamber.

    As skeleton warriors charged them, Daersidian and Sheva fought them off while Brusselt accessed the next sealed chamber. Thereafter, they fought off and finally destroyed the last of their pursuers...

(Ptolus: City by the Spire#3) - ...after which they entered the chambers of Narros, who told them that they had defiled the final resting place of Narros of the Seven Souls and that the price for such audacity was nothing less than death..."...but no quiet death. You shall spend eternity as my undead slaves!"

(Ptolus: City by the Spire#4) - Fearful of the undead, Brusselt attempted to explain to Narros that they were just passing through and did not mean to disturb him. Nonetheless, the furious Narros told them (perhaps specifically referring to Brusselt) that they were not worthy to be in his presence, let alone to address him.

    Raising his left hand and generating a powerful magical glow, Narros told them that they would now pay for their transgression. As Narros roared in triumph, four giant magical serpents burst through the floor to attack them.

    Sheva used the Hungersword to decapitate one of the serpents while Daersidian used a giant magical fist to contain another. Brusselt charged Narros from behind with both daggers drawn, but Narros did not have to even turn his head to sense his presence and generate a burst of force to blast him away.

    However, when Narros taunted as he projected a burst of magical energy that was a spell that was so ancient as to outdate any ofDaersidian's pathetic tricks, Daersidian impressed him by generating a magical shield that deflected the blast.

    When Daersidian either continued to deflect that spell and/or deflected another spell, the perplexed Narros asked how he could do so, as there were no counters to that spell.Daersidian advised him that mages had made some advancements since his day.

    After one of the giant serpents grabbed Brusselt, Sheva used her Hungersword to cut off the serpent's upraised neck.

    Oblivious to or disregarding this, Narros prepared to unleash his raw power against Daersidian; however, the head of the severed serpent fell upon and apparently destroyed or at least incapacitated him.

(Ptolus: City by the Spire#4 - BTS) - Daersidian transported the gravely wounded Brusselt away to treat him, leaving Sheva to continue her mission alone...for now...

Courtesy of Loki, who introduced me to the series, explained its origins and nature and suggested Narros to represent the series:

    It's not a book adaptation, despite being Dabel Brothers. Instead Ptolus is a tabletop RPG setting, specifically using the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons' system. Monte Cook came up with a fantasy world and turned it into a setting for AD&D, and then wrote this comic set in the same world. In D&D terms, Narros is what is termed a lich.

    The art style was very different between issues #3-4. You can see side-by-side images of his two appearances here.

    This profile was completed 02/04/2026, but its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 25^th anniversary 's celebratory event.
