Powers/Abilities: Magnetrix fires "disruption orbs" from her palms which affect the nervous system of her targets, leaving them paralyzed and in great pain, enough to knock out regular humans. She can fire multiple orbs at the same time. The orbs reflect off solid surfaces, and Magnetrix's aim is proficient, enabling her to hit her targets through ricochets.
She can also disrupt technology, including at a distance, and apparently even scramble the genes of shapeshifting Skrulls.
Her ability has limits, as she required Liberty's energy source to generate an orb beyond the usual size.
Magnetrix is not immune to her own orbs and wears a helmet styled after that of Magneto, presumably to avoid accidentally incapacitating herself.

History: (New Champions#3 (fb)) - Magnetrix was one of the subjects in the Hydra program that kidnapped children with potential for superpowers and turned them into agents posing as "heroes" for good publicity. The children were subjected to brainwashing that erased their real names and memories of their families, whose memories of the children were removed as well.
(New Champions#6 (fb) - BTS) - While on a mission for Hydra, Magnetrix had her own disruptive orb bounce back and hit her on the head. It disrupted Hydra brainwashing and made her aware both of Hydra's cruel experiments on her and the dirty work she had done them them. To deal with the shock of the sudden revelation, Magnetrix continued disrupting herself until she achieved clarity. She then escaped from her tormentors. Magnetrix became jealous of her four former fellow subjects at the Hydra facility (Cadet Marvel, Hellrune, Liberty and Moon Squire), who after being rescued by Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew) became a team of legitimate superheroes.
(New Champions#3 (fb) - BTS) - Magnetrix allied herself with a magician Monte who fell in love with her. She began keeping tabs on the New Champions.
(New Champions#2 - BTS) - A spell by Hellrune summoned the current New Champions and their potential future allies to Iceland where they fought reanimated vikings and trolls. Monte was among those summoned, and though he declined to join the New Champions team, he agreed to take Liberty's hard light communicator before returning home through a portal.
(New Champions#2) - Magnetrix disabled the communicator the second Monte materialized at her base. Though his infiltration was a success, she regretted missing the fun and decided to create her own.
(New Champions#3 (fb)) - Seeking to pit the New Champions against the original Champions whose name they had adopted without permission, Magnetrix sent both teams an invitation to an event supposedly honoring them. Monte questioned whether they would see through the fraud, but Magnetrix dismissed his concerns, though she did take care to target the biggest ego of the original Champions: Brawn. She then asked Monte to teleport her into and out of the Raft, easily playing on his feeling for her when he hesitated.
Magnetrix and Monte entered the Raft through a portal and retrieved Psycho-Man's Control Box from the armory before facing the security. The men did not take the "Magneto fangirl" seriously, and Magnetrix fired a series of orbs that knocked all of them out. She and Monte then broke Psycho-Man himself out of his cell and took him to the planned event.
Magnetrix styled herself as the program coordinator of the event, a live-streamed debate between the Champions and the New Champions. When the New Champions arrived at the given address, she welcomed the team and guided them inside towards the debate room, announcing that it was time to settle which team had the right to name themselves the Champions. Backstage, Psycho-Man used his Control Box's hate setting on the heroes, leading to a heated tension between the two teams. The synthezoid Viv Vision was unaffected, and Magnetrix had to sneakily fire a disruption orb at her to get Viv to attack the others.
(New Champions#3) - As the two teams began fighting each other in earnest, Magnetrix observed with twisted delight. She then rushed backstage and told Monte to teleport them out. He hesitated, and moments later Kamala Khan's giant fist punched Liberty right at them. Furious, Magnetrix fired a series of orbs at Ms. Marvel and Liberty before escaping with Monte.
(New Champions#5 - BTS) - For her next plan, Magnetrix had Monte come under attack by a "giant monster" of their own creation in San Juan. The New Champions came to his rescue, and during the resulting chaos Monte kidnapped Liberty and teleported away.
(New Champions#6 (fb) - BTS) - While Liberty was restrained with Monte's magic at the base, Magnetrix and Monte broke out a Super-Skrull agent locked up in a prison ever since the Secret Invasion.
(New Champions#6 (fb)) - Magnetrix and Monte returned to their base with the Skrull to find Liberty still restrained and struggling to escape. Liberty had recognized Magnetrix from the Hydra facility, prompting her to reveal her backstory and the motivation - to make the whole world as uninhibited as her.
Magnetrix and Monte took Liberty to Times Square, where the New Champions showed up to the rescue, backed the Avengers themselves. From a rooftop, Magnetrix used her orbs to help the Super-Skrull gain the powers of all the New Champions and unleashed him on the heroes. She then asked Monte to fire up an energy transfer spell so that she could use the renewable battery bonded to Liberty to power up an orb large enough to disrupt all of New York. Monte again briefly hesitated, worried that it could kill Liberty, something about which Magnetrix was completely unconcerned.
(New Champions#6) - Magnetrix kept stealing more and more of Liberty's energy, but the transfer took the toll on Monte, whose spells began to weaken. He lost concentration, and Liberty broke free, hit Magnetrix in the knee, and pushed her off the rooftop. The large orb popped off harmlessly, and Liberty kept her hold of Magnetrix as the two of them fell. Rejecting Liberty's pleas, Magnetrix fired up an orb which shocked both of them, breaking free from her grasp. Monte opened a portal through which the unconscious Magnetrix fell and then followed her, while Liberty was caught from her fall by Captain America.

