First Appearance: (Behind-the-scenes, unidentified) Plastic Forks#1 (1990);
    (seen, identified) Plastic Forks#2 (1990)

Powers/Abilities: Beyond the normal senses, agility, speed and strength of a chimpanzee (albeit one who was confined to a small crate and apparently not allowed to regularly exercise), George had had his genitalia and gonads amputated, and he was implanted with synthetic reproductive structures and a pinealator that would allow him to self reproduce.

George was intelligent enough to understand verbal commands, and he could track others, presumably by scent.

Despite the surgical procedures performed upon him, George remained friendly and willing to help the doctors that had cared for him.

Height: Unrevealed (approximately 3'; see comments)
Weight: Unrevealed (approximately 40-50 lbs.; see comments)
Eyes: Likely brown (although there was not an obvious distinction between the black pupil and the iris) with yellow-orange sclera
Hair: Brown

History:

(Plastic Forks#1 (fb) - BTS) - In an effort to develop a method of replication that did not rely on the variables and limitations of conventional sexual reproduction (and would apparently eliminate deformities, etc.), Drs. Henry Apt and Albert Finger -- working at the Megan Institute -- developed a process whereby the genitalia and gonads were removed from a subject, after which synthetic seminal vesicles and testes were transplanted, and then the Electro-Pinealator was implanted, which would make changes in the body that would allow both reproductive systems to exist and function in the same body; the device also simulated secondary sex characteristics and hydraulically pumped semen into the cervix (presumably they meant "through the cervix, and into the uterus").

The process was apparently successfully performed on George and apparently at least three other chimpanzees.

Dr. Finger was subsequently transferred to Mount Christian Hospital.

(Plastic Forks#2 (fb) - BTS) - Before departing, Dr. Finger asked Apt to continue their research and use the chimpanzee George, "the most advanced prototype of the lot," as his test subject.

(Plastic Forks#1) - George or another chimpanzee was present within a locked cage when Dr. Apt discussed his process with a group of students and prepared to demonstrate the results via one of his test subjects. However, the process was interrupted when Dr. Apt was called to the office of Dr. Kaffirs, who informed him of the apparent death of Dr. Finger under unrevealed circumstances.

(Plastic Forks#3 (fb) - BTS) - Aware of Finger's survival, Kaffirs told Apt that he had died, hoping to separate him from the project, with which he disagreed.

(Plastic Forks#1 - BTS) - Tormented by thoughts of Dr. Finger, Apt accidentally dosed a pair of chimp subjects with brain implants with merthiolate (an organomercury antimicrobial antiseptic/antifungal) instead of anthromorphine (presumably some opioid/morphine class medication). Apt used flash stimulation of the chimps' pineal glands (already hooked up to electrodes) to override the system and neutralize the drug's effect. The chimps recovered and then attacked Apt.

(Plastic Forks#1 (fb) - BTS / (Plastic Forks#5 (fb) - BTS) - While Apt only received some scratches, he was either knocked out or passed out, and the surviving Dr. Finger arranged the removal Apt's gonads and genitals and implantation with an electro-pinealator.

(Plastic Forks#3 (fb) - BTS) - Meanwhile, Finger's agents apparently abducted Apt's pregnant wife, Ellen, and burned down their house. Ellen was taken to the Megan Institute.

(Plastic Forks#1 - BTS) - Upon his recovery, Apt was told that the chimps had torn off his gonads and genitals, and he eventually discovered the presence of the electro-pinealator. Apt escaped the facility but subsequently collapsed and was picked up by someone.

george-chimp-23199-pf4-silhouettegeorge-chimp-23199-pf4-pinealator(Plastic Forks#2 - BTS) - Apt stole a taxi and escaped, after which Dr. Finger's agents located and shot him, only for Lt. Angel Fishbone -- who was flying over in his airplane and saw Apt under attack to shoot them from his airplane and take custody of Apt. However, when they took Angel's plane to seek out Apt's pregnant wife, Ellen, they found her house burned down. At some point, Apt realized Dr. Finger was alive and responsible for his predicament and had likely abducted his wife.

