History:
(Blonde Phantom#20/2 (fb) - BTS) - Mort Morbid, a
self-described "gadget-gook", was a clever inventor with a fascination
for springs. His home lab had many spring-laden devices. He developed,
tested and mastered springing shoes--devices that clipped onto the
soles of shoes and the springs facilitated high jumps.
(Blonde Phantom#20/2 (fb)) - Bouncing in his shoes,
the eccentric Morbid took his invention to the Hobnob Novelty Company
to sell his idea, but was ridiculed and laughed out of the office.
Morbid swore revenge and two days later, hid booby-trapped spring
devices in Hobnob's office and home, causing inconvenience, surprise and
minor pain to Hobnob and his office staff. Morbid took on the crazed
moniker of the Springer and his spring-loaded pranks increased in
danger. The terrified Hobnob engaged detective Mark Mason for help.
Mason went to Hobnob's office to find the Springer extorting Hobnob for
peace and shoe rights, but Hobnob refused. Springer bounced to the open
safe and stole the money instead, knocking back heroic Mason with a
hidden hurled spring. The Blonde Phantom (secretly Mason's secretary)
gave chase and followed the Springer home, but she was caught by
spring-loaded devices and he escaped. However, the Blonde Phantom found
a spare set of springing shoes and put them on, facilitating a bouncing
chase down city streets back to Hobnob's office. Erratically, Morbid
returned the money to Hobnob, then leapt out the window. But the
one-story landing collapsed the spring and the Blonde Phantom caught
the mischief maker and brought him back inside. Morbid sincerely
apologized and Hobnob's anger subsided. However, people clamoring for
the springing shoes at the office desk made Hobnob rethink, and he
chose to drop the charges and buy all of Morbid's gadgets, much to the lad's
joy.

Short Percy Hobnob was the head of Hobnob Novelty
Company. Inventor Mort Morbid tried to sell his new springing shoes to
Hobnob but ridiculed and laughed out of the office. Morbid swore
revenge and took on the moniker the Springer, and planted many
spring-laden booby-trapped items in the office and Hobnob's home.
Terrified of the Springer's next actions, Hobnob rushed to Mark Mason's
Detective Agency (which must've been nearby) for Mason's assistance to
stop the troublesome foe. The Springer attacked and demanded money for
his shoes and peace, but Hobnob refused, so the Springer stole money
instead and bounced away. Hobnob berated Mason while the Blonde Phantom
(secretly Mason's secretary) gave chase. Erratically, Morbid returned
the money to Hobnob and tried to get away, but was caught by the Blonde
Phantom. Morbid sincerely apologized and Hobnob's anger subsided.
However, people clamoring for the springing shoes at the office desk
made Hobnob rethink, and he chose to drop the charges and buy all of
Morbid's gadgets.
