History:
(Secret Service#1 (fb) -
BTS) - Bimbo was an agent of the British Secret Service and had done
numerous missions, many of which had included parachute drops, including
ones where he had driven himself off cliffs to safely parachute to the
ground below.
His latest mission involved looking into the kidnappings of multiple actors from cult science fiction shows, including cast and crew from the Star Wars movies, the TV show Doctor Who, from Star Trek (the original set of series rather than the J.J. Abrams movies), and Battlestar Galactica (version not specified). Through unrevealed means Bimbo tracked the recently kidnapped Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker in Star Wars) to an isolated mountain lodge in Zermatt, Switzerland, where his captors were holding the actor until he could be transferred on to another location...
(Secret Service#6 - BTS) - where he would join the other kidnap victims as prisoners of tech billionaire Doctor James Arnold.
(Secret Service#1
(fb) - BTS) - Bimbo approached the lodge via a snowmobile, setting up
boobytraps including garotte wires strung between trees at about neck
height in anticipation of being pursued when on the way back out. Armed
with a silenced pistol he parked the snowmobile just far enough away
from the lodge to ensure the sentries would not hear his approach, but
close enough to quickly run back to, then killed his way past the
outside sentries and slipped inside, still undetected by the guards
within.
(Secret Service#1)
- Finding four kidnappers in the room with Mark Hamill Bimbo slew three
of them before they even knew he was there, then shot the last one in
the back of the head (seeming to deliberately give the man just enough
time to realize what was about to happen). The agent then informed the
shocked actor that he was from the British Secret Service and there to
rescue him, before being interrupted by another guard who entered the
room carrying a tray of hot drinks. Shooting this new arrival before he
could fully register what was happening Bimbo told Hamill to head for
the snowmobile, and when the actor asked where it was Bimbo instructed
him to just follow the trail of corpses. As he departed Bimbo dropped an
explosive device which blew up seconds later, killing even more guards
who had been standing sentry around the other side of the lodge. With
Hamill riding behind him Bimbo raced off on the snowmobile, but almost
immediately more of Arnold's men were in hot pursuit, racing behind them
on skies while firing at them with automatic weapons. Unconcerned, Bimbo
told Hamill to keep his head down, and they passed unharmed beneath the
wires Bimbo had set earlier, while several of their pursuers were
decapitated. Several more continued to give chase, so Bimbo launched
missiles from the back of the snowmobile, blowing many of them up.
However, more continued to show up, this time on their own snowmobiles.
In response Bimbo raced his vehicle straight towards a cliff and
launched them off it despite Hamill's understandable terror. Grabbing
the actor, Bimbo reassured him that he'd done this millions of times and
the parachute he was wearing could hold both of them. Unfortunately, it
failed to deploy, and as Arnold's men watched in shock the pair
plummeted to their deaths, smashing brutally head first on the rocks
below. Moments after they hit the ground, the chute finally opened
The news of Bimbo's
demise soon made its way back to his agency. Discussing their fellow
agent's untimely demise Sir Giles theorized that the equipment failure
was the fault of budget cuts.

Around the same time that Marvel published
The Secret Service miniseries the story was also published in serialized
form in Mark Millar's U.K. magazine CLiNT. However, while both Secret
Service#1 and the relevant issue of CLiNT (Vol.2#1) are cover dated June
2012, the Marvel title was released a couple of months earlier than the
cover date, unlike the U.K. magazine, so the story (and Bimbo) first
appeared in the Marvel series.
In Secret Service#2 Jack London tells his nephew Eggsy that he is a "secret agent", and presumably by inference this should hold true for Bimbo too; though movies often call spies that, in the real world though the people working for the intelligence agencies are not called secret agents but Intelligence Operatives, and it is sources who are termed agents. However since London was explaining his work to someone whose general knowledge was mostly limited to video games and movies, it's likely that London went with the job name that Eggsy would understand, rather than the strictly accurate one.
