Powers/Abilities: Janet can alter her size via Pym Particles, though she was only seen using it for shrinking, and not growing.
She can project powerful bio-electric blasts from her hands and paralyze people with her Wasp's Sting.
Early in her career as the Wasp, her wings consisted of specialized synthetic cells implanted under her skin that expanded as she shrank. Presently, the Avenging Wasp uses rigid mechanical wings attached via her suit's harness that assume a folded position when not used. These wings always remain proportional relative to Janet's body, allowing her to fly both shrunk down and at her regular size.
Likewise, early in the Wasp's career she had synthetic cells that manifested as functional antennae as she shrank. The antennae are currently not visible, but the Avenging Wasp is still able to communicate with the insects of different species.
She is a talented fashion designer who frequently designed costumes both for herself and her teammates.

History: (Battleworld#5 (fb)) - Janet Van Dyne fell in love with the brilliant scientist Hank Pym. He subjected her to Pym Particles and implanted synthetic cells that would manifest as wings and antennae when Janet shrunk down. She became a hero known as the Wasp, and the two of them joined the Avengers.
(Battleworld#1 (fb) - BTS) - Hank Pym restrained himself
from killing Baron Heinrich Zemo and was himself killed by him in turn.
Janet avenged Hank by killing Zemo, after which she changed her codename
to the "Avenging Wasp."
(Battleworld#5 (fb) - BTS) - As the leader of the Avengers, the Avenging Wasp participated in the Korvac Saga, which ended with both Korvac and his lover Carina dead.
(Battleworld#1 (fb) - BTS) - Janet became the leader of the Avengers and took part in the Secret Wars, in which heroes and villains transported onto the Battleworld and forced to fight by the Beyonder.
(Battleworld#1) - The Avenging Wasp found herself transported onto a patchwork planet of different timelines. A booming voice from the sky proclaimed that only one timeline shall remain and that only those who prevail will have a place in it. Janet came across a group of heroes consisting of Warbird, Luke Cage, Spider-Man, and an older Hank Pym, whom she embraced after a brief shock of seeing him alive. Their group was attacked by Sentinels, and Janet assumed them to be the dangerous but beatable models she knew on her world, but these were in fact Omega Class Sentinels from Earth-811 that began quickly adapting to powers used against them. The heroes were joined by Storm, King Thor, Maestro, and Kushala, and together they were able to defeat the Sentinels. Hank was about to be sniped from afar by Baron (Helmut) Zemo of Earth-31117 before the latter was executed by young Bucky Barnes, whom Janet welcomed by saying that anyone who killed a Zemo was a friend of hers.
Hank Pym analyzed the energy signature of the Battleworld and concluded that it was Korvac-691 who had created and brought everyone to it. Korvac himself then appeared before the assemblage and repeated that only those who prevailed would have a say in his new unified timeline before departing. Knowing that Korvac was not bluffing, Maestro heeded his words and attacked the others. Janet urged Hank to use the Monster Island Protocol both of them were familiar with, and the two of them shrunk down and flew into Maestro's ear. Hank assumed that the Avenging Wasp wanted to disorient the inner ear, but Janet flew deeper and used her bioelectric blasts to fry Maestro's brain from the inside. Hank was disappointed that Janet went straight for the kill without attempting any other solutions, while Janet argued that Maestro would have killed them and that this kind of restraint was what got her Hank killed. Regardless, Maestro was already regenerating, and Pym shrunk him down to subatomic size before leaving the group, frustrating Janet.
(Battleworld#2 (fb) - BTS) - While Pym was on his own, Luke Cage, Kushala, King Thor, and Warbird were captured by Arcade, who controlled a section of the Battleworld.
(Battleworld#2) - The remaining heroes decided to seek out Pym and ask for his help. Janet learned from the insects that Hank was on the Monster Island and ventured there along with Storm, Bucky, and Spider-Man. Hank was uninterested in aiding them at first but changed his mind upon hearing that Arcade was involved. Some of his Avengers Academy students had been killed by Arcade-616, and Janet correctly predicted that Hank would have studied Murderworld over his guilt. Murderworld was located under the Kingdom of the Frost Giants, where Storm melted the ice above an access hatch, allowing their group to sneak inside. Arcade sent the Absorbing Man (Carl Creel) and Titania (Mary MacPherran) to check the alarm. Creel was knocked out by Bucky, while Hank made a deal with Titania to buy time. They found and rescued King Thor, Luke Cage, and Warbird, but Kushala was in Arcade's arena, fighting Giselle Villard of Earth-21371. The heroes attacked Arcade, but he had technology that protected him against both magic and other attacks. Hank used insects to poison Arcade from the inside and force him to surrender in exchange for the antidote, impressing Janet, who convinced Hank to rejoin her group.
