History:
(Marvel Tales I#129/3) - Lenny Sager was a struggling writer who was ambitious, intelligent and worked hard at writing but couldn't seem to sell a story. When he brought one of his stories to J. M. Foster, Mr. Foster called it junk, threw the pages into Lenny's face, then threw Lenny through his plate glass door.
Realizing he was a failure, Lenny decided to sell his typewriter at a pawn shop for money but on his way to the shop he met his friend Joe King, who had become a successful writer. Joe insisted it was simple to make it as a writer - one simply needed inspiration. Joe pointed out how after marrying his wife Jane he'd succeeded in selling every story he wrote.
Lenny decided to get married but every woman he approached for a date turned him down. Then, one night he heard something whimpering behind a trash can. Investigating, he discovered a dog. Realizing the dog was even worse off than he, Lenny took him home and named him "Pooch." Lenny put all of his attention into caring for Pooch and somehow Pooch proved to be a capable writer and soon took over Lenny's typewriter. Lenny sold one of Pooch's stories for $100 under his name.
Soon Lenny sold one successful story after another thanks to Pooch. He moved out of his old boarding house and into a nice home, bought nice clothes and good food, never forgetting to reward Pooch for all of his work. Lenny's success led to him getting married but his wife was only interested in his money and resented that Pooch came with them on their honeymoon.
Unaware of the nature of Lenny's relationship with Pooch, his wife decided to get rid of the dog by putting poison into a tenderlion steak. Pooch ate the steak and then when Lenny's wife saw Pooch using the typewriter, the truth became clear to her.

J. M. Foster was a publisher whom Lenny tried to sell stories to but Mr. Foster thought Lenny's stories were terrible and threw him out of his office by throwing Lenny through a plate glass window.

Joe King was a writer who was friends with Lenny Sager. Joe used to have trouble selling stories until he met and married Jane, which gave him the inspiration he needed to sell stories. When Joe found Lenny about to sell his typewriter he gave him advice based on his experiences.

Pooch (also called "Poochy") was a stray dog whom Lenny Sager discovered in an alley and brought back to his boarding house to care for him. Pooch somehow proved to be a capable author and soon began writing stories on Lenny's typewriter which Lenny sold under his own name. Lenny became a successful author thanks to Pooch but his wife married him for his money and resented Pooch's presence on their honeymoon. Lenny's wife gave Pooch a poisoned tenderlion steak which would kill him in about 2 hours. However, when she saw Pooch using the typewriter, she finally realized why Pooch was so important to Lenny.
