History:

(Spitfire and the Troubleshooters I#8) - On February 4, 1987, Edmund Roth of the C.I.A. had inventor Jenny Swensen kidnapped and began to interrogate her to judge her fitness for recruitment into the agency. To test her, they unleashed Brick so they could observe her fighting styles. Although Jenny fought back, Brick quickly overpowered her and was about to deliver a death-blow to her when Roth activated the sound frequency which told Brick to hold back.

Roth revealed a laboratory in the testing room with an incomplete version of the M.A.X. armor and told Jenny she had 12 hours until the next time Brick would be unleashed against her, so her only hope was to use the time to finish the armor. Jenny built a Taser and when the 12 hours were up, tried to use it to stun Brick, but Roth had seen what Jenny was fabricating and equipped Brick with a miniature lightning rod. When Jenny fired the Taser at Brick, he caught the cable with the rod then flung it back at Jenny, stunning her.

When the time came for Jenny's next fight with Brick, she simply wielded a whistle against him, releasing the same pitch as the sound used to restrain him. Brick halted in the midst of striking Jenny and remained defenseless as Jenny knocked him out. Roth was impressed by the lengths Jenny went to to best Brick without surrendering the secrets of the M.A.X. technology and judged her fit for the C.I.A.
