History:

(U.S.A. Comics I#4/6) - When millions of dollars in gold were found in Valley Town, Alaska, La Barbe sent his gang to threaten the gold miners, telling them if they didn't sell out their mines to La Barbe then they'd be killed. The gang did as he said, kiling those miners who refused to sell. La Barbe led his men to confront the gold miner Zeb Sanders, who lived in a log cabin with his grandson Billy. When Zeb refused to sell out, La Barbe drew a knife to kill him.

    Suddenly, the hero Rockman arrived on the scene, tunneling from beneath the earth to emerge in front of Sanders' cabin. Rockman began attacking La Barbe's men but La Barbe drew a sleeping gas bomb and hurled it at Rockman, rendering him drowsy, then unconscious. La Barbe and his men tied up Rockman, Zeb and Billy inside of Zeb's cabin then overturned a gas can and started a fire to burn down the cabin and kill all three of them.

    La Barbe and his men left the cabin and headed into Zeb's gold mine, but Rockman escaped his bonds and saved himself, Zeb and Billy from the fire. Rockman pursued La Barbe into the gold mine and attacked La Barbe's men. La Barbe tried to flee the mine, but Rockman ordered his people in Abysmia to cause a blast in the upper part of the mine. Rockman caught up to La Barbe and fought with him until the blast caused by Rockman's people opened up a fissure in the ground. La Barbe's men were crushed as the tunnel collapsed around them and La Barbe fell into the fissure to his apparent death.
