mongdal-taegukgi-tdFirst Appearance: Black Cat Annual II#1 (August, 2021)

Powers/Abilities: Mongdal can project his consciousness out of his own body and into the body of another, allowing him to take control of that being. After he departed a host, that being was left unconscious for a period of time.

While he lacked the power to possess someone as superhumanly powerful as Taegukgi, he could do so with a drug infusion that enhanced his powers.

Mongdal was only seen seated in the chair that supported his body when he projected his mind into Taegukgi, and there was not mention of him being paraplegic, so presumably had full mobility.

He wore eyeglasses, although the specific nature of his vision limitations and prescription are unrevealed.

He formerly controlled the body of Taegukgi, who was strong, virtually invulnerable and able to fly.

Height: Unrevealed (approximately 5'8")
Weight: Unrevealed (approximately 220 lbs.)
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Black

History:

(Black Cat Annual II#1 (fb) - BTS) - Mongdal was known as a body thief to White Fox and Tiger Division, although he was not powerful enough to take over someone like the ubermensch Taegukgi.

(Black Cat Annual II#1 (fb) - BTS) - Employed by the gangster family Choi Faction (led by Mr. Choi), Mongdal's death was faked, and he was given drugs to increase his power. Mongdal subsequently sent his mind into the body of the Tiger Division's Taegukgi, taking control of him. The Choi Faction then demanded that the government cede control to them or they would unleash Taegukgi on Seoul.

From the abandoned Alps Ski resort that the Choi Faction used as a base, his body received IV fluids to maintain it while his mind was in Taegukgi's body (or maybe that was the drug infusion to enhance his power to the level that he could control Taegukgi).

However, with Taegukgi's power at his command, Mongdal felt that he did not have to listen to anyone, and he --having no interest in politics or leadership -- intended to just use Taegukgi for general destruction and chaos. Mongdal employed the South Korean death cult known as the Maidens to slaughter the Choi Faction at the Alps Ski resort out of which they were based.

Mongdal realized that someone would stop him eventually, but he planned to use Taegukgi's power to kill as many as he could in the meantime, and he felt that Taegukgi would be forever ruined by the experience of being used for such atrocities.

(Black Cat Annual II#1 (fb) - BTS) - Seeking her aid in tracking down those responsible for taking control of Taegukgi, when the Black Cat stopped over in Incheon airport, White Fox arranged to have her arrested.

(Black Cat Annual II#1 - BTS) - White Fox convinced the Black Cat to do a job for the Republic of Korea. White Fox implanted a translator that also contained a nanomunition bomb into Black Cat's neck, ensuring her cooperation. They met up with the rest of Tiger Division, where White Fox revealed that they had tracked the Choi Faction's transmissions to the abandoned Alps Ski resort.

(Black Cat Annual II#1 (fb) - BTS) - Black Cat presumably obtained one of the bomb implant devices that White Fox had used on her while she was in Tiger Division's headquarters.

(Black Cat Annual II#1 - BTS) - While the rest of Tiger Division provided a distraction and futilely battled the mind-controlled Taegukgi, Black Cat and White Fox infiltrated the resort to learn how the Choi Faction were controlling Taegukgi and neutralize them.

However, the Cat and Fox instead found the Choi Faction to have been slaughtered. They were then confronted by the Maidens, whom they defeated (and apparently slew).

(Black Cat Annual II#1) - In Taegukgi's form, Mongdal easily overpowered and incapacitated Tiger Division.

Black Cat located the unconscious Mongdal in a small room.

(Black Cat Annual II#1 (fb) - BTS) - Wishing some insurance before engaging Mongdal, the Black Cat injected a nanobomb into Mongdal's neck.

(Black Cat Annual II#1) - After Black Cat called to her, White Fox recognized and identified Mongdal and explained his involvement. Black Cat prepared to kill him to end his threat, but White Fox stopped her, explaining that if he died, his consciousness would remain in Taegukgi forever.

Black Cat instead slapped him repeatedly, telling him to wake up, and Mongdal sensed that someone was interfering with his body. Returning to his own form and leaving Taegukgi unconscious, Mongdal recognized White Fox and told her he had noted her absence in his battle against Tiger Division. He instructed her and her foreign ally to stay back or he would retreat to Taegukgi's body or perhaps take one of theirs. Advising Mongdal that she had a bomb in her neck (and that White Fox likely did, too), Black Cat asked him about his involvement with Mr. Choi.

While having enjoyed beating Tiger Division into unconsciousness, Mongdal had regretted leaving anyone awake so he could gloat about his plans. He therefore readily detailed his involvement and his plans to Black Cat and White Fox. Drooling with glee, Mongdal decided that they were lying about the bombs and that he was going to take over Black Cat and make her kill or be killed by White Fox.mongdal-taegukgi-death

(Black Cat Annual II#1) - Revealing that she had injected a bomb into Mongdal's neck, Black Cat then detonated it, killing him.

(Black Cat Annual II#1 - BTS) - After Black Cat explained that she had wanted Mongdal to talk before she killed him (presumably to confirm Taegukgi's innocence and cause of the death of the Choi Faction, etc.), White Fox released Black Cat from her service and asked her continue her vacation.

Comments: Created by Jed MacKay and Joey Vazquez.

It could be that Mongdal is his real name. However, based on the information below, it seems likely to be an alias.

    According to koccult.com:

**Mongdal** or **Mongdal Gwishin** is the Korean bachelor ghost, a restless male spirit who died unmarried and therefore failed to complete the expected social and ancestral duties of traditional family life. Often imagined hiding under a straw sack or basket, he is associated with shame, hunger, possession, illness, and the need for a posthumous soul wedding.

I would think that Black Cat would have insisted that White Fox deactivate and/or destroy the nanomunition in her neck before she left and that she would have had herself checked out thereafter to confirm that it was no longer a threat and/or had it removed.

Thanks to Loki for suggesting Mongdal to represent Luna Snow (actually, it was suggested to profile Mongdal for Tiger Division and Vibe for Luna Snow...then I realized that Starfox needed a profile, so I profiled Vibe for him, moved Mongdal for Luna Snow and then covered the Maidens for Tiger Division).
