History:
(Dazzler I#10 (fb) - BTS) - The past of this race is unrevealed, beyond the facts that they lived in peaceful and had rulers, and that Galactus considered their name and location to be inconsequential.
(Dazzler I#10 (fb)) - After a short time (perhaps a few or several months, see comments), Terrax the Tamer, who then served as the herald of Galactus, searching countless planets for ones that may be suitable for consumption by his master, succumbed to his former empire-lust and sought to claim a planet for his own.
Via his Galactus-granted power cosmic, Terrax easily overthrew the rulers of this peaceful world and puts its inhabitants to the most arduous labors.
They built him great cites, great
weapons and great temples, with Terrax as their only deity.
Those who survived the labors of
rebuilding their world became fodder for the armies of what Terrax saw
as the beginnings of a vast inter-galactic Empire.
(Dazzler I#10 (fb) - BTS) - Aware of Terrax's actions, Galactus sent a telepathic bolt to remind him "where his destiny truly lay."
Galactus demanded Terrax return to
him at once, and Terrax agreed but then instead fled into a black hole,
into which Galactus dared not follow.
(Dazzler I#10 - BTS) - Galactus enlisted and temporarily empowered the human mutant, singer and reluctant heroine Dazzler (Alison Blaire) to recover Terrax.
Comments: Created by Danny Fingeroth and Frank Springer.
Prior to this story, Terrax (empowered by Galactus just two issues earlier) had been defeated by the Fantastic Four. Obviously he adopted the role of Galactus' herald before succumbing to his "former empire-lust" and conquering this world. His last previous appearance was in Fantastic Four I#213 (December, 1979). Two years in real time would equate to perhaps 4-10 months in Marvel Time, so that should be the time frame in which Terrax was active as a herald and then went rogue. I think by this time, Galactus was feeding on a planet a month, so he couldn't have been away from Galactus for too long. Perhaps he departed this world to do his duties to avoid conflict with Galactus, at least initially, and then returned to see his will carried out.
It would be nice to have a name
for the race and learn more about them. Presumably after Terrax fled
and abandoned them, they were able to restore something of their
previous society. I'd like to learn more about them.
This profile was completed 8/11/2026, but its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 25th anniversary event to represent Terrax's stories and characters.
