History:

(Scarlet Witch IV#1 (fb) - BTS) - Alaina's son was a mutant. When Orchis seized control over the U.S. mutant populace, he was killed. As he'd been unable to obtain insurance because mutants were looked down on and even mortuaries were reluctant to accept him for burial, Alaina ran through all of her financial savings. With little left to live on, Alaina found the most valuable item she had left was a charm. She took it to a pawn shop but the owner said it was worthless.

(Scarlet Witch IV#1) - Hoping the charm might have some mystical value, Alaina went to the Emporium, where Mantor the Magician appraised the item. He immediately realized the charm was worthless but used his magic to transmute it into bulk iridium, leaving her with a vast amount of money. Alaina thanked the Emporium's owner the Scarlet Witch as she left the shop.

When Lotkill was overrun by mystical Endling creatures, Mantor placed protective shielding around the Emporium and brought in bystanders including Alaina to hide inside. She was impressed when he transmuted some of the Endlings into salt. Much her horror, soon after Mantor was killed by one of the Endlings.

Comments: Created by Steve Orlando and Jacopo Camagni.

Alaina was named in homage of Al Gabriele, creator of Mantor. Note that Mantor calls her "Al."
