History:
(Fearless Defenders#5 (fb) - BTS) - Not
content to worshipped only in northern Europe, the Asgardian gods
dispatched messengers to bring word of their glory to all corners of
Midgard (Earth).
In one of the most remote places in the world, the people of the villages at the foothills of the mountain in Brazil came to regard Odin, Thor and Loki. Descanso de Deus was arena atop that mountain, holy ground where games were held in those gods honor. Immense statues of the heads of the gods were carved on the mountain top's periphery.
(Fearless Defenders#4 - BTS / Fearless Defenders#5) - To lure the Doom Maidens -- evil undead warrior women who had preceded the Valkyrior as Odin's Shield Maidens of whom Brunnhilde had been a member, and who would track and pursue her -- to a remote location where innocents would spared, Brunnhilde brought Hippolyta and Moonstar with her to Descanso de Deus while Misty Knight gathered a group of women warriors to aid them.
(Fearless
Defenders#5) - Shortly after Brunnhilde detailed the
arena's origins, the Doom Maidens -- Alvdi,
Arnlief, Balda,
Daggaerdh, Disthora,
Hermotha, Nedra and Sigotta -- arrived with Caroline Le Fay and Mr. Raven.
Hippolyta
uprooted one of the stone god heads and hurled it at the Doom Maidens,
bringing one of the dragons bearing them. As the battle was engaged,
Brunnhilde's forces seemed greatly outnumbered until Misty Knight
arrived with reinforcements: Black Cat, Black Widow, Captain Marvel,
Elektra, Hellcat,Annabelle Riggs, She-Hulk, Spider-Woman, Storm,
Tarantula, Thundra, Tigra and Colleen Wing.
Nonetheless apparently fearing that even the
gathered heroes could not defeat the Doom Maidens, Brunnhilde allowed
her Doom Maiden self, as the Maiden of Rage, to emerge.
(Fearless Defenders#6) - After stopping the rest of the Doom Maidens, Brunnhilde turned on her allies. Only Annabelle Riggs was able to talk Brunnhilde down, restoring her benevolent nature, but only after the Maiden of Rage had slain her.
Although Valkyrie subsequently tried to unite her
heroines as Defenders, they all instead departed, frustrated at having
been manipulated by her.
