History:

(Silly Tunes#3/1 (fb) - BTS) - Bodybuilder and self-proclaimed "physical culture" expert John Strongarm established a bodybuilding and exercise business via mail order and advertised in comic books. He thought very positively of himself and met with his Ziggy Pig's girlfriend on a friendly basis.

(Silly Tunes#3/1) - Silly Seal alerted his best friend Ziggy Pig that his girlfriend was with a new man. Angered, Ziggy confronted Strongarm, unaware who he really was, and threatened to beat him up, but Strongarm cheerfully punched him away. Ziggy's girlfriend called Ziggy a coward and Silly was shocked with his friend's quick defeat. That night, frustrated, Ziggy responded to the Strongarm advert in Krazy Comics, and followed the two-week exercise and strength-building course. Silly followed Ziggy as he went once again to confront the stranger with his girlfriend, but he was again knocked down with three well-aimed punches from Strongarm. Ziggy's girlfriend voiced concern, but Strongarm laughed it off and wandered away. Once Ziggy had recovered, his girlfriend revealed that her friend was Strongarm and not to be jealous.

Comments: Creators not credited.

John Strongarm is loosely modeled on bodybuilder and "physical culture" advocate Charles Atlas, who ran now-iconic adverts for his bodybuilding and exercise program in many comics from the 1940s for several decades.
