History: (Children of the Vault#2 (fb) - BTS) - Capitán was one of the Children of the Vault, post-humans artificially evolved in a bubble of accelerated time over a hundred thousand years of continuous evolution.

Several Children returned to the Vault from the outside world, where they were trapped by the X-Man Forge in a virtual simulation to believe that their conquest of Earth had already succeeded (mirroring reality-52122). With the news that Krakoa had fallen, the Children disagreed on their future, and some turned to violence. The City, an artificial intelligence in charge of the Vault, deemed the chaos unproductive and produced a new generation of Children to replace them.

(Children of the Vault#2 (fb)) - Two main factions emerged among the Children. Capitán-201 led the Traditionalists who advocated for the immediate destruction of the human race. They were opposed by Elevationists led by Serafina-189 who argued that the Children had evolved beyond simple slaughter and campaigned for more subtle pacification of humanity instead. Surrounded by all Children, Capitán and Serafina debated each other in the center of the City for a generation, until the Elevationists won. Capitán and the Traditionalists accepted the new consensus, and both factions committed mass suicide.

(Children of the Vault#2 (fb) - BTS) - The next generation of Children produced "the Message," a semiotic virus that spread memetically and would eventually transform its hosts into becoming true Children, with a >99% fatality rate. The Children also refashioned their arsenal of weapons into the tools to benefit humanity. The generation that followed after had their appearance and temperaments adjusted to fit the traditional super hero archetypes of the humans. After two hundred years, they finally emerged from the Vault, while mere days had passed on the outside.

(Children of the Vault#1) - Led by Serafina, who now spoke for all of them, Capitán and the other Children revealed their existence to the world. Calling themselves the Children of Tomorrow, they told the simple version of their history and promised to freely share their gifts with humanity. Buildings made from brand-new materials unfolded themselves in the poorest areas of the world, bringing solutions to hunger, disease and injury at the simple cost of spreading the Message: "Become the Future."

The Children also engaged in traditional super heroic activities. Capitán-204 used his size alteration and energy projection powers to stop a tsunami threatening the Philippine Islands.

(Children of the Vault#2) - Alongside Ferro, Serafina, Luz, Prisa, and Átomo, Capitán fought a group of brainwashed backup Superguardians in Nairobi, Negative Zone anti-zealots in Cape Verde, Shuma-Gorath in Mogadishu, and Terrax in New Guinea.

Looking at the world from within the City, Capitán professed his disappointment at the weakness and ignorance of the humans. Serafina disagreed, reigniting their argument, and noted that her plan proceeded and that the Message did its work. Capitán agreed with her, but then the City sounded an alarm as Martillo was being telepathically tortured. Capitán became excited about the opportunity to kill a human super hero.

(Children of the Vault#3) - The mutants Bishop and Cable attacked the City by firing five micro-singularities at it. Ferro, Átomo, and Capitán were dispatched instantly, and while the others dealt with the singularities and the weapon that fired them, Capitán went after the attackers. After blasting them, he recognized the two as mutants and was surprised by their lack of numbers.

The City was then attacked by an army of Orchis Sentinels, tricked by Cable into attacking the City and the Children. Capitán increased his size to engage the Sentinels physically, disappointed at the lack of genuine super heroes to fight. Berating the humans as ungrateful savages, Capitán declared that Serafina had lost her argument. Unleashing his powers against the Sentinels, Capitán smiled for the first time in eight incarnations and called for more foes to fight.

(Children of the Vault#4) - Cable entered the core of the City and held it at gunpoint. Serafina tried talking to him, but Capitán attacked Cable instead. Serafina berated him for interfering, but Capitán was done toying with the humans and began choking Cable. The fighting in the City accelerated the Message to its final stage ahead of schedule, initiating transformation in humans across the world. Bishop arrived and blasted Capitán away from Cable; both Serafina and Capitán told the two mutants that their efforts were pointless and only delaying the inevitable.

Cable then revealed that he had infected the City with a hyper-evolved super-strain of the Techno-Organic Virus. Serafina insisted that the City would fight off the infection, but Bishop added that he had rigged the crèche where the Children were reborn to eradicate both the next generation and their entire genetic library. Capitán insisted that they were bluffing, but Serafina used her technopathic powers to look into Bishop's and Cable's history and realized with horror that they were not.

A deal was struck, and Serafina spoke a carrier phrase that negated the Message, while Cable used his control over the T-O virus to reabsorb it back into his body. Serafina admitted that Capitán was right and that her approach was too forgiving before the Children and City returned to the Vault.

During the Krakoan era, the Children of the Vault were revealed to be the counterparts to Earth-1610 Children of Tomorrow. Beyond them adopting that name for themselves and being evolved over thousands of years in a bubble of accelerated flow of time, the Vault was also revealed to contain a Dome managed by the sentient A.I. called the City, nearly identical in appearance to the City of Earth-1610.

As revealed in X-Men Vol. 5, each of the Children is an evolutionary class improved over subsequent generations. The first three generations were apparently synchronous, but by the time of the Message different classes of Children were on vastly different generations, ranging from 13 to 201. Out of those revealed, Capitán-204 has the highest generational number.

As the physical appearance of the Children changes from one generation to the next, all images and physical descriptions in this profile only apply to Capitán-204, the only incarnation depicted visually to date.
