History:
(Willie Lumpkin newspaper strip (fb)
- BTS) - Recently married and deeply in love, the Justweds moved into a
cottage in Glenville. A romantic, their mailman Willie Lumpkin enjoyed
delivering mail to them. Then Mr. Justwed went on his first business
trip. Having never been separated from her spouse before, Mrs. Justwed
worried that her "poor angel" would be helpless without her and hoped
he'd be alright.
(Willie Lumpkin newspaper strip) - One
morning Willie Lumpkin arrived with a letter from Mr. Justwed. Excited
to be hearing from her darling hubby, Mrs. Justwed immediately ripped
the envelope open, and Willie waited for her to read the message,
basking in the pleasure of being able to bring happiness into the lives
of those on his mail route. He listened attentively as Mrs. Justwed
gushed about how she missed her husband and hoped he was coping with
being separated from her. Then she read the letter:
"Darling,
Don't worry about me.
Having a great
time!
Everything
fine!
Love,
Hubby"
Immediately and to the consternation of
Willie, Mrs. Justwed launched into a rant with her ire rising with every
word, enraged to hear that he was having a great time without her, and
that "everything's fine." She denounced her husband as utterly heartless
and then broke into angry tears, announcing that she had a good mind to
go home to her mother. Turning on Willie, who'd remained watching in
stunned silence throughout, she shouted at him that men were all alike,
then stormed back inside and slammed the door in his face.
