First Appearance: Fantastic Four II#2 (December, 1996)

Powers/Abilities: As a member of the Homo mermanus species, Dorma was physiologically adapted to life beneath the ocean. Concealed gills extracted oxygen from water, while her body could withstand the cold, darkness and immense pressures of the deep sea. She possessed superhuman strength, durability and stamina compared to a surface human, and could swim at high speeds and see effectively underwater. Dorma was strong enough to scale a waterfall. She had an unexplained connection to the water, sensing changes in the tides. Like other full-blooded Atlanteans, she could not survive indefinitely away from water; dehydration progressively weakened her and prolonged separation from water was ultimately fatal. Dorma wore armor that generated an environmental field allowing her to survive on the surface indefinitely. Dorma was a skilled swordswoman, military commander and ruler. She was experienced in leading Atlan troops and operating Atlantean weapons and technology, and as empress had access to Atlantis' military resources, including advanced weaponry and various sea creatures.

History:

(Fantastic Four II#2 (fb - BTS) - Dorma was the lover of Atlantis' ruler Namor and a fierce warrior in her own right. In recent times, Namor had grown evermore morose and withdrawn, refusing to see any of his subjects. Dorma made sure no one came in to see him.

(Fantastic Four II#2) - Dorma tried to prevent warlord Krang from entering the throne room to meet Namor. Their argument was cut short when his ally Orthus rushed in with the gravely ill Reva who was supposedly suffering from the pollution caused by the surface world. Her condition helped drive an enraged Namor into launching an Atlantean attack on New York City, with Dorma at his side in her warrior gear..

(Fantastic Four II#3) - When Namor collapsed during the battle, Dorma accompanied Mister Fantastic and the Invisible Woman as they carried him to a surface hospital. Reed Richards determined that Namor had been poisoned with a toxin produced by a deadly sea wasp, exposing Krang's deception and the true cause behind Reva's illness. After Krang was defeated and arrested, Dorma returned to Atlantis with Namor and their people.

(Heroes Reborn: Ashema I#1 (fb) - BTS) - When Namor and the other heroes returned home and left Counter-Earth, the makeshift world soon descended into chaos (secretly caused by the Apostate). Dorma stepped in to fill the power vacuum, becoming warrior-queen of Atlantis.

(Heroes Reborn: Doomsday I#1 (fb) - BTS) - As a result of a series of cataclysmic global events, the Atlantic coastline decreased in elevation by about 200 feet. As a result, New York City was flooded, the Atlanteans led by Dorma took over most of the city.

(Heroes Reborn: Ashema I#1) - Dorma was approached by Doctor Doom, who managed to convince her it would be in Atlantis' best interest to become his ally. Dorma joined Doom as one of his generals.

(Heroes Reborn: Doom I#1) - Dorma, along with his fellow Generals, Doom and his bodyguard Lancer attacked the Weaponeers of Al-Khalad to halt their invasion of Wakanda. Dorma, wearing a water breathing apparatus, tore into her opponents with all the mercy of blood-crazed shark. Doom and the others stopped the Weaponeers, but not before Wakanda's ruling family was killed. This led Doom to annex the country, telling his Generals that the surviving Arabian Knights could join them if they swore the usual oath of fealty. Dorma initially opposed the idea, feeling the best enemy is a dead one. The argument was interrupted by the attack of Wakanda's surviving crown prince who lunged at Doom with a knife. Instead, Lancer acted and took the teenager down. Impressed, Doom offered the boy his hospitality.

(Heroes Reborn: Doom#1 - BTS) - In the weeks that followed, Doom started work on his plan to save the troubled Counter-Earth. He came up with a way to transport the entire world from its pocket dimension to Earth-616 using a combination of Technarx's transmode technology and Shakti's magics. Doom and the Generals traveled across the world to place massive spires needed to carry out this massive plan.

(Heroes Reborn: Doom I#1 (fb) - BTS) - The Dreaming Celestial knocked out Dorma, forcing her to sleep in her quarters while he replaced her.

(Heroes Reborn: Doom I#1 - BTS) - 'Dorma' called a secret meeting of the general in Shakti's enclave in San Francisco. The Generals discussed their leader Doom, with 'Dorma' feeling that since they were all monarchs in their own right, Doom shouldn't be allowed to rule over them. Dorma proposed to put Doom in his proper place and then split the world up to rule between the four of them. While Technarx, Shakti and Divinity focused on taking out Doom's bodyguard Lancer, the Dreaming Celestial tried to seduce Doom as Dorma. However, Victor von Doom wasn't fooled by the entity and saw through its disguise. Playing along, Doom had the Celestial Ashema don a makeshift copy of his armor and sent her out to meet with 'Dorma'. In the end, the energy generated by the two Celestials fighting powered Doom's dimensional pylons. Properly powered, the pylons created a sidereal transmat field that shifted Counter-Earth from its pocket dimension to Earth-616.

(Heroes Reborn: Doom I#1) - Only after Counter-Earth's dimensional shift did the real Dorma wake up from her slumber, stunned to learn what had happened while she was out.

(Fantastic Four III#25 (fb) - BTS) - Doom and his Generals boarded a giant, Doom designed spaceship to fly from Counter-Earth to Earth.

(Fantastic Four III#28 (fb) - BTS) - Dorma brought aboard a small army of Atlan's finest warriors, calling them her Sharks.

