Powers/Abilities: Pete Club is a smart and very resourceful person, proficient with weapons and vehicles, and he is in superior physical form.

History:
(The Long Tomorrow (fb) - BTS) - An Arcturian spy somehow managed to get
past the planet's orbital defense shield and infiltrate the city, a
dense, vertical underground shaft filled with androids, robots, rowdy
bars, assassins and flying cars.
(The Long Tomorrow (fb) - BTS) - Under undisclosed circumstances the President's body was irreparably damaged, but his mistress, Dolly Vook Von Katterbar, managed to save his brain and, for safety, placed it in a strongbox, which she stored in Locker 736 located at a subway station on the 199th level.
(The Long Tomorrow (fb) - BTS) - The authorities used an android duplicate to the hide the President's disappearance.
(The Long Tomorrow) - Dolly asked P.I. Pete Club from Club's Discreet Inquiries, based on the 97th level, to come to her conapt (condominium apartment) located on the wealthy 12th level.
(The Long Tomorrow) - Dolly asked Club to recover some personal effects kept in a strongbox from Locker 736 on the 199th level -- a particularly seedy level.
(The Long Tomorrow) - Club recovered the strongbox but was attacked by two thugs, whom he defeated.
(The Long Tomorrow) - Club returned to Dolly's conapt, but
discovered that the police were already there.
(The Long Tomorrow) - Robot police Lieutenant 3 showed Club Dolly's body. She had been tortured. The Lieutenant told him it was the work of an Arcturian spy looking for the President's brain.
(The Long Tomorrow) - Club went back to his office but was attacked by Arcturian agents, first in a hovercar chase, then on the spaceport where his last opponent was destroyed in a rocket blast.
(The Long Tomorrow) - When Club returned to his office, he opened the strongbox and found the President's brain inside.
(The Long Tomorrow) - A being in Dolly's form then showed
up, claiming to be the real Dolly.
As she and Club made love, Club took a
phone call from Lieutenant 3 who told Club that the woman he was with
was the shapeshifting Arcturian spy. 
The Arcturian reverted to her/his/its natural form and begged Club not to kill him/her/it, but the P.I. apparently slew her anyway.
(The Long Tomorrow) - Club gave the President's brain back
to the authorities and returned to his life.
For Club, this had been just another case.

The story of THE LONG TOMORROW began
with Alejandro Jodorowsky's failed adaption of Frank Herbert's DUNE as a
motion picture in 1973. Amongst the various artists hired by Jodorowsky
were Moebius and Dan O'Bannon. In 1976, the two teamed up to produce THE
LONG TOMORROW. Its setting and characters went on to inspire Jodorowsky
to create THE INCAL
Dan O'Bannon rewrote/retranslated the story for its
publication in the Marvel/Epic volume to be more faithful to his
original intent. Depending on the version, the object of Club's quest is
either the Major's Brain (French version) or the President's Brain (Epic
version). In the French version, Lieutenant 3 is called Lieutenant Py.
THE LONG TOMORROW is noted for its influential visual
design, which inspired the designs of several feature films, including
and especially Blade Runner, and the aesthetics of the cyberpunk
movement.
Where and when does the story take
place?
It does take place in the Milky Way Galaxy galaxy since they mention an Arcturian spy. It's not clear if the story takes place on Earth or a colony but judging from the ancient look of Level 99, I'd say Earth is more likely.
It
takes place in the future...not as far as THE INCAL; they
use rockets powered by fuel. I'd say the future, yes, but closer to us,
in a STAR TREK frame, not a DUNE frame, if you will.
The background of Panel 1, Page 11, of THE LONG
TOMORROW features a robot that later became the Imperial Probe in THE
EMPIRE STRIKES BACK.
