Powers/Abilities: Kid Columbus had some experience with black magic, based on what he'd read in a book. Kid Columbus was extremely resourceful and knew enough about automobiles and electric lights to recreate them using 15th century resources.

History:

(Comedy Comics I#10/15) - One day, a young man from Brooklyn was looking around the New York Public Library when he discovered a book of black magic written by a native of Haiti. Interested in the book's claims and wishing he could visit the time of Christopher Columbus, the young man cast a magic spell from the book and was sent back in time to Spain in 1492.

    Looking about the place, the young man asked to see King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain, calling himself "a regular Kid Columbus." Kid Columbus treated the king and queen flippantly as he explained how he traveled through time, then used his lighter to start a fire and played on his harmonica, attempting to amaze them with his futuristic devices. Queen Isabella was indeed impressed and asked him to remain as her "supervisor of progress."

    Before too long, Kid Columbus had used his knowledge of the future to bring to Spain electric lights, newspapers, pinball machines, taxicabs, baseball, jitterbug dancing and picketing. However, Kid Columbus had made an enemy of Alfonso Amigez, court magician, who decided to get rid of him. Amigez sent two men to assault Kid Columbus, but Kid Columbus bested them.

    Amigez summoned Kid Columbus to his laboratory and attempted to intimidate him by showing what he could mix with his chemicals, but Kid Columbus wasn't frightened. Finally, Amigez put a pellet into a goblet of wine and it knocked Kid Columbus unconscious. Amigez brought Kid Columbus to a torture chamber but when Kid Columbus revived he easily escaped his bonds and attacked Amigez. At last, one of Amigez's men hit Kid Columbus from behind and knocked him out again. This time, they placed Kid Columbus on the ship Venturo, which was bound for "unknown lands." When Kid Columbus revived and learned where he was, he recalled that according to history, the Venturo disappeared and was never found. He realized he'd been forced to serve as a sailor aboard a doomed ship.

    This was the only appearance of Kid Columbus which was an awfully cruel place to abandon his story. As it is, the story is very much in the style of Mark Twain's book 'A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court.'
