Powers/Abilities: Prior to her mutation, Patrica Hamilton was an Olympic-level swimmer.
Her mutant abilties included
green and scaly skin, the ability to breathe underwater due to the
gills behind her ears, and webbed fingers, which granted her great
agility and speed while swimming.
As a burlesque performer, Hamilton would wear a fake mermaids tail to make it seem as if she was a real mermaid.

History:
(District X I#2 (fb) - BTS) - British Patricia Hamilton was a very
talented swimmer, winning many trophies throughout the years. However
when Hamilton was set to represent England in the Olympics her mutant
abilities manifested, causing her skin to develop green scales and
webbed fingers. Her newfound mutant appearance led to Hamilton being
disqualified from competition swimming by the sports council due to
unfair advantages.
(District X I#2 (fb) - BTS) - With an ever changing climate of hate against mutankind Hamilton decided to move to the United States of America, which she believed to be the land of opportunities. Hamilton, however soon found herself in a rather poor apartment on McCarthy Avenue in Mutant Town, a New York city neighborhood inhabited by X-Gene positive residents.
(District X I#1 - BTS) - Wearing a fake mermaid tail, Hamilton soon came to be known as the Amazing Merwoman, a performance artist in Daniel's Inferno a mutant nightclub owned by local crime boss Daniel "Shaky" Kaufman.
(District X I#7 - BTS) - Absolon Mercator, Hamilton's neighbor from across the street, would regularly visit Daniel's Inferno to see the Amazing Merwoman perform.
(District X I#1 (fb) - BTS) - While living in her apartment on McCarthy Avenue, Hamilton met upstairs neighbors Jake Costanza and his wife. Hamilton was surprised Mr. Constanza told everyone his wife was mute.
(District X I#1 - BTS) - Due to unrevealed reasons Hamilton came in touch with Bethany Danziger, the sister of Mrs. Costanza, who'd been searching for her sister for eighteen months. Danziger made her way to McCarthy Avenue and waited at Hamilton's apartment as she called the police.
(District X I#1 (fb) ) - Hamilton waited alongside Bethany Danziger in the rain until police officers Ismael "Izzy" Ortega and Gustave "Gus" Kucharsky arrived on the scene. Quickly getting out of the rain, Hamilton suggested they use her apartment while Danziger explained her sister was kept a prisoner by her brother-in-law.
(District X I#1 - BTS) - The police officers made their way over to Costanza's apartment and found that his wife was gagged and bound. However, upon freeing the woman she proved to actually be a mutant with siren-like abilities. She used her abilities to make officier Kucharsky shoot and kill both Jake Costanza and herself after which Kucharsky nearly shot himself in the head. Hearing the shots fired, Bethany Danziger and Hamilton quickly made their way up. But before the duo could enter the room Officer Ortega had quickly changed the crime scene to make it look as if Costanza had shot his wife and killer himself.
(District X I#1 (fb) ) - Hamilton and Bethany Danziger burst through the door seeing the dead bodies on the floor as officer Ortega tried to stop them.
(District X I#2 - BTS) - Feeling for the woman, Hamilton allowed Bethany to spend the night at her apartment.
(District X I#2) - Hamilton and Bethany were visited
by Detective Sam Klein and his (unidentified) colleague to gather more
information on what transpired with Mr Costanza and his wife. But when
the detective asked Bethany where they could reach her, Hamilton
replied she would stay with her for as long as she needed while placing
her hand on Bethany's shoulder (see
comments).
Sometime later that day, Bethany expressed she would love to see
Hamilton perform during her nightclub act. Hamilton, however, was quick
to note it was rather seedy, and she revealed her reasons for coming to
the United States, after which she left for work. Just as Hamilton
entered Daniel's Inferno, she was unaware she was being watched by
Officer Ortega and his new mutant partner Bishop. After being welcomed
by Daniel's Inferno's manager, Lonnie Shakespeare, Hamilton noticed two
of Kaufman's thugs brining mutant drug dealer Jazz in to see Kaufman.
(District X I#3) - Hamilton was seen performing as the Amazing Merwoman in Daniel's Inferno while Jazz was selling Mutant Town's hottest drug, Toad Juice. Later that night, Hamilton and the attendees of Daniel's Inferno were shocked when the young human girl Dana Louise Hutton died after using Toad Juice. It appeared that while mutants enjoyed some pleasurable effects of the drugs, it would cause humans to die a horrendous death.
