History:
(Crossover#1 - BTS) - In an alternate reality far across the Omniverse from Earth-616, and even from its multiverse, there was a version of Earth that had no native superhumans. However on January 11th 2017 a reality bubble containing a futuristic city full of battling superhumans appeared in Denver, Colorado, the resultant shockwave alone instantly destroying the surrounding city. Surviving eye witnesses identified many supposedly fictional superheroes from multiple companies (and thus realities) among the combatants. A few months into the Crossover, as the press dubbed it, one of the supers...

(Crossover#3 (fb) - BTS) - Doctor Blaqk of the Paybacks,...

(Crossover#1 - BTS) - raised a forcefield around the site, containing the worst of the problem. The U.S. government cracked down on any superhumans found outside, and in a move largely supported by the public they banned new superhero comics.

(Crossover#2 - BTS) - While most of the battling supers were inside the Dome when it went up, a good number were trapped outside it. The President appointed Nathaniel Abrams Pendleton the Special Director in for all things relating to "the Event." Under his aegis many of the supers outside the Dome were killed or captured, the latter imprisoned in "research and development testing facilities" around the country, the largest being the Powerhouse, where Spider-Man was among the incarcerated. Even non-superhumans who had arrived in the Crossover were locked away, considered potential threats as they might conceivably develop abilities without warning.

(Crossover#1 - BTS) - This remained the status quo for the next several years.

(Crossover#2 - BTS) - Pendleton's people ran experiments on prisoners from other realities, including the non-superhumans.

(Crossover#4 (fb) - BTS) - One of these was the Amalgam Program, which involved stitching together body parts taken from different superhuman corpses to create composite beings.

(Crossover#4) - Among these was an Amalgam resembling Earth-616's Combo Man.

(Crossover#5 - BTS) - In the hope of triggering an all-out war against the supers a zealously anti-supers religious group blew up the Powerhouse, freeing many of the inmates. The escapees headed for the Dome, hoping to find a way back inside, while the authorities deployed first fighter jets and bombers and then dropped in Amalgams. These in turn were confronted by a loose assemblage of supers, including Madman and the Paybacks,  who had evaded prior capture and had now headed to Colorado to help the escapees. Battle briefly ensued until one of Madman's group, a young girl called Ava Quinn, unleashed recently developed powers that apparently destroyed all the Amalgams.

Comments: Created by Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw.

Strictly speaking this guy isn't Combo Man, as he's never named, but if it looks like a duck...

It'd be nice to believe that the Amalgam program only used the corpses of supers who were killed resisting arrest. However, the scientists would presumably want the freshest bodies to work with if they hoped to reanimate them, #2 showed Spider-Man's costumed hand sticking out of the bars of a Power House cell (and established that many of the captured heroes were cooperative with their captors, since they were heroes and only wanted to get home), and then in #4 the Amalgam that the scientists are shown constructing has Spider-Man's hand too, which does seem to suggest they were dissecting, perhaps even vivisecting, prisoners.

Combo Man isn't seen among the Amalgams in #5, but it seems likely that there's a good chance he was present off-panel.

The Powerhouse (or Power House the first time it is mentioned) is located somewhere mountainous and snowy, but the exact location isn't mentioned as far as I can see.

Because this guy is from a non-Marvel story, and isn't even a native of the world most of it is set in, and his parts could come from more than one reality, we're not going to try and figure out his native reality's numerical designation.

This profile was completed on 08/07/2026, but its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 25th anniversary's celebratory event to represent Combo Man.

CLARIFICATIONS:
Combo Man has no known connections to:

Amalgams

Dozens of Amalgams were constructed from dead supers and later deployed outside Denver's Dome following the Powerhouse escape.

Comments: There are a lot of Amalgams stored in tubes in the panel this image comes from, but none are visible enough to have any hope of identifying whose body parts they include. Of the ones shown here in the foreground, the one on the right seems to have Thanos' head, while the one on the slab being constructed has Spider-Man's hand, and reptilian legs that might come from someone like the Lizard, but I'm not recognizing any of the other component parts. I feel I should be able to recognize the head of the one on the left, given that distinctive mask, but if I do, I'm blanking on the name.

In this panel with Amalgams in the field there are again a lot of body parts that I can't pin down. The female leftmost might have Gamora's head and Klaw's blaster hand. The pink guy above her knee looks like he's got the head and claws of a Wolverine variant, while the guy to his right doing the superhero landing has an arm with chains wrapped round the wrist - given the coloration I think that might be the Pitt's arm, rather than Lobo. The guy perching on the lamppost top left looks to be Gambit, with no one else's body parts in the mix.
