History:
(Adventures into Terror I#3/2) - David Cabot went on a walking tour of northern France. Wandering through the woods of Frontenac country, he was caught in a sudden downpour of rain just as the sun began to set. Desperate for shelter, David spotted a nearby home with lights on and stumbled there. To his surprise, he found a beautiful young woman sitting on the porch. Unable to help himself, he called the woman "beautiful." She replied that he was a "beautiful" man, "so different from the ugly peasants." She said that she liked him but, that for that reason, he should leave her home immediately.

    Before the woman could explain further, her parents stepped out on the porch, asking who she was talking to. She tried to claim there was no one there but her parents could see David in the shadows and invited him into their home. David explained his situation and his hope that they could put him up in their home for the night. The parents sent their daughter to fetch wine then confided to David not to mind what she said because she was "new to our ways." The father claimed his daughter imagined things and had queer fantasies about "werewolves and such."

    The daughter returned and asked David to help her carry the heavy wine jug. Once he stepped outside with her, she told him to fear the "loup-garou... the werewolf" and that werewolves who bit humans could transform them into werewolves. David told her he wasn't afraid, not taking her warning seriously. Seated by the fire with the woman's parents, David started to drowse as they continued to chatter at him about werewolves. Suddenly, just as he was about to fall asleep, David saw the mother and father transform into werewolves!

    As David jumped to his feet, the daughter - also a werewolf- stood between him and her parents, giving him time to spring out of the doors and into the night. David ran from the house into the woods while the rain continued to fall. Unfortunately, he didn't making it very far before stumbling and banging his head against a tree.

    David passed out but was awakened by the rain. Groggy from his concussion and unable to recall recent events, he stumbled back through the woods to the lights of the house. Shambling up to the daughter, he started to explain that he was hurt and needed help. The daughter again tried to make him leave but her parents returned and promised to take good care of David.

    David Cabot "was seen no more" but the villagers of Frontenac said that, thereafter, there were sightings of four werewolves in the woods around them -- two old wolves and two young wolves.

    This was a brief story - the werewolves are only barely glimpsed and David was never actually depicted as a werewolf.

    Reading between the lines of the story, I have a hunch the daughter isn't supposed to be the blood offspring of the parents. She looks down on peasants while the parents are depicted as being poor and make references to werewolves transforming peasants into their ranks. As the "daughter" is said to have been only recently transformed, I think she might be an upper-class woman who was attacked and transformed by the peasant couple then forced to live with them.

A mother, father and daughter living in the woods of Frontenac, northern France, became werewolves (loup-garou) and would hunt at night. At the time they met David Cabot, the daughter had only recently become a werewolf.

When David happened to come across the family's home, the daughter attempted to ward him off before her parents could see him but the parents welcomed him in and disarmed him, warning him that their daughter had foolish ideas about werewolves. Even when the daughter tried to explain to David about the danger he was in, he brushed off her warnings. As David started to sleep by the fire, the parents transformed into their werewolf forms and attacked him. The daughter intervened between them, giving David an opportunity to escape, but David struck his head in the woods and lost his memory. Shambling back to the house, David was welcomed back by the parents, who soon turned him into a werewolf. Thereafter, David went hunting alongside the mother, father and daughter.
