Powers/Abilities: The mutated monsters existed in diverse forms, with some being giant and immensely strong creatures in various forms (bipeds, quadrupeds, insectoids, reptilian, etc.) and some being closer to human-size, as can be seen in the images.

Traits: They were driven to attack anyone in their vicinity. It is not clear whether they were predatory/hungry, territorial and/or just maddened by their mutation.

History:

(Galactus the Devourer#1  - BTS) - As recent exposure to the surface world had rendered the Moloids more sensitive to the pollution in the aquifers -- apparent caused by the surface dwellers -- around which they dwelled,the Mole Man and his Moloids stole a sewage treatment plant, which he intended to use to purify these waters.

(Warlock III#4 (fb) - BTS) - Nonetheless weakened by their exposure to the pollutants, the Moloids dropped the facility, cracking some of its components.

    Additionally, the polllutants apparently mutated subterranean lichens, as well as some of the Subterranean monsters who typically served the Mole Man (or perhaps the monsters were in some other fashion created by the pollution), all of whom were exceptionally sensitive to the pollutants.

    Intending to seek the Fantastic Four's aid, the Mole Man traveled to the surface world.

(Warlock III#4 - BTS) - Spotting the technarch Warlock, the transmode virus-infected mutant human Hope and the telekinetic Psi-Cop Psimon, who were trying to eke out an existence and avoid their enemies, the Mole Man felt that they could help instead, and he had the Moloids cause their dwelling to sink into Subterranea. Detecting this, the trio confronted the Mole Man, and as he explained the situation, some of the monsters approached, causing the Moloids to flee.

(Warlock III#4) - As the immense monster mutates rushed toward them, Warlock blasted and dropped one of the creatures, but the Mole Man warned them to run but to watch out for the lichens.

    As Hope was then unable to control infecting others with the transmode virus, she struggled to avoid touching the monsters and making them potentially even more dangerous. However, as their mass attack was like a living tidal wave coming at them, Psimon encased her in a telekinetic cube.

    However, Psimon was then engulfed by one of the mutated lichens, and its extremely strong and sticky nature prevented even his telekinetic powers from enabling him to escape. Via guidance from Psimon and Warlock, Hope used her power to infect the lichen only with the transmode virus, making it into brittle circuitry that Psimon could shatter and escape.

    Warlock and Psimon continued to fight the monster mutates, but eventually Psimon realized that there were too many to stop telekinetically. Psimon instead telepathically assured the Moloids that they could handle the monsters, and he guided them to dig a deep pit beneath the monsters, and the monsters fell into it.

(Warlock III#4 - BTS) - With Psimon surmising that the monsters wouldn't bother the Moloids "for quite some time," Warlock acted as the spare parts in the treatment plant, while Hope infected the remaining mutated lichens with the transmode virus and fed their energy to Warlock.

    In this fashion, they improved the local water quality in that region of Subterranea.

    Hope subsequently advised the Mole Man to mine gold to pay Tony Stark to make long-term replacement parts fortreatment plant.
