History:

(Comedy Comics I#11/4) - Maisie Martin lived in Hollywood with her family. Maisie's great dream was to become an actress and she convinced her father to send her to dramatic school to learn the craft. As Maisie was doing the dishes with her friend Susie she started trying to show off some of her dramatic talents but accidentally knocked over dishes. This upset Maisie's father, who decided he wouldn't send her to dramatic school after all. Undaunted, Maisie tried again to behave like an actress such as Greta Garbo, only to trip over a rug, once again upsetting her father.

    When Maisie's boyfriend Snooks arrived with Susie's boyfriend Jerry to take both of the girls out, Maisie claimed to be uninterested, still attempting to imitate the aloof personality of Garbo. Snooks and Jerry brought them to the restaurant the Nook, where they encountered Brenda Barlow, Maisie's rival. Brenda's boyfriend Guy had experience acting on the New York stage and Maisie became fascinated by him, which annoyed Brenda.

    The next day, Maisie went to her high school's dramatic group after school. Maisie won the lead role, which was opposite Guy, further annoying Brenda. Brenda withdrew her offer of costumes and scenery for the play but Maisie insisted her father would pay for the costumes and she'd get Snooks to build the scenery. When Maisie told her father she'd volunteered him to pay for the costumes he was willing to, just to prove a point to Brenda's father.

    Maisie was so tired from her work arranging the play that she was exhausted by the time of the dress rehearsal. Finally, the day came for the performance of the play 'Fly Away with Me.' Maisie was nervous when she heard there was a movie scout in the audience. The play suffered numerous setbacks as Snooks opened the curtain too soon, a prop ladder broke under Maisie's foot and various other props and set pieces fell apart, causing the audience to laugh. After the play, the movie scout introduced himself to Maisie, believing the play was deliberately comedic. The scout offered Guy a screen test. When Maisie asked for a screen test, the scout said, "perhaps in a couple of years... you're not ready yet!"

    Maisie was embarrassed, but Guy had been invited to a Hollywood premiere the next day and he invited Maisie to come with him. Maisie enjoyed the glamor of walking down the red carpet with Guy.