The revelation in Secret Service#6 that the main villain James Arnold has turned many within the Secret Service to his cause, including Rupert Greaves, who had direct access to the equipment being prepared for agents in the field as shown in #2, puts Bimbo's death in a possibly different light. With somewhat black humor, in #1 Sir Giles speculated that the parachute failed due to budget cuts - "probably stitched together by some Vietnamese toddler to save some more bloody money." But perhaps it was sabotage rather than an accident, orchestrated by Greaves or another traitor after they determined that Bimbo would never be won over to their cause?
Bimbo is not named during the sequence where
he appears and dies, but his passing is discussed later in Secret
Service#1 by Jack London and Sir Giles, and both of them call him Bimbo.
I can't imagine that was his official codename, not unless the person
who assigned it had a seriously childish sense of humor, nor is it
likely that his real name (first or surname) was Bimbo, so I've got to
imagine that it was a nickname used by his friends. If so it might be
because his real name in some way sounded close to Bimbo, or it might be
a description of how he acted. Both of these make me think that his real
name was James Bond. No, seriously. He looks like Bond, he has the same
attitude, and the stunt which kills him is almost identical to the
opening sequence from the Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me, down to the
Union Jack parachute. Additionally, in Secret Service#6 we get told the
names of some past Secret Service agents - Steed, Gambit, Drake and
Templar. All four are British spies from television or books in the last
case - John
Steed from The Avengers, Steed's partner Mike
Gambit from The New Avengers, John Drake from Danger Man, and
Simon Templar from The Saint novels and their TV adaptations and movies.
Secret Service#6 does also include a rescued celebrity who mentions he
used to play James Bond, but I don't think that negates the possibility
that Bimbo was also intended to be Bond.

In the movie version, Kingsman: The Secret Service, the character was James Spencer, codename Lancelot, and he was killed by Gazelle while attempting to rescue Professor James Arnold, rather than from a fatal fall while trying to rescue Mark Hamill. He was played by Jack Davenport, while Professor Arnold, in a cheeky bit of casting, was played by Mark Hamill. While many of the actors in the movie do not resemble their comic counterparts (for example, Gazelle in the comics is a black man, but in the movie Gazelle is an Algerian woman), Davenport and Bimbo are an exception and are physically fairly similar, and so in the absence of other ways to calculate them more accurately, I've ASSumed that Bimbo has the same physical stats as Davenport. The comic's agents don't use Arthurian codenames, so Bimbo wouldn't be codenamed Lancelot in the comics either; in terms of real identities, the movie versions do match the comics some of the time, so it is feasible that if Bimbo's real name isn't Bond then it could be the James Spencer.
There are a number of other pertinent
differences between the comic's secret agents and the movie versions. In
the movies they work for Kingsman, an independent agency loyal to
Britain but not affiliated with the British government or authorities,
but in the comic they are "special operatives for Her Majesty's
Government and working on behalf of the Foreign and Commonwealth
Office." Though it's not outright stated, that's MI-6 (Military
Intelligence-6, a.k.a. the Security Intelligence Service), the real
world agency that the fictional James Bond works for, and the one tasked
with overseas missions, the "U.K. C.I.A." as it were. The FBI
counterpart would be MI-5 (Military Intelligence-5, a.k.a. the Security
Service), which works for the government department known as the Home
Office. And in case you're wondering, yes, there used to be an MI-1
through MI-19 (excepting MI-13, which wasn't used in the real world),
with the first being launched during the First World War and most of
them operating primarily during World War II.
As in the movie, in the comics the villain was kidnapping celebrities in order to ensure they survived his plan to purge the majority of Earth's population. However, while in the movie said celebrities included politicians, sportsmen and women, and famous actors and singers, in the comic Arnold seemed to be exclusively snatching up people involved in producing hit SF films and TV shows - as well as the ones mentioned in the history above, Arnold also took at least one actor who played James Bond and the entire cast of the British SF sitcom Red Dwarf.