(District X I#4) - Patricia Hamilton was still
present at Daniel's Inferno when Officer Ortega and Detective Bishop
arrived to investigate Hutton's death. After talking with Kaufman and
Shakespeare, Officer Ortega turned his attention towards Hamilton and
asked how Bethany was doing. Hamilton informed him that Bethany would
go home that very afternoon.
Later that afternoon, Hamilton said her goodbyes to
Bethany as she boarded the Greyhound, placing her webbed hand on the
glass as she left.
(District X I#6) - When local police forces and Detective Bishop arrived at McCarthy Avenue to take Absolon Mercator into custody, Hamilton and other neighbors went outside to see what happened. Mercator felt he was pushed over the edge and planned to destroy all of District X, allowing his neighbor Hanna Levy to get out. In the end, it was the combined efforts of Officer Ortega, Detective Bishop and the mutant illusion casting call girl Lara the Illusionist that stopped Mercator after which he turned himself in.
(District X I#7 (fb) - BTS) - After Kaufman fired Lonnie Shakespeare and a gang war had erupted between Kaufman and Zapruder, Hamilton decided to quit Daniel's Inferno as well. She and many of Kaufman's ex-clientele quickly joined Lonnie's new establishment, Shakespeare's, several blocks east on Calley Avenue. Daniel's Inferno soon turned into a rather empty bar with the posters of the Amazing Merwoman taped off.
(House of M I#1 - BTS / Mutopia X I#2 - BTS) - Patricia Hamilton was among the people affected by the reality altering spell cast by the Scarlet Witch which overlapped (Earth-616 with Reality-58163) into a place where mutantkind thrived. Unaware of her former live, Hamilton came to work for Mister M's Mutopia; Centre for Transformation and Illumination. As such she mentored children considered suffering from arrested genetic development (or humans) in preparation to unlock their mutant potential.
(Mutopia X I#2 (fb) - BTS) - Hamilton helped prepare the young sapien Chamayra Ortega for her Rite of Transformation. When she deemed the girl ready, Hamilton set up a meeting with Absolon Mercator to see if she was ready.
(Mutopia X I#2) - At the Centre for Transformation and Illumination, Hamilton welcomed Chamayra's parents. But when they were introduced to Mercator, Ismael Ortega questioned why his daughter had to be "cured" from being a sapien. Hamilton watched as Mercator decided Chamayra's transformation would be postponed until the entire family would be willing.
(Mutopia X I#3) - Receiving news back from the Ortega girl's parents, Hamilton informed Mercator they had given their full permission for Chamayra's transformation.
(Mutopia X I#4) - Hamilton,
Hanna Levy and Lorelei prepared Chamayra and eleven other sapien
children for their transformation. During the ceremony, Hamilton
offered Chamayra a piece of special fruit after which Mercator used
his
abilities to turn her into a mutant. However just as Chamayra
discovered she could fly, panic ensued as Bishop and Lara the
Illusionist barged into the ceremony as sapien terrorist Sashenka
Popova had been sent by Daniel Kaufman to murder Ismael Ortega. In an
effort to keep his family safe, young Esteban Ortega used his powers
to
stave off Popova's shot; sadly, the blast then hit his sister
Chamayra.
Seeing his daughter bleeding to death caused Ismael Ortega to partly
snap out of the Scarlet Witch reality altering spell, remembering his
daughter had been shot before and was healed by Mercator. However,
just
as Mercator tried to revive the young girl, Reality-58163 faded,
restoring the previous Earth-616 status quo.
(House of M#8 - BTS) - As all of reality turned back to normal with most not remembering what had transpired, an additional reality-altering spell had been cast by the Scarlet Witch which reduced the number of gene active mutants worldwide. Patricia Hamilton was one of the many millions mutants who lost their powers.

Although unconfirmed, I felt like there was some underlying romantical tension between Hamilton and Bethany Danziger by how much emphasis was put on the word "long" when she told Bethany she could stay as LONG as she needs while placing her hands on her shoulders. A few issues later when Bethany returned home both women placed their hands on opposite sides of the bus' window, not particularly something normal friends would do.