(Fantastic Four III#25) - Appearing over New York City, they soon found themselves in conflict with the Fantastic Four and the alternate reality future version of Valeria Richards called Marvel Girl. When the FF refused to leave the ship upon Doom's orders, the Generals attacked. Ben Grimm was reluctant to fight Dorma because she was a woman, which only infuriated her more. The warrior queen was briefly trapped in an invisible forcefield, leaving her open to a direct blow from the Thing. She quickly recovered and was strong enough to break free from Mr. Fantastic's elastic grasp. She was ultimately taken out when Thing threw Technarx on top of her. Furious she might get infected with his transmode virus, Dorma attacked her ally instead. The fight between the two teams was interrupted when the Dreaming Celestial resumed its attack on Doom and the ship. Briefly teaming up, the FF, Doom and his Generals headed to the Keewazi reservation where the underground vault was located that the Celestial had been trapped in since the Fourth Host. As they made their way inside, the Celestial defenses quickly took out Technarx and the other heroes and villains until only Doom and Mr. Fantastic were left. They freed Ashema who made sure the Dreaming Celestial met its fate. In the aftermath, only Doom seemed to have survived.

(Fantastic Four III#26) - Dorma's aggressive temperament was displayed in a virtual combat simulation in which she killed the simulated Invisible Woman and the other members of the FF. Her fellow Generals were not impressed, feeling she had grown obsessed with Sue Richards and was losing the proper perspective. Later, Dorma found the Fantastic Four free of their inhibitor collars, taking this as proof that "Doctor Doom" had grown weak. She led the generals in a genuine challenge for his position. The man in Doom's armor (actually Reed Richards) defeated all the generals singlehandedly, using Doom's advanced armor to shut down Dorma's environmental field which caused her to pass out. Dorma acknowledged his victory but insisted that, if he intended to ally himself with the Fantastic Four, he should take the Invisible Woman as his consort. Her demand led directly to the announcement of their marriage.

(Fantastic Four III#27) - Dorma remained with the other generals while the public ceremony she had demanded was carried out, with the Invisible Woman presented as the Baroness von Doom. Dorma, however, was convinced that Doom would quickly tire of his new bride.

(Fantastic Four III#28) - Dorma prepared her Atlan troops for an invasion of Earth and privately hoped to eliminate the Invisible Woman and replace her as Doom's consort. Unwilling to wait for Doom's orders, Dorma joined the other generals in initiating their own attack. When the Fantastic Four intervened, the Human Torch dehydrated Dorma enough for the Invisible Woman to knock her unconscious. Dorma and the other rebellious generals were shackled and turned over to the Avengers.

(Fantastic Four Annual 2000) - Dorma escaped confinement with the other generals and arrived at Pier Four with her Atlan soldiers. She offered the Fantastic Four an alliance against Doctor Doom, proposing that they help her overthrow him and conquer Counter-Earth. When they refused, Dorma attacked the Invisible Woman. After another defeat, Dorma concluded that the Fantastic Four's greatest advantage was their willingness to operate as a team. She and the generals therefore attacked separate parts of New York to divide them. Dorma used the distraction to seize Pier Four and force Reed Richards to construct a portal that she believed would return them to Counter-Earth. Shakti, Divinity and Technarx entered first. Dorma realized before following them that Reed had set a trap, smashed through the floor and escaped with her Atlan troops, abandoning the return attempt and declaring that she would conquer Earth instead.

(Fantastic Four III#32) - Dorma remained on Earth with a force of Atlan soldiers. Her warriors harpooned Namor while he was helping the Invisible Woman beneath the Pacific Ocean, and Dorma led the pursuit. When Namor saw her, he was shocked by her resemblance to the late Dorma of his own world. Dorma fought the Invisible Woman and, with the aid of her troops, subdued her. She was preparing to execute Sue when Namor recovered and attacked. Namor defeated Dorma in personal combat and nearly killed her with her own sword before Sue stopped him. Dorma was turned over to the Fantastic Four to face justice.

(Exiles I#81 (fb) - BTS) - Through unrevealed circumstances, Dorma was returned to Counter-Earth where she once again ruled Atlantis. She began accumulating a nuclear arsenal and falsely offered an alliance to surface refugees gathered around the floating city of Attilan while her forces prepared a missile strike against them.

(Exiles I#81 - BTS) - The dimension-hopping energy vampire Proteus arrived on Counter-Earth while on the run from the Exiles. He discovered the plan and prevented the first launch before Dorma personally entered the conflict.

(Exiles I#82) - Dorma entered Atlantis' nuclear armory with her imperial guard and confronted Proteus, angrily blaming him for ruining her first strike against Attilan. She declared that the surviving surface dwellers would eventually submit to her crown. Proteus responded by reality-warping Atlantis upward until it emerged above the ocean. He trapped Dorma and her people partly within the city's structures so they could not return to the water. Unable to breathe air indefinitely, Dorma and the Atlanteans died of suffocation.

(Exiles I#82 - BTS) - Proteus took Dorma's crown and left her dead, rotting corpse hanging on the wall of the building containing the nuclear stockpile. He mockingly promised her he would carry out her mission.

(Exiles I#82) - Dorma's lifeless body was spotted by the Exiles when they came to Atlantis for a final confrontation against Proteus.

This Dorma is, of course, based on the original Earth-616 Lady Dorma who was little more than a (sea)wallflower. By the time Chris Claremont came around, her Counter-Earth version was portrayed as a truly fearless, bloodthirsty warrior which is an interesting twist on an otherwise pretty bland character. However, during the original Heroes Reborn, she was already seen as an active part of Atlantis' military, so the seeds were already sown.

As it is, Counter-Earth Dorma was a bit of a red herring, no pun intended. But seeing her so callously dismissed in Exiles was still properly chilling.

Dorma was included in the Doctor Doom's Generals profile in Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A-Z I#3.
