(Glam Metal Detectives Special#1/3)
- Hearing strange noises coming from the throne room in Buckingham
Palace, King George V armed himself with a poker and burst in to
confront the intruders. He found two flappers, Betty and Maisy, stealing
the crown jewels, while the queen sat watching helplessly, tied up on
her throne. The thieves pointed a gun at the monarch, forcing him to
surrender. After Maisy took the crown off his head they took a sash from
the window and tied him and the queen up on the floor together, but
George managed to hit the silent alarm with his foot, summoning the
palace guards. When they arrived the two crooks were forced to leap from
the window to escape.
Comments: Created by Art Weatherall, very loosely
based on the real person
Betty's Mad Dash was a segment in the comedy
sketch show Glam Metal Detectives, a short lived BBC series that aired
in 1995. Marvel UK did a tie-in comic, with comics based on several of
the recurring skits. Betty's Mad Dash was a spoof done in the style of a
cinematic adventure serial, set in the 1930s and starring two slappers,
Betty and her friend Maisy, who spent each episode on the run after
robbing people.
The unidentified prince is historically problematic, since George V's surviving sons were all adults by that time, and the only grandson wasn't born until halfway through the decade. So the boy is too young to be a son and too old to be a grandson. But it's a spoof, so nobody's really caring about being too historically accurate.
He's listed as a former citizen because the
monarch is arguably not a citizen once they ascend the throne, since all
British passports and citizenships are issued in the monarchs name.
