sir_lepard-kow-thor473-heSIR LEPARD

sir_lepard-kow-thor422-heReal Name: Presumably Lepard

Identity/Class: Terrestrial fauna (Lepard) mutate (New Men)

Occupation: Apparently a medical technician;
    presumably knight, warrior

Group Membership: Presumably the Knights of Wundagore (see comments)

Affiliations: Analyzer (formerly Recorder 211), High Evolutionary (Herbert Wyndham), Mongoose, Thor Odinson;
    formerly
Count Tagar, New Immortals (Juvan, Nobilus, Zon);
    possibly Hercules (Heracles/Alcaeus) and/or Thor Odinson

Enemies: Count Tagar, New Immortals  (Juvan, Nobilus, Zon);

Known Relatives: High Evolutionary (creator)

Aliases: None

Base of Operations: Unrevealed;
    last seen aboard the New Wundagore starship;
    presumably formerly the High Evolutionary's citadel atop Mount Wundagore, Transia, Earth

First Appearance: (Possibly, unidentified) Thor I#406 (August, 1989);
    (confirmed identified)
Thor I#422 (September, 1989)

Powers/Abilities: A leopard evolved and mutated into humanoid conformation, Sir Lepard presumably has enhanced human strength, speed, and reflexes.

    He presumably has enhanced olfactory and auditory senses, as well as enhanced nocturnal vision.

    He apparently has sharp claws on his fingers (or he just wore gloves with pointed tips while a medical examination) and presumably on his toes, and he had enlarged canine teeth.

    Sir Lepard reported technical alerts, performed a medical examination (evaluating the nature of the High Evolutionary's recovery), and he was present during the development of the New Immortals, presumably indicating he had a degree of technical and medical proficiency.

    Although rushing to the defense of the High Evolutionary, he did not demonstrate martial prowess, at least not enough to make a difference against the more powerful New Immortals and the enhanced Count Tagar.

    Presumably, he was a Knight of Wundagore. If so:

    He was trained and experienced in armed and unarmed combat, wore armor in battle, wielded a sword and/or a staff, and likely a hand-blaster, at least.

    He flew atop an atomic steed, enabling him to fly through the air at a peak speed of Mach 1.3 and for a distance of 37,000 miles. His atomic steed was also accustomed for space flight (or whatever exists in the Black Galaxy).

Height: Unrevealed (approximately 6')
Weight: Unrevealed (approximately 200 lbs.)
Eyes: Unrevealed (likely green, with vertical slit pupils)
Hair: Unrevealed

History:
 (Thor I#406 (fb) - BTS) - At some point after returning to Earth (before initiating his Evolutionary War), the High Evolutionary created another batch of New Men (presumably including Sir Lepard).

    Under unrevealed circumstances, Count Tagar returned to Earth and to the High Evolutionary's service.

sir_lepard-kow-th424    The New Men restored the Citadel of Science atop Mount Wundagore to its former glory.

(Thor I#402-405 - BTS) - Presumably under pre-existing orders from the High Evolutionary to obtain cell samples of Thor (which was presumably the start of what would become the High Evolutionary's plan to create the New Immortals via Thor's DNA), the New Man known as Mongoose kidnapped Eric Masterson and brought him to Mount Wundagore in order to lure Thor there.

(Thor I#406 - possibly (see comments) - Sir Lepard may or may not have been among the Knights of Wundagore (including Sir Ferret, Sir Panther and Sir Puma) who briefly battled Thor when he approached New Wundagore.
    Regardless, Sir Lepard was not amongst the Knights who accompanied Thor and Eric Masterson to the Black Galaxy.

(Thor I#422) - Aboard his ship New Wundagore within the Black Galaxy, after the High Evolutionary checked on the development of his New Immortals Nobilus and Zon, Sir Lepard reported that one the Hunger Probes that the High Evolutionary had launched had just detected an alien vessel that appeared to be bearing in their direction. The Evolutionary instructed Sir Lepard to dispatch the Analyzer (the modified Recorder 211), who could easily assess the situation and determine if it posed a threat to them. The Evolutionary subsequently excused himself to check on Juvan.

(Thor I#422 - BTS) - Investigating the vessel, which turned out to be an Avengers Quinjet, the Analyzer encountered Thor and Hercules, who had been sent there on a mysterious mission by the Celestials. Although acknowledging that their threat level may be exceedingly high, he was certain that the Evolutionary would wish to see them, and he brought them back to New Wundagore (unaware that Stellaris had magnetized herself and bonded to their quinjet, secretly entering New Wundagore as well).sir_lepard-kow-thor473-aid

    After Stellaris opened the cell of Nobilus -- who suffered from bouts of madness due to having been produced from cell samples from Thor while he bewitched by Loki -- alarms sounded, and the Evolutionary led others, including various unidentified New Men to investigate.

