History:
(Avengers I#158 (fb) - BTS / Marvel Two-in-One I
Annual#4 (fb) - BTS) -
Judy was a scientist working at Research City, a hidden research facility in the
Canadian Rockies, working alongside Franklin Hall.
(Avengers I#158 (fb) - BTS) - While there, she became
close with her coworker Joe Parks despite earning a favored and loved
status with Franklin Hall, who had been empowered by a lab accident and
granted the ability to manipulate gravity, despite not being interested
in Franklin.
(Avengers I#159 (fb) - BTS) - At some point, Judy
married Joe Parks.
(Avengers I#158) - Judy was present with the other
Research City workers as Franklin Hall met with Joe for attempting to
communicate with the heroic Avengers outside of Research City. When Joe
admitted fault in communicating outside of Research City, Franklin used
his gravity-manipulating abilities to rise the entirety of Research
City into the air to further hide it. When Joe accused Franklin of
being crazy, Franklin hit Joe with a gravity blast, causing Joe to
double-over in pain as Judy rushed to his side. Judy begged Franklin
not to hurt "her" Joe but an annoyed Franklin ordered Judy to shut up
and return to her place, lest she lose her favored status with him.
Weak-willed from her time working under Franklin, Judy quietly returned
to her other coworkers, promising to do anything Franklin said as her
coworkers attempted to comfort her.
Judy later visited Franklin's room to deliver a package to him. Gloating, Franklin announced that Judy should be honored to share such an important moment with him. Judy reluctantly replied "If I must...sir" as Franklin opened the package to reveal a colorful costume. Donning the costume and proclaiming himself Graviton, Franklin admitted that Judy was his favorite person there and that she had a lot to benefit from Graviton achieving his perceived destiny. Seeing the arriving Avengers in the distance, Judy was at first distracted but then feigned fascination with Graviton's power in an effort to stall him until the Avengers could enter the facility. One of the other Research City workers, Raquel, soon barged into the room to inform Graviton of the Avengers' presence and Graviton angrily grabbed Judy by the arm and accused her of knowing of the Avengers being there. Taking Judy hostage, Graviton fought the Avengers, launching most of them from the scene. When Vision resisted the attack by increasing his density, Graviton shoved Judy aside to focus on fighting Vision. Realizing she had to escape or risk punishment for not warning Graviton about the Avengers, Judy prepared to flee but she was stopped by the jealous Raquel, who knocked Judy unconscious to ensure Judy received her due. Judy remained unconscious at Raquel's feet as Graviton successfully defeated the Avengers.
(Avengers I#159) - Gloating to the
unconscious Judy
at how his power was a true fundamental force of nature, Graviton soon
learned from Raquel that Judy had been knocked out. Angry that Raquel
had hurt Judy, Graviton struck her and accused her of only wanting to
be near him for wealth and power, having snubbed him prior to him
gaining superhuman powers. Raquel insisted that she was loyal and
wanted to help Graviton, soon informing him that Judy's husband Joe was
leading a group of freed workers against Graviton. Joe led his group in
attacking Graviton, demanding he release Judy, but Graviton fought
back, reminding them that their lives were in his hands so long as he
continued levitating the city. Shortly after Graviton lifted the
rebellious workers into the air in preparation of hurling them over the
side of the floating city, Judy regained consciousness and swore to be
Graviton's if he promised not to kill Joe. Joe tried to talk Judy out
of her actions but Graviton ordered Joe to shut up and took Judy as his
own, hurling Joe, the rebellious workers and Raquel over the side of
the city, promising Judy that he would drift them all down to ground
level safely. Graviton then announced his plans to take care of the
Avengers and provide Judy with a raiment fit for a future queen of the
Earth before levitating Research City towards the east.
After Graviton
had Judy dressed up
as his queen and she pleaded with him to spare the Avengers' lives, he
arrived in New York City and gave an ultimatum, threatening to destroy
every major city beginning with New York if the United Nations did not
bow to his demands.
(Avengers I#159 / West Coast Avengers II#13 (fb)) -
The gloating Graviton soon noticed Judy looking worried and he
attempted to assuage her fears by insisting the UN would not defy him
but Judy remained fearful as the thunder god Thor arrived on the scene.
When Black Panther also arrived and helped free the Avengers, Graviton
fought them all but when he turned to gloat at Judy, he found her
missing. Noticing the crown and a trail of jewels on the ground despite
his desire for her to wear them, Graviton followed the trail to the
edge of Research City and assumed Judy had committed suicide by leaping
from the floating city.
(Avengers I#159) - Unleashing his full power against the Avengers, blaming them for distracting him long enough for Judy to take her own life, Graviton ultimately caused himself to become like a black hole, uncontrollably pulling chunks of Research City to himself until he was contained with a ball of debris. When the Avengers returned to their Mansion headquarters, they found Judy there with their butler, Edwin Jarvis. Jarvis revealed how he had borrowed an Avengers Sky-Sled in an attempt to aid against Graviton himself and how he had rescued the falling Judy in mid-air following her jump. Judy then proclaimed Jarvis to be wonderful as the Avengers commended their butler.
(Marvel Two-in-One I Annual#4 (fb) - BTS) - Judy was
placed in the care of Edwin Jarvis by the Avengers, who treated Judy as
a guest and granted her special security clearance to stay at Avengers
Mansion. As weeks passed, Jarvis became somewhat of a second father
figure to Judy, who was unaware that Graviton had been rendered
amnesiac with only the memory of Judy's face.
