History:
(Marvel I#2 / 3 (fb) - BTS) - The immensely powerful demon Gathonagog
resided extradimensionally in a realm of chaos and madness. Latverian despot Doctor Doom sought to best his foe
Mister Fantastic by utilizing the black arts rather than science, arts
that Mr. Fantastic was not as a familiar with, and as part of this
plot, Doom captured the cosmically powerful Silver Surfer to utilize as
a host for the extradimensional demon Gathonagog.
(Marvel I#2 / 3) - Gloating about his plans to the
captured Silver Surfer, Doom summoned forth Gathonagog from its
extradimensional realm and bound the demon into his service. As
commanded, Gathonagog emerged from its realm and possessed the Silver
Surfer despite the Surfer's best efforts to resist. Dr. Doom then had
the Gathonagog-possessed Silver Surfer accompany him to the Baxter
Building to attack Mr. Fantastic. Upon learning that Mr. Fantastic was
not present and only the Thing was home, Doom ordered Gathonagog to
destroy the Thing. Gathonagog grumbled that he would do as commanded
since he was bound to Doom's will but insisted that he would bathe in
Doom's blood as soon as he was freed from Doom's will. Unfazed by
Gathonagog's threats, Doom reiterated his orders and Gathonagog did as
commanded, attacking the Thing and his fellow hero Spider-Man, who was
at the Baxter Building attempting acquire the Thing's cannoli to give
to his aunt for her birthday. Noticing Mr. Fantastic's Temporal
Displacement Collider nearby, Spider-Man asked the Thing to keep
Gathonagog busy while he worked on a plan to defeat the demon.
Theorizing that Gathonagog had to have a host body on the Earthly plane
due to his existence on a different harmonious frequency, Spider-Man
tweaked the Temporal Displacement Collider to radiate a temporal wave
that forced Gathonagog from the Silver Surfer's body. As the Surfer
screamed, the ghostly form of Gathonagog emerged from the Surfer's body
and expressed his fears of being lost to oblivion without a host body
to tie himself to. After Gathonagog dissipated on the Earthly plane,
the Silver Surfer thanked Thing and Spider-Man from freeing him from
Gathonagog's influence and all present soon realized that both Dr. Doom
and the cannoli were nowhere to be found. Back at his Latverian castle,
Dr. Doom monologued that while he may not have thwarted Mr. Fantastic,
summoning Gathonagog and implanting him into the Silver Surfer's body
was but a small task to gain such a cannoli.

Despite being published in January
2021, the story involving Gathonagog possessing the Silver Surfer
actually occurs earlier in the Marvel timeline, during the period where
Silver Surfer was exiled to Earth following his turning against
Galactus.
