History:
(Actual Romances I#1/3 (fb) - BTS) - Marcel Pierre Mousseux D'Ermonville was born to a prestigious French-Canadian family in Quebec. His family arranged with the Le Sancy family to marry him off to their firstborn, Marie Le Sancy. Marcel met Marie when she was a child and considered her skinny and homely. Marcel grew to become a great outdoorsman but when his family insisted he honor the arrangement to marry Marie Le Sancy he refused and fled to northern Quebec, adopting the alias of "Pierre Boum" and working out of Mama Yvette's inn in Broussacville.
(Actual Romances I#1/3) - Marie Le Sancy arrived at the inn under the alias "Marie Duval" as she similarly wished to avoid marrying Marcel. "Pierre" introduced himself to Marie and as she wanted to go hunting, he offered to serve as her guide. Marie was instantly taken with Marcel's good looks.
"Pierre" invited Marie out the next morning to hunt, bringing along his dog Canute. They rode on horseback along a game trail then set a camp. Marie observed how at ease "Pierre" was in the wild and he opined that in the wild "a man can stretch his soul and find the answer to his problems! Here things are simple and good and clean." When a bear wandered into their campsite, "Pierre" and Canute fought off the animal. When the bear drew too near, "Pierre" fired his rifle at it, killing it, but with its dying breath the bear slashed his shoulder.
Despite his wound, "Pierre" was only worried for Marie. They kissed, but then Marcel realized he had to admit his true identity and his arranged marriage. He revealed his true name to Marie and explained why he'd come to north. Marcel insisted that instead of marrying "Marie Le Sancy" he would marry Marie Duval; rather than reveal her identity, Marie told him he neeed to officially break off his marriage to Marie Le Sancy first and he agreed.
Marcel went to Quebec City and put on his best suit of clothes, then looked up Monsieur Le Sancy. When Marie entered the room, he suddenly realized who she was and she informed him she too was trying to run away from a marriage she didn't want. Marcel objected he had no idea who she was but Marie refused to speak further and fled the room.
Marcel went back to Broussacville and resumed his identity as Pierre Boum. When Marie returned to the inn she was surprised to see him there; by pretending Pierre was his true self, Marcel reminded Marie how much she'd come to love him and they embraced in a kiss.

CLARIFICATIONS:
Marcel D'Ermonville should not be confused with:

Canute was Marcel D'Ermonville's hunting dog. In his guise as "Pierre Baum," Marcel would bring Canute along with him when he went hunting. When a bear threatened Marie Le Sancy, Marcel used Canute to help drive off the bear.
--Actual Romances I#1/3

Before Marie was born, her father pledged her to marry the firstborn son of the D'Ermonville family, a tradition among French-Canadians. Her mother died at some point and her father raised her to be an independent woman, accompanying him on his hunting trips. When Marie came of age to be married to Marcel D'Ermonville she refused to honor the pledge and fled to northern Quebec, stopping in Broussacville, where she found board at Mama Yvette's inn, giving her name as "Marie Duval." Marie went hunting with the guide "Pierre Boum," who saved her from a bear, but then she learned he was really Marcel D'Ermonville and was likewise trying to avoid marriage. When Marie went back to her father and he introduced her to Marcel she refused to marry him, but when she returned to Mama Yvette's inn she found Marcel was there, once again in his "Pierre Boum" identity; she embraced him.
--Actual Romances I#1/3

Monsieur Le Sancy was Marie's father. Mr. Le Sancy made a pledge with the D'Ermonville family that their firstborn children would marry, a pledge he made before Marie was born. Mr. Le Sancy's wife died at some point and he raised Marie to be an independent woman, bringing her along with him on hunting trips. When Marie came of age to marry the D'Ermonville's son Marcel, Marie refused to honor the pledge and fled to northern Quebec in defiance of her father. Although Marie fell in love with Marcel after meeing him in his assumed guise as Pierre Boum, she still refused to marry Marcel when her father arranged a meeting between them; she subsequently reconciled with Marcel.
--Actual Romances I#1/3

Mama Yvette was an innkeeper in Broussacville in northern Quebec. Marcel D'Ermonville stayed there as a hunting guide under his alias Pierre Boum; Marie Le Sancy similarly wound up at Yvette's inn under her alias Marie Duval. Mama Yvette witnessed the two come together in love, although she remained ignorant of their true identities.
