History:

(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "Secrets, Not Long Buried" - BTS) - Andrew was a young mutant boy who, alongside the young mutant Nicole, came under the tutelage of Dr. Taylor Prescott, a man who strongly believed in peaceful coexistence between humans and mutants.

(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "Secrets, Not Long Buried" (fb)) - One day, Dr. Prescott brought Andrew and Nicole to meet Charles Xavier and his recently formed X-Men. Prescott and Xavier shared the belief that humans and mutants could one day live together in harmony. Upon meeting Xavier and a young Cyclops, Prescott encouraged the children to demonstrate their mutant gifts. Andrew used his powers to energize a plant, causing it to glow with sparkling energy, after which Nicole used her abilities to create a crystalline patch of grass across the school floor. Unable to fully control her powers, Nicole's creation rapidly spread across the tiled floor and up the walls until Cyclops halted its growth with a quick optic blast. Startled by the sudden attack, Andrew and Nicole quickly rushed back toward Dr. Prescott. Charles Xavier then gently extended his hand toward Andrew, offering to help teach and guide the children.

(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "Secrets, Not Long Buried" (fb) - BTS) - Years later, both Andrew and Nicole had matured and significantly refined their mutant abilities. Upon learning Cyclops intended to visit their former mentor Dr. Prescott in order to investigate the mutant community he had established in Skull Mesa, the pair used their powers to create a small crystalline statue depicting themselves standing beside Prescott for Cyclops to present to him as a gift.

Comments: Created by Mark Onspaugh and AKOM Productions. (see Appearances list for full list of artists)

Andrew was an original character created for the show. According to statements found within the wonderful book X-Men The Art and Making of The Animated Series book, the characters Andrew and Nicole were named after real-life family members connected to the production staff. Andrew's name was taken from Andrew Houston, the son of supervising director Larry Houston, while Nicole was named after Nicole Brunner, daughter of artist Frank Brunner. The modelsheet for Andrew reveals he was originally meant to be called Jim.

Although never explicitly confirmed, it was strongly implied that Andrew and Nicole remained at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters in order to further develop and learn to control their mutant abilities.