(Battleworld#3 (fb) - BTS) - With Arcade out, Hank kept his deal with Titania and gave control over Murderworld to her and her husband.
(Battleworld#3) - The Avenging Wasp asked Kushala for a spell that would mask the specifics of their actions from Korvac, but not their presence. Using Murderworld technology, Hank Pym constructed a device that replicated Arcade's abilities, limited by charge, and gave it to Carol Danvers. Janet commented that the Hank she knew would have used the tech himself, if not spread it to the whole team. Hank-616 lashed out by saying that had Hank-25111 survived, he would have descended into the life of emotional instability that mirrored his own. Disappointed in him, Janet was about to leave when Hank spotted the presence of a Star Brand on Battleworld, with power strong enough to rival Korvac. Before the heroes could formulate a plan, the Absorbing Man kicked them out of Murderworld.
The group located Star Brand in a section of the Battleworld that contained Hickory, Pennsylvania, and Janet suggested that Hank and Carol should approach him first. Their attempt to recruit him went wrong, and Star Brand attack the rest of the team, with the fight spilling onto the street. The Avenging Wasp took the leadership role by directing Spider-Man to restrain the civilians with webs, telling Warbird to use the Arcade tech instead of saving it for later, asking Storm for a fog cover, telling Hank to stop growing, and asking Kushala to bring out her Spirit of Vengeance. After Warbird gave Star Brand a severe beating with her one-time use of Arcade tech, Kushala brought him down with a Penance Stare, while Hank impersonated the Old Man and convinced Kenneth to surrender the Star Brand "back" to him. This attracted the attention of Korvac, who arrived to deal with the group in person.
(Battleworld#4) - Hank Pym attempted to attack Korvac with his Star Brand, but could not control it properly. Warbird ordered Bucky and Spider-Man away to find reinforcements, while the rest attacked Korvac. Janet deduced that Korvac was driven by selfish reasons, having deliberately picked versions of heroes at their lowest instead of well-adjusted people to learn from them. After suffering a series of blows, Korvac stopped holding back and proceeded to kill the heroes one by one. Hank and Janet were the last ones standing, but when Hank finally was ready to strike Korvac with the Star Brand, Janet shocked him with a Wasp's Sting that knocked Pym out.
Janet then asked Korvac to make a deal, accepting that he had won and offering to help him in creating the new timeline. In return, the Avenging Wasp asked Korvac to bring those he had killed back to life, in addition to Hank Pym of her home reality. Her growing resentment for the self-doubting Hank Pym-616 made her miss the confident man she fell in love, and Janet asked Korvac to fix her Hank's mental issues to save him from also becoming broken and useless. Korvac accepted her bargain and revived those he had just killed.
(Battleworld#5 (fb) - BTS) - Korvac placed the defeated heroes in stasis inside his control center, only excluding the Avenging Wasp.
(Battleworld#5) - Korvac confided to Janet the story of his love to Carina and how she had come to resent him after seeing multiple heroes die at his hands. Hank Pym-616 was likewise now repulsive to Janet, and Korvac asked that she use that experience to help him win his love back. Cosmic awareness would let Carina see through Korvac's attempts to erase his mistakes from the timeline, so Korvac decided to take that away from her first. Janet advised him against it, pointing out that any romance based on deception was doomed to unravel eventually, and that there was always a risk of Carina simply not loving him back. Korvac declared that ridiculous, and vaporized the Avenging Wasp with a wave of his hand.
Hank Pym-616 and the other heroes either broke out or were released by Korvac and together made him finally understand the vanity of his desires. Striking another deal with Pym, Korvac restored the Avenging Wasp to life and granted her awareness of the events that had transpired in the interim. She immediately apologized for her betrayal to Hank, who then gave Korvac advice on how to keep moving forward with his life. While Korvac prepared to disassemble the Battleworld and return everyone home with no direct memory of it, Janet confessed to Hank that seeing his flaws made her question the lifetime she had spent mourning the loss of her own Hank. She concluded that each of two Hanks were both better and worse in different ways, and hugged Pym-616 goodbye before being returned home.

In an interview with 'Traversing the Stars' podcast, Christos Gage revealed that he had originally intended to use the "sketch" Janet Van Dyne from UltraForce/Avengers#1 (1995) whose Hank Pym was also killed early in his career, only in his case by Loki. However, recapping her origins would have required explaining the complicated nature of the Ultraverse and the UltraForce/Avengers crossover, so the editor Will Moss suggested to use a new version of the Wasp with a similar backstory instead.
In another interview with AIPT Comics Podcast Gage clarified that each section of the Battleworld and each of the main characters was taken from a different timeline, and that Hank Pym is "the only character in it that is really from the 616 timeline." However, because Bucky, Spider-Man, Luke Cage, and Warbird were all taken from the relative past, their experiences are identical to their Earth-616 counterparts up to that point.