(Plastic Forks#3 - BTS) - Finger's agents captured Apt and brought him to Mount Christian Hospital, where Finger planned to complete the process he had started. Based on Apt's suspicion that Ellen had been taken to the Megan Institute, Angel piloted his hot air balloon -- as his plane had apparently been destroyed in the assault that captured -- toward the Megan Institute to rescue her.

Dr. Kaffirs was deeply disturbed upon learning that Finger intended to use the process of Apt's unborn child.

(Plastic Forks#4 - BTS) - Dr. Kaffirs resolved to save Ellen and the Apt's unborn child, although he was too slow in climbing the many flights of stairs and only arrived after the infant had been delivered and taken to the Mount Christian Hospital by Dr. Finger.

Angel arrived at the Megan Institute and tethered his balloon with a grappling hook, breaking its mechanism in the process, after which he loaded the facility with bombs.

Angel encountered Kaffirs and Ellen Apt, who discovered their mutual goals. Kaffirs had Angel take Ellen and flee in the air balloon, severing the locked grappling mechanism. Angel told Kaffirs to have Henry ready to meet them on the roof of Mount Christian Hospital at the next sunrise.

(Plastic Forks#4) - Kaffirs let George out of his cage, telling him it was time for them to leave, noting that he didn't think Henry would want him staying there, as well as that he could use the company. Kaffirs led George to the garage, put him in the passenger's seat, and drove a car through the locked gate to escape before Angel's bombs destroyed the Megan Institute.

(Plastic Forks#4 - BTS) - Dr. Finger showed the mutated Henry Apt his newly born and noted his plans to do the procedure on him, as well.

(Plastic Forks#5) - Kaffirs and George arrived at the Mount Christian Hospital via car, where George remained while Kaffirs fatally shot the security guard to prevent him from alerting Dr. Finger. george-chimp-23199-pf5-smile

(Plastic Forks#5 - BTS) - Meanwhile, Henry escaped from custody.

(Plastic Forks#5) - Kaffirs subsequently sent George to find Henry Apt, and Kaffirs struggled to keep up with the swiftly moving George.

(Plastic Forks#5 - BTS) - Pausing to catch his breath, Kaffirs discovered the Apt baby, slew those who were preparing the baby for surgery and took custody of the infant.

(Plastic Forks#5) - Henry was pleasantly surprised to encounter George, and he realized that Kaffirs had to have brought him there. Henry then had George lead him to Kaffirs, who showed him his son and instructed him to be on roof at sunrise to meet Angel, who had Ellen.

(Plastic Forks#5 - BTS) - Kaffirs was subsequently slain by Finger's men.

(Plastic Forks#5) - George led Henry to a quiet room to assemble Angel's ultimate weapon, although George also encountered doctors who revealed to him that the chimp attack had only left scratches on the neck but that the doctors under Finger's direction had amputated his genitalia and gonads. After slaying those doctors with the weapon, Henry brought George to the roof, where they encountered Fingers as he prepared to flee.

After Henry destroyed the helicopter with which Finger had intended to flee, he put his son in a pack on George's back and told him to jump on the balloon as it passed by. Although unable to stop without a grappling hook, Angel dropped the ladder as he passed by, and George successfully caught the ladder and climbed into the basket, where he gave Ellen her son.

As Angel's balloon continued to drift away, Henry used the weapon to destroy Dr. Finger, himself and the entire Mount Christian Hospital.

Comments: Created by Ted McKeever as part of the creator-owned Epic Comics imprint.

George was referred to as a chimpanzee, but he was pretty small for that. Chimps are close to 5' tall and weighing between like 90-150 lbs.
He may just be a bit small...I don't think his arms were long enough to be a gibbon (which can be significantly smaller) or something like that, and he's bigger than most monkeys and lacking a tail.
I'm not an expert in primates, but you can look up more about them if you wish...

As discussed in #3 and in interviews, the title "Plastic Forks" was used as a reference to humans being considered disposable, like plastic forks.

This series was weird and hard to tell exactly what was happening sometimes, but it was overall enjoyable.

Earth-23199 Scientists Henry Apt and Albert Finger developed a system amputating genitalia and allowing self-fertilization via Electro-Pinealator implants that ultimately triggered monstrous mutation. Plastic Forks #1 (1990)
