History:
(Battlestar Galactica I#17 (fb) - BTS) - Hailing from the planet Caprica, one of the Twelve Colonies of ancient Kobol, in his youth Enoch was one of the best pilots in the Colonial Fleet, his habit of taking a victory roll in his Viper spacefighter following each battle become his characteristic move. Even after age slowed his reflexes and forced him to retire from combat duty his techniques were studied on training videos by the pilots who followed him.

Also adept at the sciences, Enoch reinvented himself as a top notch biologist. When the cyborg aliens known as the Cylons launched a surprise attack on the Twelve Colonies the now Doctor Enoch was one of the comparatively small number of survivors who escaped on a rag-tag fleet of spaceships led and defended by the Battlestar Galactica. With their homeworlds devastated and not safe to return to, the fleet set off across space hunting for the lost, and some believed mythological, thirteen colony known as Earth, but the Cylons continued to pursue and intermittently attack them.

(Battlestar Galactica TV series, E08 - BTS) - Two of the fleet's three Agro Ships which carried gigantic geodesic domes housing gardens where most of the fleet's food was grown were destroyed in a Cylon assault.

(Battlestar Galactica I#17) - With food running low to the point where the fleet was on the verge of famine, when the fleet neared a compatible planet verdant with vegetation, Galactica's commanding officer Adama sent Doctor Enoch accompanied by current top pilot Apollo (Adama's son) to locate new food sources. They gathered several fruit samples before Enoch stumbled across some human skeletons. Recalling that years before the Cylon invasion Caprica had sponsored an expedition to an uncharted jungle planet only to never hear from it again, Enoch hypothesized that they might have just discovered what had happened to that lost mission. With the temperature beginning to drop as dusk approached Apollo suggested to Enoch that they head back to Galactica for the night, but before they could do so an alien carnivore dropped onto Apollo from a nearby tree. Knocked to the ground Apollo dropped his gun, and desperately shouted to Enoch to shoot the beast before its large jaws bit into him, but a startled Enoch hesitated. Luckily for Apollo the creature was stunned by a rock thrown by a group of large red simians that emerged in a run from the jungle. Enoch noted that the hominid tribe had saved Apollo's life, but Apollo realized the newcomers had hostile attentions towards the human interlopers too, and stunned the closest one unconscious with his blaster. Scared, the rest scattered into the jungle, leaving their fallen comrade behind. On Enoch's instructions the captured simian was restrained and loaded onto their shuttlecraft to be taken back to the Galactica for study.

Back in his lab on the Galactica Enoch chastised himself for failing to help Apollo when the carnivore had attacked, recalling his past combat glories and blaming his inaction on getting too old. Examining some of the fruit they had brought back he was surprised to learn it seemed to be nutritionally perfect, packed with vitamins and minerals, but also containing loose amino chains that didn't connect to any proteins. Believing that last should be impossible, he instructed the computer to carry out a full analysis, and while waiting for the result turned to examine the captive ape instead. Enoch noted that from what he had seen of the planet's flora and fauna the simian couldn't be native to that world, before being momentarily distracted by a smell which he felt might indicate that the fruit was already beginning to rot. Returning his attention to the beast, Enoch analyzed its DNA patterns in an attempt to ascertain its origins, and was shocked to see that the readings indicated that the creature had the DNA structure of a human, differentiated only by a few vagrant proteins in the cell nuclei... just like the loose amino acids in the fruit. By this point the stench the fruit was giving off had become increasingly disgusting, prompting him to head over to it intending to swiftly dispose of the sample. However, as he picked it up he found the smell suddenly made him desperately hungry, and unable to resist he devoured the fruit.

Immediately he felt like he was burning up, and within a few short seconds his body grew larger and more apelike, his uniform ripping apart as he transformed into a scarlet simian like those he and Apollo had seen on the jungle planet. The now monstrous Enoch glanced across at his computer screen, where the results of the fruit analysis had just been displayed, and saw that the amino chains had been identified as a proto-virus that attacked cellular DNA, with an accompanying warning that the fruit was dangerous and should not be eaten. Enraged that the warning had come too late Enoch smashed the computer, unintentionally also destroying the only device that carried information that might warn others about the dangers of the fruit or what had happened to him. Then Enoch paused, wondering why he was so angry when his new form had restored the lost vitality of his youth, leaving him stronger and more powerful than ever before.

