History:
(
Edge#1 (fb) - BTS) - Butcher was a condemned convict slated for execution until he and a number of his fellows were offered the chance to be test subjects for geneticist Doctor John Carnell's experiments in enhancing mankind's evolution. The process transformed Butcher and the other convicts into monsters, who then escaped. Dubbing themselves the Plague, the seized hostages atop the Statue of Liberty, slaying at least a few to prove they were serious.

(Edge#1 (fb)) - Carnell's two sons, long trained by their father in the hopes they would one day lead the new race he hoped to create, confronted the Plague, and killed most of them. Butcher and Filth were the last two standing, but when Butcher told Filth to kill the remaining hostages Filth refused. To stop Butcher slaying them himself, Eric Carnell tackled him, causing both to fall from the statue's head. Eric saved himself with a rope line, but Butcher fell to his death.

Comments: Created by Steven D. Grant and Gil Kane.

We never get told what demands the Plague had, but I assume they had some if they had taken hostages in such a prominent location.

CLARIFICATIONS:
Butcher has no known connections to:

The Plague

The Plague were condemned convicts who underwent Doctor John Carnell's first round of human experiments, and then escaped to take hostages. The Carnell brothers slew most of them, but Eric spared Filth, the only Plague member who had been unwilling to harm innocents, and Filth went on to become his servant.
