Powers/Abilities: A spiny mammal, Mother Hedgehog is covered with pointed hollow hairs made stiff via keratin, and she can likely roll into a ball covered with such spines for defensive purposes.

    She was nocturnal and most likely omnivorous.

    She had apparently a human level intellect and could speak and understand the English language, at least.

    As a mother, she was highly protective of her young.

(M&M "Mistaken Identity" (fb) - BTS) - Mother Hedgehog delivered at least three babies.

(M&M "Mistaken Identity" (fb) - BTS) - Soon thereafter, Eleanor Livingston reopened her family's Livingston Manor following a decade of disuse. Guests visiting the manor explored the grounds, and Mother Hedgehog felt threatened by the humans who suddenly came to close to her home. Unaware of the intentions of the visitors, Mother Hedgehog took advantage of the dim lighting and foggy conditions to appear as a menacing/monstrous creature that growled, screeched and frightened the visitors.

(M&M "Mistaken Identity" (fb) - BTS) - As M&M Green was an old friend of Eleanor, she chose to attend the reopening, and she invited her friends Blue, Brown, Orange, Red and Yellow to accompany her.

(M&M "Mistaken Identity" - BTS) - After the M&Ms heard Eleanor noted how guest had complained of the "Monster of the Moors" or "Moor Monster," and they heard the guest complain directly, Green convinced her friends to investigate.

(M&M "Mistaken Identity") - Exploring the grounds outside the manor, the M&Ms encountered the "Monster," and Blue took a picture of it before they fled back to the manor.

(M&M "Mistaken Identity" (fb) - BTS) - Via the manor's library, Green correctly identified the "Monster" as a hedgehog.

(M&M "Mistaken Identity") - Green led her fellow M&Ms and Eleanor out into the grounds around the manor and to the burrow in which the hedgehog family dwelled. Green called out, "Excuse me...you, living in the burrow, please show yourself. We are not here to harm you in any way. I know it was you prowling the moors at night, frightening off the guests."

    Mother Hedgehog then emerged from the burrow, admitted that she was the one who had been frightening off all of the intruders who had come near her den with intentions unknown to her. She further asked who Green was and how she knew it had been her. Green then introduced herself and explained how Eleanor opened the manor and surrounding grounds, after which she explained that she had used the photograph taken by blue to find a match in the manor's library, identifying her as hedgehog. Green further stated that she knew if they located her that they could come to some sort of agreement to end her nightly hauntings.

    Mother Hedgehog further explained that she had felt threatened by all of the humans who so suddenly came so close to her home and that she had something of great value to protect in her burrow, more precious to her than anything in the world. She welcomed the M&Ms into her burrow (Eleanor was presumably too big to fit) to see what was so vital to her. As they entered the burrow, Green correctly surmised that the hedgehog was a mother, and the M&Ms greeted the cute little hedgehog pups.

    Eleanor then promised Mother Hedgehog that from this day forth, this area of the moors was totally off-limits to any visitor to Livingston Manor, and that as her children grew, they would have the full run of the grounds around her home, undisturbed. Mother Hedgehog thanked her from the bottom of her heart for herself and for her children.

    Mother Hedgehog was way larger than conventional hedgehogs, which are more like 6-12" long. It's hard to estimate her size, because she was seen next to M&Ms, but Green (the green M&M) was about half the height of Eleanor Livingston, whom I estimated to be 5'6", which would make Green about 2'9" (33") tall. Mother Hedgehog is covered with thick spikes, and it was difficult to estimate her anatomy. The top of Mother Hedgehog's head was a little lower than the top of Green's head. Her shoulder may have been slightly higher or lower than the top of her head. Based on the position of her back legs, she looked to be about as long as Green.
    With a 12" long hedgehog being about 2.5 pounds, by the cube rule, a 33" hedgehog should weigh 20.79x more, or about 50 lbs.
    Also...she could speak and understand English and was apparently of human level intelligence.

    If Mother Hedgehog was like conventional hedgehogs, she had a gestation period of 35-58 days. The father of the hedgehogs was likely nearby, but as father hedgehogs sometimes eat their young, it is not surprising that he was not welcome/present in the burrow in which Mother Hedgehog kept her young.

    Appearing in an advertising/promotional comic for M&M candies, these are considered fringe stories and characters. If there is nothing to exclude them, they may be part of -616 continuity, but they are not "official" until another "canon" source confirms them as so.

    Hedgehogs are interesting creatures. You can Google them for all kinds of cool details about their anatomy, evolution,lifestyle, etc.

The M&M confection came into production in the United States in 1941 and has since been sold in more than 100 countries. It was conceived in partnership between Forrest Mars and Bruce Murrie (representing the "M" and "M"), the son of the president of the rival Hershey Chocolate Company.

    This profile was completed 07/23/2026, but its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 25th anniversary 's celebratory event to represent the M&Ms series and characters.