    Taking advantage of the distraction, Count Tagar entered the Pool of Knowledge himself to unlock his godly potential, in the hope of aiding his master. Tagar emerged from the Pool of Knowledge in a rejuvenated, mutated and more powerful form.

(Thor I#424) - After the newly-transformed Count Tagar had revealed that the purpose of the Black Galaxy was to create a new Celestial, Sir Lepard advised the High Evolutionary that New Wundagore was caught in the wake of the arriving Celestials and could not long handle such stress without breaking. Insistent that he must view the creation of a new Celestial, the Evolutionary instructed Sir Lepard to take away Count Tagar, who had collapsed from the strain of his recent further enhancement

(Thor I#424 - BTS) - Presumably allowing New Wundagore to move away from the conflict, the Evolutionary took a shuttle to get closer himself.

(Thor I#425 - BTS) - Sir Lepard was aboard New Wundagore when the High Evolutionary and Analyzer -- both having been overwhelmed by viewing the birth of a Celestial (and, in the process, the destruction of the Black Galaxy) while linked together to amplify their visualization and analyses -- were brought aboard by Tagar and the New Immortals for recovery and repair, respectively. New Wundagore subsequently departed.

(Thor I#473 (fb)) - Aboard New Wundagore, Sir Lepard examined the High Evolutionary, informing Count Tagar and the New Immortals that the Evolutionary's powers must be even greater than they suspected, as his combined psionic and psychic processes had largely repaired the ravage wrought by viewing the creation of a Celestial.

    Upon reviving, the Evolutionary ordered that they return to Earth that he may create anew, noting his failure to have produced an entirely successful race in the past. When Sir Lepard asked, "But, what of us New Men, master?", Tagar interjected that his servile kind were the living embodiment of failure, and that he was happy to no longer be one of them. Tagar and the New Immortals then ambushed the Evolutionary before he had regained full use of his power. Although Sir Lepard and a few others came to the Evolutionary's aid, the Evolutionary appreciated that in his weakened state that he would be defeated, and so he fled New Wundagore, setting his armor's course to Earth before losing consciousness.

(Thor I#473 (fb) - BTS) - Preoccupied with beating down Sir Lepard and the faithful New Men, Tagar and the New Immortals did not pursue the Evolutionary.

(Thor I#482 - BTS) - When Count Tagar and the New Immortal were next seen, Sir Lepard was not.

Comments: Created by Ron Frenz and Tom DeFalco.

    Leopards are of the species Panthera pardus, one of the five existing species of the genus Panthera, which also includes the jaguar, lion, snow leopard and tiger.

    Given the "Sir" in his name, it would be assumed that he was one of the Knights of Wundagore, although Sir Porga received the same title and was not set for combat.

    Although only shown acting as a technician, Sir Lepard COULD have been one of the Knights of Wundagore seen in Thor I#406.

sir_lepard-kow-thor406-6kneelsir_lepard-kow-thor406-unmasked-maybe    There are six or more Knights of Wundagore seen in Thor I#406 (as can be clearly seen in the image with them kneeling before Thor in the image to the right), with only Sir Panther being identified in that issue. Sir Ferret and Sir Puma were identified in Thor I#407 (part of the five who traveled to the Black Galaxy), and they were presumably amongst the group in the earlier part of Thor I#406.

    When the Knights are shown without their helmets in the image to the right, there are four raised swords (including the partially seen one coming in from the right of the image) and two raised staffs, but then the furry faced one on the left of the image (closest to Thor) has the view of his raised arm blocked by Thor's head. So that would seem to indicate seven raised weapons.
    The presumption based on the one Knight fully seen is that they are each holding up one weapon and holding their helmet in their other hand. That's not 100% certain, so it could be that one or more of the knights is holding up two weapons, but I think it is more likely that there were seven of them.

    The one toward the right looks very similar to Sir Lepard, but he lacks the widows peak and pointed ears, although are somewhat subjective. I think the furry-faced one on the far left is Sir Puma, and I think either of those two the right could be Sir Panther.

     If the character with the whiskers is Sir Lepard, I really can't begin to guess which of the fully-armored knights on the left or in the other panels is Sir Lepard.
