Powers/Abilities: Myron Midgely was a very meek man with low self-esteem. Myron wore thick glasses, evidently suffering from poor eyesight. He learned mesmerism but has only practiced it upon himself.

History:
(Adventure into Mystery I#2/3) - Myron Midgely was an incredibly meek man, so meek that he was practically scared of his own shadow. One day on the street, he thought a man was following him. Although he was mistaken, the episode convinced Myron he needed to do something to overcome his handicap. Realizing he was in front of a bookstore, he saw before him a book titled The Art of Hypnotism by Crumly Finch. At first, Myron thought he could use hypnosis to ward off anyone who might harm him but by the time he bought the book, he had resolved to try and hypnotize himself and make himself into "the bold adventurer I've always wanted to be!"

    At home, Myron began reading from the book. Holding up a mirror, he began to give instructions to his reflection, attempting to conquer his own mind. He commanded himself to be brave and bold. When the hypnosis session ended, Myron stood up straight with confidence, declaring "I fear no man!" Hearing a scream outside, Myron boldly charged outdoors and found a beautiful woman in trouble. The woman introduced herself as Sonya and cautioned Myron that she was being pursued by armed men. Unafraid, Myron told her to lead the way while he defended her.

    As they fled down an alleyway, Myron spotted two shadowy figures following them. Ducking behind a corner, Myron tripped the men as they ran up. He told Sonya to continue on without him, promising to give the two men a fight, but Sonya insisted that Myron remain with her, calling him "dearest." Sonya guided Myron into an amusement park and directed him into a roller-coaster "rocket ride." When Myron asked Sonya why she called him "dearest," she claimed she meant it with all her heart. She began to explain her situation, saying her brother Stefan was a prisoner of a new government that had come to power in her country. She asked Myron to help rescue Stefan and he agreed, saying he had fallen in love with Sonya at first sight. Sonya claimed she loved him too and that they would be married when it was all over.

    The "rocket ride" proved to be an actual rocket craft that took flight into the air. It was only then that Sonya revealed her country was on Jupiter and that she had disguised her vehicle as a roller-coaster ride. After a long flight to Jupiter, Sonya guided her rocket to the prison yard of the facility where Stefan was held. Sonya gave Myron a weapon and instructed him to act quickly in rescuing Stefan. Myron followed her instructions but he found the prison was surprisingly easy to infiltrate and Stefan's cell was easy to open. As Myron, Stefan and Sonya went to exit the prison, guards finally blocked their path. Myron attempted to use the gun Sonya gave him but discovered it was inoperable. Having been growing gradually suspicious of Sonya since entering the prison, Myron asked for an explanation. Sonya replied that Stefan was actually her lover. Being a famous woman on Jupiter, Sonya went to Earth to recruit someone who didn't know her so that she could mount a rescue. Sonya thanked Myron for helping her as Myron realized that, despite his belief that he'd become brave and fearless, he was really still a coward.

    At that moment, Myron found himself back in his room, reading The Art of Hypnotism while holding up his mirror. It appeared as though Myron's entire adventure was simply a dream he had while under the influence of hypnosis. Still, Myron decided he wouldn't give up hope: he'd try hypnotism again and, perhaps next time, he really would be fearless.

    Perhaps the entire adventure on Jupiter actually happened-- although usually in these types of stories when there's doubt about whether someone's dream-like adventures really happened, they discover some sort of evidence from the encounter. Myron had no evidence that his adventure really happened and he didn't express any wish that it had (given what a disappointing climax his adventure had).

Sonya was evidently a product of Myron's hypnotic spell. In this seeming-hallucination, Sonya was a famous woman from the planet Jupiter whose lover Stefan was imprisoned by her nation's new government. Unable to find aid on Jupiter because she was too well-known, Sonya flew in a rocket to Earth to find help, landing the rocket at a roller-coaster in an amusement park.

Pursued by two shadowy men (possibly Jovians), Sonya encountered Myron Midgely and requested his help in rescuing Stefan, claiming Stefan was her brother and that she had fallen in love with Myron. Myron fell for Sonya's story and she directed him in a successful rescue of Stefan. Once Stefan was free, she revealed his true identity.

In Myron's hypnosis-induced hallucination, Stefan was Sonya's lover in their country on the planet Jupiter. When a new government came into power, Stefan was jailed. Sonya went to Earth and recruited Myron Midgely to help her rescue Stefan, claiming Stefan was her brother and that she was in love with Myron. Myron fell for Sonya's lies and rescued Stefan, only then to discover Stefan's true identity.
