Powers/Abilities: Calcestry had magical powers which included the ability to conjure up flame. His spirit endured for centuries after the death of his body due to be sealed up inside a box and he seemed to have the ability to shift from an incorporeal to corporeal state after his release.

History:
(Monsters Unleashed I#5/4 (fb) - BTS) - In 13th century Europe, Calcestry was a powerful warlock. When a plague came to the land, Calestry's fellow sorcerers traded in fake cures and slaughtered their own townspeople to "hellish deities." Calcestry tried to stop the other sorcerers but they turned on him, burning him at the stake. As Calcestry died, the sorcerers used a magic box to capture his spirit so they could draw on his spirit's power in the future.
The Devlon family maintained ownership of the box containing Calcestry's spirit. To keep the spirit sealed within the box, they had to perform an incantation every 10 years. By the 20th century, William and Claudia Devlon had inherited the box and chose to continue the practice of entrapping Calcestry's spirit. William and Claudia's daughter Laura was curious about the box but they always cautioned her to never open it.
(Monsters Unleashed I#5/4) - Finally, when she was 18, Laura stole the box and ran from the house, apparently seeking to prevent her parents from performing the incantation. Laura tripped over a rock and dropped the box, which sprung open, releasing Calcestry's spirit. Laura briefly beheld him and saw the skin of his body was scarred from the flames which had killed him.
Calcestry went to the Devlon's home and confronted Claudia Devlon. Realizing Calcestry had come to kill her, Claudia was resigned to her fate. Conjuring up flames, Calcestry burned Claudia to death, simultaneously causing a fire which began to burn down the Devlon home.
William Devlon tried to flee but as he neared a rope bridge on his property, Calcestry appeared before him, demanding to have retribution on the Devlons for what they and their ancestors had done to him. William fled onto the bridge and protested that he hadn't been responsible for Calcestry being burned alive but Calcestry noted that as William had chosen to maintain the incantation that imprisoned him, he'd chosen to uphold his ancestors' traditions. Calcestry burned a mark into William's face as a "brand of guilt."
Laura's friend Daniel Cambridge interceded and tried to save William from Calcestry but Calcestry knocked him aside. Daniel's added weight was too much for the rope bridge which collapsed; while Daniel held on to a rope and survived, William fell on rocks below and died. Seeing William Devlon was dead, Calcestry determined his vengeance had been achieved and his spirit faded into oblivion.

Daniel Cambridge was a reporter who happened to meet Laura Devlon just after she'd accidentally released Calcestry from the box which imprisoned him. Laura explained her family's history of witchcraft to Daniel and he saw the remains of Claudia Devlon after Calcestry burned her to death. Daniel tried to save William Devlon from being killed by Calcestry on a rope bridge but Calcestry knocked him aside; Daniel's weight caused the rope bridge to collapse and although he was able to hold on to one of the ropes, William fell to his death. With Calcestry gone, Daniel took Laura Devlon away with him, telling her there was nothing left there for her.

Claudia Devlon was married to William and was the mother of Laura. Like William, Claudia practiced withcraft and helped him maintain the imprisonment of Calcestry's spirit within a magical box. Claudia warned Laura to never open the box but when Laura accidentally caused it to open, Claudia became resigned to her fate, realizing Calcestry would soon come to kill her. When Calcestry appeared in the Devlon home, Claudia told him she was glad "it's finally ended"; Calcestry burned her to death.

Laura Devlon was the daughter of William and Claudia Devlon. At the age of 8 she learned her parents practised witchcraft. They showed her a portrait of the warlock Calcestry being burned at the stake and indicated the box containing his spirit; although they didn't explain what was inside the box, they warned her to never open it. When she was 18, Laura stole the box and ran from the house, apparently trying to prevent her parents from performing the incantation which would keep Calcestry's spirit incarcerated. Tripping on a rock, Laura dropped the box and it opened. Laura was frightened to see Calcestry briefly manifest before her, then disappear. Daniel Cambridge happened by and assisted Laura back to her house but while she explained her family history to Daniel, Calcestry returned and killed her mother, causing the house to catch fire. Daniel tried to save William from Calcestry but failed. Because Laura hadn't performed the incantations that imprisoned him, she was spared death at Calcestry's hands, but she knew she'd be forever haunted by her parents' deaths. Daniel helped take her away from the scenes of her parents' deaths.

William Devlon was married to Claudia and was the father of Laura. William was descended from the sorcerers who had burned Calcestry to death at the stake in the 12th century and he had become a practitioner of witchcraft himself, choosing to keep Calcestry's spirit incarcerated inside the magical box his ancestors had devised. When Laura accidentally caused Calcestry's spirit to be released, William attempted to flee but Calcestry confronted him near a rope bridge and branded a mark into William's face to punish him. When Laura's friend Daniel Cambridge tried to interceded and help William, he accidentally caused the bridge to collapse and William fell on the rocks below, dying.
