History: (Daily Bugle#2 (fb) / Daily Bugle#3 (fb)) - Brothers Tommy and Jimmy Fude were in the restaurant business together; Jimmy was the visionary, and Tommy was just the businessman. They opened up the Food Factory, a small diner, but fudetommydb2it wasn't succeeding. Wanting to fulfill Jimmy's dream, Tommy got into business with gangster Morgan Hall; with his help, the Food Factory expanded from a backstreet kitchen into a chain of fifteen restaurants in a year. However, Hall also used the chain to launder his dirty money, and when Jimmy found out, he wanted nothing to do with criminals.

(Daily Bugle#1) -The Food Factory ran an extensive ad campaign in the Daily Bugle, which included a "puff piece" on the chain. Reporter Betty Brant was sent to the Food Factory's flagship to interview Tommy; however, during their interview, Jimmy loudly argued with one of Hall's men in the kitchen, forcing Tommy to intervene. Tommy learned that Jimmy planned to meet with Brant later, and he informed Hall; his men were only supposed to frighten Jimmy, but they killed him.

(Daily Bugle#3 (fb)) - Hall gave Fude a deadline to hand over the accounts Jimmy had taken.

(Daily Bugle#2) - Brant came to visit Tommy at the Food Factory the next day; when she explained that she'd been there when his brother was killed, he invited her into the closed restaurant. He explained the history of the restaurant to her, but couldn't tell her why Jimmy had wanted to meet with her. She left, and Tommy spoke with Hall, who had been listening in on the whole conversation. Suspecting she might know more than she was letting on, Fude ransacked Brant's apartment, then kidnapped her when she returned.

(Daily Bugle#3) - A distraught Tommy held Brant at gunpoint at the Food Factory, and he explained how he was in business with Hall. He claimed that Hall's men were only supposed to frighten Jimmy, not kill him - even as he fired the revolver right into Jimmy's picture on the wall. He demanded that Brant hand over the accounts, but she had no idea what he was talking about. Tommy soon caught fellow Bugle reporter Charlie Snow sneaking around, and he took Snow hostage, as well.

Finally, Hall called Tommy; having been threatened with exposure by Bugle reporter Ben Urich, Hall told Fude that their business arrangement was over. Fude shot the phone, then sent Snow out of the restaurant, where the police had gathered. Brant tried to convince him to testify against Hall, but he told her that it was "too late for that," and "too late for all of us." After telling her to close her eyes, he shot himself.

The Daily Bugle series was an interesting experiment in black-and-white comics from Marvel. It's worth checking out in the back-issue bins or on Marvel Unlimited. Because of its black-and-white nature, naturally, we don't know Fude's fair or eye color.

There's a running gag about how the Food Factory's food isn't any good; even the coffee and orange juice taste terrible.
