History:
(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "X-Ternally Yours" - BTS) - The mysterious immortal known as the External resided upon another plane of existence, only manifesting upon Earth within the Louisiana bayous once every ten years during the sacred time of the tithe.
(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "X-Ternally Yours" (fb) - BTS) - Three hundred years ago, the External forged a covenant with the rival Guild of Assassins and Guild of Thieves. In exchange for their loyalty and a sacred tithe to be presented every ten years, the External used her mysterious powers to enhance the guilds' abilities, strength and protection from the forces of mortal men.
(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "X-Ternally Yours" (fb)) - After another ten years had passed, representatives of both guilds appeared before the External at the appointed hour of the tithe. Pleased that the Guild of Assassins had honored the covenant on time, the External increased their powers. However, when Bernard of the Guild of Thieves arrived too late with his offering, the immortal being scorned him for violating the sacred covenant. The External then seemingly obliterated Bernard with her powers before warning both guilds that should either fail her again, she would cast the offending guild into oblivion. Before departing once more, the External selected Belladonna Boudreaux of the Assassins Guild and Bobby LeBeau of the Thieves Guild as the next chosen representatives of the tithe.
(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "X-Ternally Yours" - BTS) - Ten years later, Belladonna sought revenge upon Gambit for abandoning her at the altar years earlier, preventing the union of both guilds through marriage. Manipulating events so the Guild of Thieves would fail the sacred tithe, Belladonna hoped the External would destroy the entire guild. To accomplish this, she captured Bobby LeBeau and forced Gambit to return home to release Bobby. Bobby LeBeau eventually delivered the false tithe to the sacred meeting place within the bayou while the X-Men, including Rogue, Jean Grey and Wolverine, accompanied the Guild of Thieves in search of Gambit. Moments later, Gambit arrived alongside Belladonna and members of the Guild of Assassins, much to Rogue's distress. Realizing Belladonna had provided the Thieves Guild with a false tithe, Gambit warned his guild moments before the External's arrival. Enraged, Belladonna punished Gambit, only for Rogue to intervene, triggering a full-out battle between the Assassins Guild, the Thieves Guild and the X-Men.
(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "X-Ternally Yours") - With ten years having passed since her previous manifestation, the External appeared once more amidst the conflict. Instantly recognizing the tithe before her as fraudulent, the immortal summoned the chosen representatives of both guilds and declared that the Guild of Thieves had dishonored the covenant. Preparing to destroy the entire guild, the External was confronted by Rogue, who attempted to explain that the Thieves had been deceived by Belladonna. Refusing to listen, the External effortlessly blasted Rogue aside while Wolverine and Jean Grey were similarly defeated when they attempted to intervene.
Before the External could pass judgment, however, Jean Grey used her telepathic powers to reveal the truth of Belladonna's deception directly into the immortal's mind. Furious that the sacred tithe had been endangered through treachery, the External suspended Belladonna into the air. Declaring the Guild of Assassins to be her enemy, the External offered the Thieves the opportunity to pass sentence. Gambit asked the External to spare Belladonna's life but strip her of the mystical abilities previously granted to her. the External granted the wish after which she withdrew from the earthly plane once more.

The External was an original character created for the show but was loosely based upon Candra of the Externals. Other members of the Externals, including Gideon and Saul, received a brief appearance in X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "Sanctuary - Part II" (October 28, 1995).
When, in 2015's Secret Wars, the Multiverse was destroyed following the incursions of planets it appeared as if Reality-92131 was drafted onto Battleworld as the Westchester domain. However, this has since been debunked. As such the reality seen in the two volumes of X-Men '92 (2015 and 2016-2017) now have their own reality-designation of Earth-15730. The X-Men '92: House of XCII (2022) series was inspired by both the animated series and Hickman's House of X run but is its own separate reality. The limited series X-Men '97 (2024), however, is Reality-92131 and bridges the gap between the original X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon and the new X-Men '97: The Animated Series.