Flushed with power, Enoch left his lab, and was almost immediately spotted by Lieutenant Boomer, another of the Galactica's Viper pilots. Understandably assuming that Enoch's ape captive had escaped, Boomer went for his blaster but Enoch struck him unconscious before Boomer could finish drawing it from its holster. Enoch was about to finish Boomer off in order to keep his condition a secret when he was spotted by Flight Sergeant Jolly. Reasoning that Boomer's death would be pointless now, Enoch dodged Jolly's blaster fire and fled on a stolen rocket sled towards the launch bays. While Jolly raised the alert, Enoch overpowered the crewmen in Launch Bay Alpha and fled the Galactica in a stolen Viper, his departure witnessed by a pursuing Boomer and Jolly, both of whom were stunned to see what they had assumed to be a mindless beast piloting an advanced spaceship.

Out in space between Galactica and the alien world Apollo had been training three female pilots, Saphire, Athena and Cassiopeia; with Apollo having left the others temporarily in order to play the role of their opponent in practice combat, the trainees encountered Enoch. With their ships armed only with dummy ammunition for their practice combat, the highly experienced Enoch easily disabled all three vessels, forcing them to make emergency landings on the planet below. Jubilant, Enoch took his characteristic victory roll before following them down. Witnessing this from afar Apollo was sure he recognized the hostile pilot's flying style; learning from the Galactica that they had discovered and disposed of the ape creature Apollo and Enoch had brought on board, Apollo remembered the training videos and realized Enoch had been piloting the stolen Viper. Worried for the female pilots' safety, he headed down to the planet. Meanwhile on the alien world the Enoch creature confronted the three stranded women, announcing that they would never return to the Galactica, but instead would willingly join him staying on this world, his now and forever.

(Battlestar Galactica I#18 (fb)) - Proving able to command the ape-creatures, Enoch used them to swiftly capture all three women and tied them up, intending to feed them the same transformative fruit he had eaten, unaware all of this was being witnessed by Apollo, who hid in the trees until the other ape-creatures departed, leaving Enoch alone with his captives.

(Battlestar Galactica I#18) - With his captives still unaware of his true identity, Enoch ranted how they were his, that the rest of the fleet would follow, and that Adama would not be able to stop him. When Athena expressed confusion at his ability to speak, Enoch proclaimed that he was not an animal, but rather more than human, and tried to convince her to eat some of the fruit. She refused, but Enoch remained confident that it would not be long before the smell of the ripened fruit would compel his prisoners to eat, adding megalomaniacly that they and the rest of humanity would recognize him as their deliverer and proclaim him their lord. Moments later though his rant was interrupted by Apollo, who despite having no weapons launched a surprise attack on the ape-man. The three captives were worried that Apollo would be ripped apart, but Apollo dodged Enoch's blows, correctly reasoning that Enoch wanted to keep him alive in order to have him transform too. Apollo appealed to Enoch to surrender and let them try to find a cure, but Enoch was unrepentant even though Apollo had worked out who he really was, announcing that he had chosen this form, strong, healthy and quick, over his former weak and old body. Enoch let out a cry, summoning more ape-beasts, but as they began to surround Apollo a new Viper piloted by Boomer flew overhead, scaring some of the new arrivals away. Enoch ordered the remaining ape-beasts to bind Apollo until he could succumb to the lure of the fruit, but the creatures took note of the landing Viper and instead fled back into the jungle. With the imminent arrival of a blaster-wielding Boomer and believing it was only a matter of time before those on Galactica succumbed to the fruit left in his lab, Enoch decided to retreat, temporarily blinding Apollo by squeezing an unripened fruit in order to squirt its juices into Apollo's eyes.

Boomer and Apollo untied the captives, and while Apollo left Boomer to return the women to Galactica he went after Enoch, unwilling to give up on him just yet. However, when he caught up with Enoch the ape-beast's slurred speech made it clear that the once-great scientific mind was fading, leaving behind only an animal. Cornered by a cliff, Enoch leapt for Apollo, but was driven back by a blaster shot. Staggering backwards, his mind momentarily clearing so he could reason again if just a little, Enoch unwittingly stepped off the cliff and plummeted to his death, screaming desperately for Apollo's help as he fell. Climbing down, Apollo found Enoch clinging to life, his body irrevocably smashed, but his mind clearing. The dying Enoch apologized to Apollo, telling him that death was the only cure for his condition, and warning him of the fruit back on Galactica. Even as he was doing this, back on the Battlestar Athena and Boomer were destroying the fruit, just in time to prevent Adama falling victim to it. On the planet Enoch died cradled in Apollo's arms, his final words explaining that the one good outcome of his transformation was that he had been able to pilot a Viper through space again, and an appeal that Apollo convince the fleet to not settle on this world but instead continue through the stars. With his death Enoch's body transformed back into human form, and Apollo carried his corpse back to his Viper, presumably so his remains could return to the stars he loved.

In case anyone fails to figure it out, though it's never explicitly stated it's clear that the apes that Enoch and Apollo encountered on the alien world were members of the lost Caprican expedition mutated just as Enoch was, or possibly the descendants thereof.