Magnetrix originated as one of the "secret sidekicks" created for the New Champions Variant Cover Program in October, 2023. Each of the 22 variant covers by different creators depicted a never-before-seen young protege' of an established hero in the vein of the role that Spider-Boy (Bailey Briggs) played for Spider-Man (Peter Parker). Because there was no immediate intention to bring these characters into continuity, their codenames, civilian names, powers, backstories, and personalities were at this point mostly undefined, though some artists had certain ideas in mind. "New Champions" at this time only referred to the cover initiative and was not indicative of an actual team by that name.
Interest in the new characters among both fans and creators led to some of them appearing in the narrative, beginning with Maystorm (Mei Igarashi) in Ultimate X-Men II (set on Earth-6160). 13 other characters were shown, alongside Spider-Boy, in a single panel in Timeless III#1 (2023), which depicted both the past of Earth-54230 (in which the main story of Timeless took place) and the potential future (relative to the publication "present") of Earth-616. Notably, at this time the majority of the characters remained undefined, explaining why Magnetrix and Monte appear among the heroes. Though there remains a possibility for this exact roster to come together on Earth-616 at some point, the appearances in Timeless III#1 are currently considered to belong to reality-54230 only.
The first four of the New Champions to make a proper Earth-616 debut were Liberty, Cadet Marvel, Hellrune, and Moon Squire in Spider-Woman VIII#7-10 (2024) by Steve Foxe. That storyline established the four's backstory as the former brainwashed puppets of Hydra and for the first time used the name "New Champions" to refer to them in-universe. Though Magnetrix would later be revealed to share that backstory, none of the other characters from the Variant Cover Program introduced to Earth-616 appear to be connected to Hydra thus far. Three more variant cover sidekicks made their proper appearances across various titles in late 2024 - Fantasma, Amaranth, and Hulkette.
When the decision was made to launch the New Champions as a proper series, Steve Foxe got a chance building on his story from Spider-Woman VIII. The fundamental details about characters yet to appear outside of Timeless were still undefined, so Foxe was the one responsible for fleshing them out with the help of editor Alanna Smith. Starting with the "core four" introduced in Spider-Woman, the series quickly expanded its cast to showcase more of New Champions characters, though many of them only appeared in guest roles and did not join the team proper - an understandable practical limitation, as even a team of 6 has characters fighting for space, nevermind a team of 22. It is at this point that the distinction between "New Champions" of the Variant Cover Program and "New Champions" of the in-universe team becomes relevant: Magnetrix is part of the Cover Program but not of the team, as are many others.
This journey of the New Champions from variant covers to the proper narrative mirrors that of certain Gwenpool (Gwen Poole). As of 2026, 3 of the 22 characters have only appeared in Timeless III#1 (and thus have their names and backstory still unrevealed), while 5 more have yet to appear in the narrative at all. The rest have been introduced on Earth-616 or - in Maystorm's case - on Earth-6160.
Steve Foxe has confirmed that the New Champions series was originally meant to run for longer than 8 issues. Whether Magnetrix was intended to reappear remains unknown, as Foxe declined to elaborate on unproduced storylines.
As it currently stands, Magnetrix has no actual connections to Magneto in regards to her powers or origin. Curiously, Steve Foxe announced on his blog an interview teasing "Magnetrix' possible mutant connections", but the actual published interview features nothing of the sort. One can speculate that this question had been discussed but for whatever reason was edited out of publication. Without a confirmation from either the story or the creator, Magnetrix' possible mutant status remains unconfirmed.
Monte had affectionately called Magnetrix "Maggie," but whether it is her real name or merely a nickname based on her alias remains unrevealed.
New Champions#3 begins in the middle of the action, as Magnetrix watches the New Champions fight the Champions with her helmet on. The story then flashes back to how things got there, but during the events as shown Magnetrix maintains her disguise throughout and never uses her helmet.
This profile was completed 09/07/2026, but its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 25th anniversary 's celebratory event to represent the New Champions' stories and characters.

reality-54320, during the fight between Power Man (Luke Cage) and
Immortal Moon Knight (Danny Rand), Power Man was inspired by the
memories of the heroes of the past, having a vision of an assemblage of
young heroes that included Magnetrix.
