History:

(Hedy of Hollywood Comics I#38/3) - Betty made a date with her boyfriend Buddy, but then had to pick up a dog named Byron who had just been delivered on a train, delaying their date. Once she had received Byron, Betty telephoned Buddy in an attempt to patch up their date and introduce Buddy to Byron. Thinking Byron was a rival for Betty's affections, Buddy brought along Marcia to meet Betty so he could show Betty he still had a date. However, Betty was properly offended at Buddy and slapped him in the face for bringing Marcia, then left with Byron. Realizing that Byron was a dog, Buddy understood his mistake.

(Joker Comics I#42/3) - When Benny the ambulance driver invited Buddy to join him on his Uncle Rufus' ranch, Buddy likewise invited Betty to join them on the ranch. Buddy, Benny, Betty and Benny's girlfriend Maxine went to the ranch. Buddy and Benny had lied to their girlfriends about being good horse riders because they thought Rufus had no horses and were mortified to learn Rufus had recently added horses to the ranch. Buddy accidentally chose a saddle for his horse that Benny had covered with adhesive; when Betty saw Buddy perform admirably riding upon a bucking horse, she assumed he really was a good horse rider. However, afterwards, when Buddy needed help removing the saddle, Betty realized what had happened. With the saddle firmly affixed to the seat of Buddy's pants, the four friends had to return home with Buddy riding on top of the car's hood.

    Betty Knight and her cast didn't get a proper introductory story - in fact, Betty wasn't even identified as a nurse in her first appearance, which made the feature title "Betty Knight, the Girl in White" a bit of a misnomer. Unfortunately, Betty debuted at a time when Marvel was cutting back on the number of humor comics they were publishing; there were probably other Betty Knight stories that were done up but left unpublished due to the swift change of fortunes.

    This profile was completed on 03/03/2026 but its publication was delayed, as it was intended for the Appendix's 25th anniversary celebratory event.
