History:
(Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Magazine I#1) - Stanley Stobbs was a newspaper reporter covering
crime in New York City and the dastardly Shredder's evil empire was at
risk of being exposed due to some of his investigations. Stobbs was one of
the reasons Shredder ordered his mutant henchmen Bebop and Rocksteady to
dump mutagen into Manhattan's water supply.
That evening, Stanley Stobbs went to a
restaurant and ordered his favorite dish: lobster. When the lobster was
ready and on his table, he asked the waiter for a glass of water. The
waiter poured water from the tap into a glass, unaware that it was laced
with mutagen, and brought it to Stobbs. Stobbs drank the water with his
meal and quickly became ill. The mutagen worked instantly and the reporter
transformed into a humanoid lobster monster. Losing control and determined
to free the restaurant's lobsters, Stanley, screaming "aba-laba lob-ster,"
ran into the kitchen and charged at the lobster tank. He broke it then
punched a wall and went outside, where he encountered the Teenage Mutant
Ninja Turtles, who were ordering pizza at the same restaurant, and their
friend, Ray Fillet, a mutant manta ray. Stobbs wasn't looking kindly so
the turtles took up arms and began fighting while Ray Fillet stood by and
watched. Fillet soon intervened, telling Stobbs that lobsters, like rays,
belonged in the sea and promised to show him the sea, including the
lobsters that lived there. The mutated reporter calmed down and left with
Ray Fillet.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Magazine ran from 1990 to 1993
and spanned thirteen issues. It was published by Welsh Publishing Group,
which was acquired by Marvel in late 1994, so its publications are
considered fair game for the Appendix, similar to Malibu Comics and
CrossGen.
