History:
(
Fantastic Four: True Story#4 (fb) - BTS) - King Coma was the sovereign of the Kingdom of Coma within the Dream Dimension and in the vicinity of the Nightmare dimension, the Land of Fiction and the Anesthesia dimension.

King Coma had concerns about the territorial ambitions of Nightmare, ruler of the Nightmare Dimension.

(Fantastic Four: True Story#3 - BTS) - The Kingdom of Coma was adjacent to the Kingdom of Anesthesia and the Nightmare Dimension (Nightmare considered both realms petty and shabbily run). When human author Stephen G. Diesner turned Nightmare into a fictional character the Land of Fiction became also a neighboring dimension of the Kingdom of Coma.

(Fantastic Four: True Story#1-3 - BTS) - After Nightmare had conquered the Land of Fiction and caused an aversion to reading, the Fantastic Four traveled to that realm via the Experimental Fictocraft-1 (EF-1, aka the Jasper), were Nightmare seemingly destroyed them all.

(Fantastic Four: True Story#4 (fb)) - Wounded by Nightmare's soldier, Reed Richards slipped into a coma, which gave him realm to the Kingdom of Coma, adjacent to Nightmare's realm, about which Nightmare knew little of and cared less.

King Coma confirmed Reed's suspicion that Nightmare was behind the plot, and he also noted his concern with Nightmare's territorial ambitions.

Richards swapped military information for free passage across the border of the Nightmare dimension.

(Fantastic Four: True Story#4 - BTS) - As the border between the Kingdom of Coma and the Nightmare dimension were unguarded, Reed slipped back inside of the Nightmare dimension undetected.

Via manipulating the Land of Fiction, Reed restored his teammates and thwarted Nightmare's plot, restoring the Land of Fiction to its previous status.

Comments: Created by Paul Cornell, Horacio Domingues and Rick Burchett.

The Kingdom of Coma and perhaps King Coma may be behind the scenes in any story in which a person is in a comatose state.
Zuckyd1 suggested that the first appearance in Marvel Comics of someone in a coma
may be in Sub-Mariner Comics#1 (April, 1941). Emperor Thakorr is seemingly killed in that issue, but Saga of the Sub-Mariner#5 reveals that he was merely rendered comatose.

People use vegetative state as if it's the same as a coma or being brain dead, but it's not. Check out this site or Google it for the differences.
However, it is possible that the minds/spirits/astral selves of those in a vegetative or brain dead state were also within the  Kingdom of Coma.

King Coma previously had a sub-profile under the Kingdom of Coma, originally published 04/03/2015.

This profile was completed 04/12/2026, but its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 25th anniversary 's celebratory event.
Thanks to Loki for suggesting King Coma to represent Nightmare for the event.
