The left half of Darkphaze's body (not including his head and neck, but including his torso and both limbs) was green-skinned, with a large pincer in place of his left hand.
He carried a blaster apparently able to
disintegrate an adult human.
Darkphaze was completely
egocentric, making demands of others for his benefit and having no
concern for the welfare of others. He was willing to doom his own
daughter to ensure his fate.
History:
(unpublished story (fb) -
BTS) - Darkphaze
considered himself a man of some renown, and to be the "Scourge of
Hellrock" (home of Mutroids), and the "Terror of a Thousands Lands."
(unpublished story (fb) - BTS) - At some point, via an unidentified woman, he fathered a daughter named Calyx; at least in retrospect, he considered the mother to be worthless.
(unpublished story - BTS) - Radian returned to Earth in the mountains of Tibet. A poor family struggling in the cold recognized his power, considering that he must be a very great lama. Hearing of their plight, Radian gifted them with a glowing sphere that granted them light and warmth. A young woman in the family considered that the lamasery was in the valley rather than the mountains and that the being they saw was not a priest, but rather an angel.
Radian continued on to a Y'Lestja
sphere, from which he cleared the snow and stone from it before entering
the sphere, which he considered his sanctum. There he planned to wait
for further alien contact.
(unpublished story)
- Darkphaze of Hellrock, along with his daughter, Calyx,
encountered the
same family Radian had gifted with the light/heat sphere. Speaking
their language, he told them that he had come a long, sought shelter
for himself and his traveling companion and that he would not be
denied.
A young girl asked Calyx if the man was a priest (like
they had
assumed Radian to be), but she just questioned, "A
priest?" (presumably hinting that he was far from anything like
that).
The family asked why they should trust him, and
he asked if they would refuse an old man and a girl a brief respite
from the cold. Thinking that they had neglected to thank the "priest"
who helped them earlier and seeing how the girl was getting along well
with his daughter, the father of the family agreed to help them.
Upon seeing the floating, glowing energy sphere
within their tent, Darkphaze demanded to know what it was, as he had
never before seen anything like it. Noting that it provided both heat
and light without any power source, he stated that it certainly did not
belong to dirt-poor peasants like them.
When the father told him it was
a gift, Darkphaze through open is robes, revealing his half-alien form
and his energy pistol, and he told the father that he would make it a
gift to him. Reminding the family that he would be denied, he
blasted and apparently disintegrated the father.
Towing the energy sphere with him and followed by
Calyx, Darkphaze encountered this Y'Lestja
sphere, and he noted that he
had known this woebegone land had been visited by an alien race.
He
further considered that this dome must hide weapons and war machines of
even greater power than the heat globe. Drawing his pistol, Darkphaze
told Calyx that they would be within and warm in short order.
(unpublished story - BTS) -After a long wait for alien contact, a race of light beings apparently from a sister planet (apparently in relationship to Radian's planet), invited Radian to make a new home on their world, beyond the Milky Way Galaxy. There he would add a new dimension to their spectrum of light, give their world dimension, and share the knowledge he had waited centuries to collect.
(unpublished story) - Darkphaze interrupted this meeting, and he seemed surprised that Radian did not know him but assured that he would soon, if he refused to stand and deliver. He was shocked to see emissaries from a world beyond this one, and Radian advised him of his his alliance with Doom, although Darkphaze was unimpressed.
The alien light beings benevolently offered
transport of Radian, Darkphaze, and Calyx to their world, noting that
with the help of the Y'Lestja, they might restore Radian's lost race on
his former home. However, as the aliens formed a light beam to
transport the trio to the ship that would bring them to their world,
Darkphaze sensed that the light beam was not strong enough to transport
all three of them.
As Calyx struggled to breathe and asked her father for
help, Darkphaze kicked Calyx out of the beam to her
apparent death, telling her she was as weak and useless as her
mother had been.
When Darkphaze tried to grab Radian to sustain his own
transport, an energy backlash cast Darkphaze back out of the beam as
well, and he apparently fell to his death...

You can access the unpublished Radian story here. It was presumably meant for a 2099 Unlimited story that never saw print.
There are a few
pages missing from the story, notably two pages between pg. 17 (where
Darkphaze kicked Calyx away) and 20 (where he tried to grab hold of
Radian). I don't know what, if anything, was supposed to have happened
between those pages.