(Marvel Two-in-One I Annual#4) - Edwin Jarvis accompanied Judy to the Department of Motor Vehicles to pick up an American driver's license for Judy. While there, a local ruffian came running past them, causing Judy to stumble into Jarvis and angering Jarvis. Judy assured Jarvis she was okay and again called him wonderful, noting as they left how Jarvis had become somewhat of a second father to her after rescuing her from Graviton. Outside, the duo was accosted by a disguised Graviton, who forced Jarvis' feet to the ground as he absconded with Judy. The nearby Inhuman Black Bolt and blind sculptress Alicia Masters witnessed the event and exited their cab in an attempt to help. Overhearing that a woman had been grabbed, the also-nearby rock-skinned Thing joined in the pursuit, mistakenly thinking Black Bolt was attempting to kidnap Alicia and punching him. As Graviton used the distraction to escape with Judy, the Thing, Black Bolt and Alicia learned from Edwin Jarvis that Judy had been captured. The two superheroes rushed off to rescue Judy while Graviton hid in a nearby alleyway. When Judy fearfully muttered Graviton's name, he realized she must know him and admitted that he had been suffering from amnesia, his only memory that of Judy's face. Graviton's body soon flickered into immateriality and he insisted Judy help him understand what was happening but Judy refused, thinking Graviton was trying to cruelly trick her. When she tried to run away, however, the amnesiac Graviton forced her to stay by increasing the gravity where she stood. Judy's subsequent screaming drew the Thing and Black Bolt to her location. Following a brief battle, Graviton asked the heroes to leave him alone, claiming he didn't want to hurt anyone, and when Judy commented to the Thing that Graviton seemed to believe that statement, the Thing asked Judy to fill him in on Graviton's story.
As Judy recounted Graviton's
origins to the Thing, Graviton overheard and his memories were
restored. Judy then watched as Graviton transformed into a monstrous
creature due to his new status as a living black hole and when Graviton
asked for sanctuary with the Inhumans, Black Bolt refused. The angry
Graviton rampaged in response and Black Bolt protected Judy from
falling rubble. The fearful Judy then watched as the monstrous Graviton
stomped his way back into the city and the Thing quickly got Judy
towards the subway, suggesting she leave the scene for her own safety.
Taking the subway back to Avengers Mansion, Judy arrived to find it
empty, unaware that Edwin Jarvis was excusing himself from Alicia
Masters to go check on Judy. Just as Judy felt more lonely than she
ever had, Jarvis arrived back at Avengers Mansion and Judy thanked him
for checking on her. The two then turned on the television in hopes of
learning where Graviton had gotten to.
(Thor I#324 (fb) - BTS) - At some
point, Judy
reunited with her husband Joe and they got an apartment together in
Midtown, New York City. The two soon became expecting parents.
(Thor I#324) - After Graviton regained his original
form, he flew straight to Judy's apartment and found her in bed with
Joe. When Graviton accused Joe of hoping he had died in his monstrous
form, Joe explained that he instead felt sorry for Graviton following
the accident that had granted him powers and deranged his mind. Sitting
up in bed, Judy asked what Graviton wanted from them and Graviton
admitted his love for Judy, who asked what was so special about her.
She informed Graviton that she did not love him in return and reminded
him that she was not only married to Joe but also expecting his child.
When she mentioned that Graviton could hundreds of other women more
pretty than she was, Graviton replied that they were not her. Judy
responded by revealing that any man she loved would have to be kind,
gentle and honorable, things Graviton simply was not, and Graviton
claimed he could be those things but did not want to. Exiting the
apartment, Graviton admitted that he had wasted his time on Judy and
that caring for her had been a mistake. As he flew away, he reminded
Judy that he could have made her a queen. Judy then asked Joe if she
would ever be free of Graviton and his unwanted attentions, to which
Joe replied that he didn't think Graviton would be back following
Judy's courageous speech. When Judy admitted her speech was not out of
courage but fear for the lives of her family, Joe assured her
everything was fine and that he would call the police. Graviton soon
realized he had nowhere to stay as he thought about his love for Judy
and how she would never be hers now that she was expecting a child with
Joe. He settled on a nearby bar, where he commented to the bartender
how women could sure mess up a man's life. As he drank, Graviton
determined that Judy was right in that he could attract any woman he
wanted and he agreed with the bartender that an upscale clothing store
would be a good place to meet a beautiful woman.

It was never explained why Judy
did not immediately reunite with Joe following Graviton's first defeat.
Her appearance in Marvel Two-in-One I Annual#4 seems to suggest she was
single and Edwin Jarvis even continually refers to her as "Miss Judy"
but then she's next seen back with Joe in Thor I#234. Perhaps Judy
assumed Joe was dead after Graviton hurled him over the side of
Research City and because of that, stayed with the Avengers for a time
before Joe caught up to her and the two reunited. That makes logical
sense to me!
Judy's hair was mistakenly colored
red in the flashback seen in West Coast Avengers II#13. Additionally,
Joe Parks' hair color was black in Avengers I#158-159 but brown in Thor
I#234.
Joe Park's full first name of
Joseph was first revealed as "Joseph" in Official Marvel Index to the
Avengers II#3.
Judy sure seemed to like the color purple. I think she's wearing something purple-ish in every single appearance she's had (see images above)!
While Judy's citizenship was never explicitly stated, we do know she was working at a research facility in the Canadian Rockies in Avengers I#158-159 and Jarvis mentions getting her American driver's license in Marvel Two-in-One I Annual#4, suggesting her driver's license was from another country. Therefore, I'm leaning to believe that Judy Parks was Canadian.
Some sources (I'm looking at you,
Marvel Appendix Master List! --Sorry for the light-hearted joking,
Snood!) list Judy's first name as "Judith" but I could find no actual
comic that lists her name as such. Sure, Judy is often short for Judith
but we really have no confirmation that states that to be true for Judy
Parks...
