History:

(Comedy Comics I#9/2) - Splash Morgan woke up in his apartment one morning to the sound of his alarm clock. He complained that it seemed as though as soon as he fell asleep, it was time to wake up and work again. He went to take a shower, hoping it would perk him up, but he found five people waiting outside the common shower. Realizing he'd be late for work if he waited for all of them, Splash put on his suit and went to the local diner for his breakfast. As he started eating, Splash was annoyed by Professor Pickens, who was seated next to him, picking his teeth with a toothpick. Pickens leand over in his chair, preventing Splash from eating. With his appetite ruined by Pickens' manners, Splash abandoned his meal and went to work. On the way he was almost run over by a car that ignored a red light. Entering the office, Splash's boss informed him he was "two and one third seconds late" and declared Splash was fired. Erupting in anger, Splash grabbed his boss by the scalp and ranted about everything he'd endured that morning then declared he was going away to another planet where he could get away from it all.

    Splash had no idea how he would get to another planet, but was determined somehow he'd find a way. While walking away from the office in anger, Splash was warned that a nearby building was being blasted. Splash ignored the warning at first, but suddenly he noticed a drum of TNT ahead of him that was about to explode. To save his life, Splash dived into a garbage can just as the TNT detonated. The blast was so great that Splash's garbage can was hurled into space, landing on the planet Mars.

    Exiting the garbage can, Splash went exploring. When he asked aloud whether anyone lived in "this dump," it provoked an angry response from a representative of the Martian Chamber of Commerce, who insisted it was a beautiful country with no poverty or unemployment. The Martian asked Splash for $5 for a cup of coffee, but Splash replied he was a stranger there and his money wouldn't be worth anything on Mars.

    Suddenly, the self-proclaimed dictator Glurp appeared and demanded Splash give him his money. Splash refused and Glurp insisted he'd take it - once he had inspired an army of fellow Martians to do the dirty work for him. But before Glurp's forces could attack Splash, another dictator named Gloop apepared and demanded he should have Splash's money. Gloop and Glurp began to argue over which of them were superior until Splash told them to simply fight each other rather than sending armies against each other. When Splash knocked their heads together, Gloop and Glurp teamed up and began punching Splash.

    Suddenly and surprisingly, Professor Pickens appeared, claiming he'd been thrown out of the cafe with such force that he landed on Mars. When Splash asked Pickens to help him against the two dictators, Pickens jabbed both men with his toothpick, causing both dictators to flee.

    Pickens wanted to become the new dictator of Mars in their place but Splash insisted they should both leave the planet. Purchasing some dynamite, Splash put himself and Pickens inside the garbage can and lit the dynamite beneath, intending to send them both to another planet when it exploded.

    The conclusion of Splash's adventure claimed he'd get himself "in a real pickle in his next trip to another planet!" Unfortunately, this was his only adventure.

    Splash Morgan's saga was something of a satire on Flash Gordon. Glurp was a parody of Hitler, while Gloop was a parody of Stalin.
