History:

(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "Cold Vengeance" - BTS) - Pooyetah was a native Inuit elder living in northern Canada. Residing peacefully with his tribe upon the frozen Arctic lands, Pooyetah and his people survived off what nature provided them.

(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "Cold Vengeance") - While fishing upon the Arctic waters, Pooyetah and several tribesmen discovered the unconscious mutant Wolverine floating atop a drifting sheet of ice after a battle with his longtime foe Sabretooth. While Kiyook quickly suggested bringing the stranger to a nearby government settlement in hopes of receiving a reward such as a snowmobile, Pooyetah reminded the younger Inuit that begging for money was not their way and insisted they bring the injured mutant back to their village instead. As one of the tribe's elders, Pooyetah's words carried great authority. However, Sabretooth had spotted them transporting Wolverine and followed them in secret, determined to finish his enemy once and for all.

Pooyetah remained beside Wolverine until the mutant's regenerative healing factor restored him to consciousness, greatly surprising the Inuit elder with the speed of Logan's recovery. Grateful for being rescued, Wolverine offered to help the tribe in return. He accompanied Kiyook on a fishing expedition, where his great strength helped the Inuit haul in an enormous catch of fish. Upon returning to the village, Pooyetah and the villagers celebrated what was said to be their greatest catch since the large ships first came from the south. Kiyook, however, became increasingly resentful and humiliated by Wolverine's presence, having previously been regarded as the village's strongest hunter before Logan's arrival.

Later, Pooyetah and Wolverine shared a quiet conversation in which Logan admitted he believed he might finally find inner peace living among the Inuit people. Afterwards, they joined the village celebrations in preparation for a great feast. Unaware that Kiyook encountered Sabretooth and agreed to help the feral mutant kill Wolverine in hopes of reclaiming his former status within the tribe. Some time later, while Pooyetah and Logan repaired fishing nets, Kiyook approached Wolverine and challenged him to accompany him on a hunting trip upon the open sea. Realizing from Kiyook's suspicious wording that Sabretooth was somehow involved, Logan nevertheless accepted the challenge. Pooyetah remained behind as Wolverine and Kiyook departed by kayak.

(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "Cold Vengeance" - BTS) - In typical fashion, Sabretooth betrayed Kiyook and attacked the Inuit settlement while the pair were away. The village was reduced to rubble while Pooyetah and the remaining villagers were captured and bound upon a narrow ice bridge rigged with explosives in preparation for Wolverine's arrival.

(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "Cold Vengeance") - Upon returning, Kiyook confessed his shame and failure to Wolverine, finally realizing that Logan himself had never truly been the problem, but rather Kiyook's own wounded pride and fragile ego. Together, the pair confronted Sabretooth and discovered Pooyetah and the villagers tied to the explosive-laden bridge. During the ensuing battle between Wolverine and Sabretooth, Kiyook redeemed himself by tackling Sabretooth and saving Wolverine's life when all hope seemed lost. This allowed Wolverine to climb back up from a cliff edge moments before Sabretooth charged at him once more. Ducking at the last second, Wolverine caused Sabretooth to hurl himself off the cliff and disappear into the frozen abyss below. Wolverine and Kiyook quickly freed Pooyetah and the villagers before throwing the explosives safely from the bridge.

Although Wolverine offered to help rebuild the destroyed settlement, Pooyetah thanked him for the gesture but explained that many among the tribe had long wished to move south to the city, and that the destruction of the village would finally lead them toward a new life.

I was unable to track down Pooyetah's voice actor.

Pooyetah was an original character created for the show.

When, in 2015's Secret Wars, the Multiverse was destroyed following the incursions of planets it appeared as if Reality-92131 was drafted onto Battleworld as the Westchester domain. However, this has since been debunked. As such the reality seen in the two volumes of X-Men '92 (2015 and 2016-2017) now have their own reality-designation of Earth-15730. The X-Men '92: House of XCII (2022) series was inspired by both the animated series and Hickman's House of X run but is its own separate reality. The limited series X-Men '97 (2024), however, is Reality-92131 and bridges the gap between the original X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon and the new X-Men '97: The Animated Series.
