History:
(Rangeland Love I#1/4 (fb)) - Lee Morgan went to work on an oilfield alongside Steve Boyd. Lee fell in love with Steve's daughter, Helen. Lee's boss, Mr. King, hired Lee as the oilfield's new trouble-shooter, informing Steve Boyd - who had been the trouble-shooter for 30 years - that it was time for him to retire. Steve was furious and blamed Lee for taking away his job.
(Rangeland Love I#1/4) - When Lee and Helen informed Steve they wanted to be married, Steve again blamed Lee for taking away his job and refused to bless their union, ordering him to never return to his house. Helen went to meet with Lee and he told her he understood why her father hated him. They kissed, uncertain whether they would ever win over Steve.
Later, Helen went back to Lee one night and told him they could never marry because Steve wanted Helen to care for him in his old age and could never stand to see her with someone he hated. Lee tried to convince Helen to marry him, believing Steve would eventually come around, but Helen refused; they kissed farewell.
Weeks later, Lee decided to step back from his job as trouble-shooter in order to give Steve another chance in that role. The same day Lee left, there was a fire at an oil well one evening. When Steve went in to fight the blaze, Lee returned and donned an asbestos suit to follow Steve in the fire, bringing Steve out safely.
Afterward, Steve and Lee were treated for burns at the same hospital and the two men came to an understanding; Steve conceded it was time for him to step aside as trouble-shooter and give the role to Lee, who'd proved more capable at fighting the fire. Steve gave his blessing for Helen and Lee to be married and the couple kissed in gratitude for coming through the dilemma.

This is an interesting deviation from the norm in western comics - not only because it was set in contemporary times but on an oilfield instead of a ranch or rodeo like the majority of western comics.

Helen Boyd was Steve Boyd's daughter. Helen fell in love with Lee Morgan but when Lee was given Steve's job on the oilfield, Steve was furious and refused to permit Helen to marry Lee. Helen acceded to her father's wishes but one night, when Lee saved Steve from a fire at an oil well, Steve finally accepted it was time for him to retire and he gave Helen permission to marry Lee.

Steve Boyd was an oilfield worker who had served as the trouble-shooter for Mr. King's oilfield for 30 years, taking on the dangerous job of fighting fires at oil wells. When Mr. King decided to give Steve's job to Lee Morgan, saying it was time for Steve to retire, Steve was furious and was embittered toward Lee. When Steve's daughter Helen revealed she and Lee were in love, Steve refused to honor their relationship. Lee eventually stepped back from being trouble-shooter so that Steve could again hold that role. When a fire broke out at an oil well, Steve went in to fight the fire but was lost in the flames. Lee came to Steve's rescue and afterwards in the hospital the two men reconciled over their differences and Steve blessed Lee and Helen's wedding.
