History:
(Spider-Man India#2 (fb) - BTS) - The future Doctor Octopus was an unidentified scholar and expert in ancient Indian studies, both historical and mythological, working for industrialist Nalin Oberoi. When Oberoi, unknown to the doctor, was possessed by a Rakshasa intent on helping demon-kind return from extradimensional exile and retake control of the world from humanity, he learned that student Pavitr Prabhakar would be a barrier to this goal, somehow having become the superhuman Spider-Man, so Oberoi instructed the doctor to investigate the lad.

(Spider-Man India#2) - The doctor visited Oberoi's office to deliver his findings, which amounted to little beyond the mundane, showing nothing that suggested Pavitr was anything out of the ordinary. Having delivered his report the doctor nervously asked his employer if that was everything he needed, stating he had other projects he should get working on, but Oberoi told him he had a very special job for him.

(Spider-Man India#2 - BTS) - Oberoi enabled a demon to possess the doctor's body, transforming the unfortunate man into a six-armed monster, and sent him to attack Pavitr.

(Spider-Man India#3 (fb) - BTS) - Though demonic in form and influenced by the demon inside him, the original man's personality remained somewhat in control. Oberoi promised to turn him back into a human once he killed Pavitr.

(Spider-Man India#2) - The doctor found Pavitr playing a game of cricket at his school after hours and attacked.

(Spider-Man India#3) - As the crowds panicked at the sight of the monster and began fleeing, the demon began hurling cars in Pavitr's general direction, calling for the "little spider" to come out and announcing "the doctor is in." Pavitr ran into the empty school and changed into Spider-Man, closely pursued by the monster. The pair battled, with Spider-Man's agility allowing him to dodge most, but not all, of the doctor's many arms. Eventually though the demon managed to grab Spider-Man by the throat, nearly choking him unconscious. Taunting the demon, Spider-Man dubbed him Doctor Octopus, a name his assailant disliked, then sprayed webbing in his eyes, causing Doctor Octopus to let go while he tried to remove it. Leaping backwards, Spider-Man hit the wall behind Octopus with several strands of webbing, then yanked hard, collapsing the edifice on top of his opponent. Octopus was pinned half buried under the rubble, but before Spider-Man could finish him off the hero had to divert to protect some bystanders from another piece of the wall that was just about to collapse. Stuck bracing it up, Spider-Man was unable to stop Octopus as he threw off the debris. Whether injured or perhaps some remnant of humanity making him decide not to attack Spider-Man while the hero was preventing injury to innocents, Octopus threatened to get him nest time, and fled. He returned to Oberoi's offices, where the businessman was watching videos of the recent fight.

(Spider-Man India#3 - BTS) - He hid in the offices for a while as Oberoi conducted business with his board.

(Spider-Man India#3) -  Following the board meeting Oberoi spared the doctor some time. Octopus tried asking about being returned to humanity, but Oberoi put him off, and transformed into his Rakshasa form.

(Spider-Man India#3 - BTS) - Oberoi kidnapped Pavitr's Aunt Maya...

(Spider-Man India#4 (fb) - BTS) - and his girlfriend Meera Jain, and took them to an Oberoi Corporation refinery sitting in Mumbai Harbor, where he was joined by Doctor Octopus.

(Spider-Man India#4) - As Oberoi opened a portal transforming the refinery in Hellish way and beginning to unleash the Rakshasa, Octopus queried what use the demons would have for the two possessed humans once they were free. Oberoi laughed at this and told the doctor he'd not learned, then added that he'd served the purpose, and as the doctor pleaded that he just wished to have his humanity back Oberoi blasted him in the face with hellfire, launching him far off the platform to crash screaming into the sea below.

Spider-Man soon reached the platform, but Oberoi was waiting, dangling his two hostages off the edge. As soon as Spider-Man saw him, Oberoi dropped them both, deliberately tormenting the hero with the dilemma over which he would try to save. Diving down, Spider-Man grabbed Maya and tried to snag Meera with webbing, but missed. For a moment it looked like Meera was going to fall into the hellfire under the platform, but then Doctor Octopus caught her. Handing Meera to Pavitr, he declared that this ended now, and confronted Oberoi, angrily reminding him about all the innocents he would doom by unleashing the Rakshasa horde, including his own son Hari. Unrepentant, Oberoi said they could all burn, and he would gladly light the flame, then he incinerated Doctor Octopus, burning the flesh off his skull. Standing on his smouldering corpse, Oberoi turned to face Spider-Man.

His civilian name isn't mentioned in the story. Since other characters had common Indian names that were roughly similar to their American counterparts I did a Google search for names similar to Otto Octavius. No idea how accurate the results were, but for what it's worth, that got me Ottakoothan Ashtaputre. Maybe some actual Indian people out there can corroborate or refute how reasonable that would be, or suggest better options?

There are few decent images to try and estimate his height, but he does appear somewhat short and slightly overweight, even before bulking up as a demon, and he doesn't seem too much different in height from Pavitr (5'5" at the time).

This profile was completed on 09/28/2026, but its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 25th anniversary's celebratory event to represent Spider-Man India.
