Powers/Abilities: Agent X was a skilled espionage officer and military commander. He commanded a force that included an aircraft carrier (disguised as an island), submarines and torpedo boats. His office included a radio and a secret trapdoor with a chute that led to a torpedo boat so he could escape capture.

History:

(Young Allies I#3/9) - Agent X was contacted by Yo Janar, a diamond thief, who offered his services to Japan and began stealing black diamonds that were being used in American manufacturing for polishing tanks. When Father Time interfered with Yo Janar's robberies, Yo Janar fled, thinking he'd escaped the hero. Instead, Yo Janar unwittingly led Father Time to Agent X's lair. As Yo Janar presented Agent X with the black diamonds he'd stolen, Father Time burst in and punched Agent X. While his other men attacked Father Time, Agent X rang a gong to summon more guards, who briefly overwhelmed the hero until he flung the gong on top of them. Agent X tried to flee but Father Time tackled him to the ground and knocked him out, then telephoned the authorities to arrest Agent X and his gang.

(Human Torch Comics I#7 (fb) - BTS) - Shortly after his encounter with Father Time, Agent X lost his left eye. He relocated from espionage work to a military command in the Japanese Navy and set up his Pacific base by forming a false island to conceal his aircraft carrier.

(Human Torch Comics I#7) - Agent X's operative Agent A discovered the merchant seaman "Cap" Jim was contributing his ship the S.S. Smith in a supply convoy to the East Indies and radioed this information to Agent X, who ordered Agent A to use "Plan Q. B." Agent A and two other spies working for Agent X donned wax masks to make themselves appear Chinese then signed up as crewmen on the S.S. Smith. During the night, the spies painted a luminous mark on the deck of the S.S. Smith so that Agent X's planes could see it from the air.

    Agent X commanded four of his pilots to attack the S.S. Smith at night but the ship was defended by the Human Torch and Toro, who destroyed three of the planes, causing the last pilot to retreat. Next, Agent X sent out an empty radio-controlled submarine to trick the convoy into attacking it, leaving them defenseless against a surprise attack by Agent X's torpedo boats. The Human Torch and Toro again defended the convoy and caught sight of the nearby false island where Agent X was based.

    The Human Torch and Toro entered the base and began assaulting the aircraft carrier. Agent X ordered his men to fire hoses at them but the Human Torch turned the water into steam. Agent X dropped an asbestos net upon them, but they simply melted through the deck beneath them to escape. When the two heroes went looking for the carrier's boiler rooms, Agent X attempted to seal them up in the carrier's lower decks then flooded the compartment they were in with foamite. However, Toro melted through the upper deck and they escaped.

    When the Human Torch and Toro burst in on Agent X in his office he opened a trapdoor and went down a chute to waiting torpedo boat to escape them. Toro hurled a fireball into the carrier's ammunition room and the heroes fled the carrier as it exploded, killing Agent X's crew.

    Agent X fled to a nearby (non-artificial) island where he had a secondary base. As the area around the island was defended by sea mines, he believed himself safe from the convoy but the Human Torch and Toro flew to the island and kidnapped Agent X from his building, burning down the Japanese base as they flew him back to the convoy. The Human Torch tied Agent X to the bow of the S.S. Smith and ordered him to guide the ship through the sea mines. Agent X complied and the convoy reached its destination. Agent X loosened his bonds and dived off the S.S. Smith's bow then swam to shore. Spotted by a guard, Agent X chose to commit suicide by leaping upon the guard's bayonet, thus avoiding being captured alive.

    The two Agent Xs were confirmed to be the same person in Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A to Z Vol. 5's Human Torch profile, which is also where his real name comes from. They're not quite the same - the Agent X in Father Time was a plainclothes spy working for the Japanese; the one from Human Torch was a Japanese military officer whom other plainclothes spies reported to. Further, the surname "Miller" seems off-base for a Japanese national in the 1940s. And these two stories were released the same month! Making them the same person just because their alias was "Agent X" was incredibly tenuous.

Agent X's aircraft carrier was disguised as a false island, with a fake volcano used to disguise the smoke from the carrier's smokestack. It contained giant trap doors so that aircrafts could launch from the carrier's deck and for torpedo boats to enter and dock. A trapdoor in Agent X's office released a chute that lowered him to the torpedo boats' staging area.
